I actually think it could be Fernandes can't be 1 of the 3 behind or has to sit very deep (In a way we haven't seen from him so far), I think based on what I've seen it needs to be 3 from A and 3 from B (below)

A) Cavani, Ronaldo, Martial, Greenwood, Rashford, Sancho, Fernandes & Pogba
B) Fred, Matic, DVDB & Mctominay

We are clearly lacking in the players I have categorized under B
Sure, I gave Bruno for granted as a starter there. That said, even if he were Deco, you can't get away with three forwards contributing very little to ball recovery. You end up on the backfoot far too much.

Having said what I said I do feel that we could compensate if we had the right back 7 behind the 4 where the full backs don't have attacking onus but I would rather have that output I think, difficult one, be interesting to see who comes in and their style of play.

Who could replace him? With the narrative here seems like any high work rate striker would be an upgrade
There is a lack of great strikers atm. I think Tevez was more suited to Juve than Ronnie.

Many people here are Ronaldo fans not United fans. Like I said in a previous post 8 years ago there were some Kagawa fans that defended him no matter what. It's the same phenomenon but a bigger fan base (because Ronaldo admittedly was one of the best player in the world).

Do these people really think that a club such as Manchester United build a team around a 37 year old??? man have some pride in the club, this club should not be desperate. He is not even super good at the moment, 4 goals in the PL is not super good and he was absolutely destroyed against Liverpool and City.

People keep saying he needs other players do his hard duties for him, WHY? what makes him let others do that? when he scores 4 goals in the PL. Back at Real Madrid he scores 50~60 goals a season, so he might have a point to say the others should do the work for him. Why should United abandon a formation/system and change everything just to suit him when he scores 4 goals in the PL?? Even if you add the Cl goals which is 9, it is good but still not enough to change everything for him.

He is now in a level where he himself should adapt to the team but if his ego does not allow that then the next managers first job is to bench him.

All the talk about pressing just distracts from the fact he brings so many other problems. It's an issue but not really an insurmountable one, the likes of Messi, Mbappe, Lukaku, Kane don't work spectacularly hard but their teams accept that knowing what they'll get offensively to compensate. The difference is they don't bring a host of structural issues with them while offering close to nothing in possession.

Play Ronaldo up front and he doesn't really link play with his back to goal or make many unselfish runs to drag defenders around and create space for others ala Cavani. He'll also constantly drop deep/wide left to get touches of the ball without adding anything of value in the process so he ends up just standing on the toes of more capable players and leaves no one occupying defenders. This was obvious vs Watford when he was pretty much playing LW to the point Rashford was hooked for Martial at half time so someone could actually play CF. Play Ronaldo on the left and he doesn't offer much creativity, can't beat his man with any sort of regularity and also drifts centrally constantly leaving the wing unoccupied. He'd also force the team to play 3 midfielders in order to mask his lack of defensive work rate.

You could argue all these accommodations would be worth it if he was anywhere close to being the goal scorer he once was but that's not the case anymore. He has 1 goal in his last 7 in the league and that too vs a team whose manager has now been sacked. All things considered he's essentially a negative in every game he doesn't score in, and since he isn't scoring anywhere close to a goal a game that is a massive problem and something the next coach will be burdened with thanks to the club's typical short sightedness.
Great post, it's very true.

It's not just pressing, pressing is just part of a general minimalism from general play. Ronaldo has gone from being a showboater and overplaying to doing nothing except scoring. It's been a gradual transformation - at 23 maybe it was 60-40 general play vs production - then 28 it was 40-60 - then 33 it was 25-75. Now it's like 10-90 in favour in that balance. And he's nearly 37, what do you think he'll be like at 38/39 if the club keep him? It's only going one direction.

Pathetic post, same thing over and over.

Personally not a Ronaldo fan, and as a United supporter have always preferred Messi. But you, Bebe and others may as well be stating he's the worst player to ever come to United.

The issue through and through has been Ole and his coaching staff.

Why did he walk away to the dressing room so quick? Pissed at getting subbed or something? Great goal he scored. Didn’t even look up for it.

The absolute desire of this guy to not play in the EL is something to behold.

Since he’s come back, correct me if I’m wrong. Every game we’ve won or drawn has been with him getting a decisive goal.

Plays better when he allows himself to move to the wing like in the 2nd goal.

You can't help but love this man, his standards are on a different level to everyone and he just drags them up with him.

His reading of the game and anticipation of situations is incredible, so glad we signed him, if we didn't we'd be up shit creek without a paddle right now considering everything else that's happened

Incredible that he's dragged this garbage team into the CL knockout rounds
Hopefully we sort ourselves out by then, we might actually challenge with the players in our squad. Just need a competent coaching staff to make it work.

Considering how badly we've been outplayed in almost every game, he did decent to get 4 goals.

The essay writers telling people how bad Ronaldo is must feel really stupid every week being proved wrong to then come back writing more essays to be proved wrong again

What a problem he is. I hope we can sign more problems like Ronaldo.

Great player and I'm enjoying every minute of his second spell here.

Another decisive goal, another sublime finish and important win.

He is only 1 goal away from scoring his 800th.

Without him we'd be playing in the Europa League again, i'm convinced of that. Worked hard and contributed yet another champions league goal.

10 goals and 2 assists in 14 games in a side that are an absolute shitshow at 36 years of age. All of them bar 1 I think important.

We are not even just a shit show defensively, we barely create any chances.

I have to say that's an underrated opinion. ;)
