Bruno thinks 307 year old Michael Carrick is a better midfielder than Fred

Okay. Maybe not quite. But he plainly thinks Fred is a useless, shit-munching clogger.
"I was watching in training and Carrick was playing because we had players missing and he didn’t miss a pass," Fernandes told the UTD podcast.

"It’s unbelievable how fresh and sharp he is doing the exercises with us, and I was talking with Fred and I was going to say to him, ‘Hey, watch him playing and do the same!’ but I thought it was unfair and so I didn’t say it!"

Not missing passes? Maybe Bruno should take the same advice this season?

Thought it would be unfair to say to him so better to say it to the press and let them tell him Bruno said it

"I thought it was unfair to say unless it was in a really public setting so I didn't say it."

Also I love Bruno and Carrick would still pass rings around Fred if they were playing in opposite midfields.

This quote is from ages ago, and he wasn’t being harsh on Fred, just saying how impressed he was with Carrick.

I know it's a thing on this forum to say whenever the topic of any ex United player comes up "what I would do to have a player like him now!!1"

but yeah, I do think Carrick would be incredibly useful for your side. Had the ability to help the side control the ball, pretty defensively savvy, could move the ball vertically and had those excellent probing through balls.

It's consistent with his on-field decision making abilities.

My only problem with Fred is he isn't smart enough to know when to intentionally foul a player to stop a break.

If he took his own advice, he might get a little more than token minutes for Portugal

Kinda funny but not totally surprising. Scholes would probably look superb in training as well despite being chubby and old, Carrick looks in good shape. You don't lose that quality to play a pass, especially in a training setting. Maybe it says something about our intensity though..

This isn't just on him its on the coaching. It's a basic thing that should have been drilled into this group of players ages ago. Fair too nice, feck all dirt.
True. If he had moved to City instead of United, Pep would have drilled it into him by the first game or he'd be long gone.

It is a bit ironic to come from Bruno, but just to play devil's advocate, their roles are very different. Fred's passing should be simple and easy to manage, Bruno's an awful passer at times, but his are more complicated, key passes that he's trying to make. Still, he'd have been better off just keeping his mouth shut.

Also needs to be the stated that some of the passes/assists Bruno pulls off are from another planet. Just some of his passing to Ronaldo this season has been Scholes level.

We don't ever do intentional fouling because Ole said he doesn't like it.

It's ironic since he's got the most famous intentional foul/red card going, but he said himself he doesn't like his players to do it. So many times we could have stopped a goal like City/Liverpool do with a well timed early foul.

I really hope our next manager is not so naive.

So he thought it was cruel to say that to Fred in private, but it’s fine to say it during an interview that millions of people can read? :houllier:

Fred will never be technically on the same planet as Carrick. Unpopular opinion but Carrick is one of the best midfielders we've had in modern times.

When we were dominating the league he was the only consistent in our midfield.

I mean, it’s a bit rich coming from someone who doesnt exactly top the pass completion rates himself.

This is from an interview he did more than a year ago.

EDIT But it seems to have resurfaced now for some reason.

Carrick to pick himself for tonight?

That would presumably make him an "interim caretaker player manager"?

People wanted to have him as captain. Except for Ronaldo, we don't have any decent captain.

Bruno should probably take a look at Carrick and learn himself.

It’s not only because we revere ex United players. But standards have dropped so so much at United that putting in a first teamer from yesteryear’s would dramatically elevate the team. They were less than the best in a world beating side. Some of the current players are average in an average team.

So yes, Carrick, Fletcher, O Shea, Neville, Butt, Nani, Berg, would walk into this team and be a level higher let alone the true top level players like Scholes or Rooney
