People seem to maybe have not noticed but we have topped the group and will be seeded in the last 16. Atalanta blew a lead again against Young Boys.

Sure the point has been made before but what the he'll is our technical director doing on the bench in a tracksuit. We are 'have a go' fc

Presume that means we will avoid any fellow English teams and group winners

He didn’t make any motion when Sancho missed his chance at 0-0 either…Bruno was not a happy man being benched
Tough for him. Bruno needs to fall in line if he is gonna continue being player here. We all know his quality, but can you imagine Klopp or Guardiola putting up with his shennanigans ? This is one of the main things that's been missing. These players don't know fear, they don't see any repercussions for their actions and unfortunately once they get that idea, standards start falling down.

Deepthroating information to Howard Nurse.

I completely agree. Nobody should be guaranteed a starting spot. This squad is too good for that.

the last twenty minutes, we played better than at any time this season. Was it just a confidence thing?? Certainly it coincided with Rashford and Bruno being on the pitch and picking up the tempo. Sancho looked really good on the RIGHT wing, even without the goal. But that goal was all about moving the ball at pace. They need to build on that euphoria and carry on....ever upwards. And no. Carrick is not at the wheel. We still need a manager. I still have reservations about Poch, but , it looks like he will be the one.

I dont care how we played, the 3 points was badly needed, especially with what has gone on and with it taking us to the knockout stages. We have secured 1st thanks to Young Boys getting a point. Carrick will not be here forever, maybe he has one or two games left, we need to grind until we can get a proper manager to steer us for the rest of the season. Shout out to Sancho, 90 mins does wonders and also De Gea, kept us in the game and we would not be here celebrating us going through if he didn't do a few worldies.

Wasn't a massive difference but you could tell they'd worked on a few elements. Sometimes a change in manager gets a new focus instilled.

Was very much a Jose sit tight for 60 then try and win it though.

That first half, the transition with Fred and Mctom is so slow. The extra touches they take is unforgivable, sloppy passes - it was awful. Sancho looked lively even in the first half but it was so slow it just didn’t get to him

second half a great improvement, notably when Bruno and Rashers came on. The flow was much better.

Same old problems at the back. AWB was poor, Lindelof done good in the end. De Gea great (bar rooted to his line).

massive win though. Takes big pressure off

Just watched it now. Can see it being one of those performances that not everyone will appreciate. It wasn’t gun hoe or exciting but to be honest I was pretty impressed with the defensive shape and work of the team.

Managed to get Martial and Ronaldo working in a press which is pretty impressive. Wasn’t an amazing press but we looked organised had a structure and like people actually knew what they had to do.

Workrate seemed to increase as well. Thats not the football I want to see every week but it was a positive step in the right direction and hopefully we can get a bit slicker with the passing. Villareal are a good solid team so great result.
Just gotta ask where has that been all season.

Also props to Carrick for dropping/resting Bruno. Came on kept it simple and wasn’t as loose and sloppy or masquerading as a striker. Needs to play like he did in that cameo more often. Didn’t look happy though when Jadon scored. Basically turned away from it with no emotion at all.

Yes there can be no other explanation
Doesn't make sense unless Ole was very stubborn and it was his way only. The othervyou don't want to think about that up until now Carrick has just been going through the motions

He’s being used as a coach too because of COVID regulations. He wouldn’t be able to get near the dressing room or other coaching staff otherwise on matchdays.

Look at me, Mum. I’m on Redcafe. Soccer, you know? Football forum. They call it ‘the Caf’. It’s mostly old people. Some even go to matches, in stadiums. Like Old Rockford. So cool,

But most of Us watch on illegal streams that keep freezing. My favourite thing is winding up the ‘true Reds’. SAF was a God (he used manage us ‘back in the day’). You say ‘siiiiiiiiuuuuu’ when CR7 scores. You say ‘Matic is too slow’, that always sounds good. You say ‘Dippers’ instead of Liverpool. We hate them. And ‘get in’ when we score. What fun!

Sancho is a special talent, that's why we needed to integrate him to the team as soon as possible. Ole being overly cautious playing him was one of his downfall.

Wasn't there a strong vibe here of.....Mourinho? 70 minutes of risk-averse carefulness, and then capitalising on an opposing team mistake at 80 minutes?

Obviously, I'll take that after the recent horrors. But I hope it's not going to become the template. It does seem to make sense to focus first on regaining some sort of defensive stability here.

Terrific result though - practically sees us through to the second round. Or even mathematically? Not done my homework here.
Erm..we needed a result and Carrick is only the interim interim manager. Let's not worry about templates etc right now. Just hope we can get back on track.

It's weird that people are critically analysing it.

You've got idiots talking before the game with platforms like Scholes on BT and Goldbridge on his embarrassing stream saying the whole coaching team should have gone on Sunday - yep definitely lads, just let Ronaldo run the team? It just doesn't happen until a new manager is in, and you've got people actually seriously regurgitating that view. Seriously low IQ levels.

We all know Carrick isn't getting the job. Ole had been a manager before he was appointed as the interim. It's not even a conversation that requires any brain usage or breath.

Fair play to the guy for setting us up in a traditional Fergie "professional away European night" setup. Simple and effective, and maybe another few days of perfecting that approach to avoid a spanking at Stamford Bridge.

Hargreaves
I thought it was, but then I thought they called him Nigel.

Does he go down in the category of Twat, being the opposite of Legend ?

Owen Hargreaves has claimed Manchester United put his career on the line by administering the wrong treatment for his chronic injury problem.

Owen Hargreaves is convinced he has woken from his football nightmare – and ready to help Manchester City achieve their own sweet dreams
Then one game at City, injured and the end of his career.

We looked better cause Villarreal stopped pressing us high and sat back...they did that cause Rashford was our first real threat in behind. They handed over momentum cause we finally had an outlet and that allowed us into the game and gave our lads time to get passes away and build. Villarreal choked us for 70 minutes...a better team would have just kept the ball from us for 90

DDG made a couple of saves...water is wet. He's paid a shit ton of money to do that as it's his job. Not sure why everyone gets so worked up over it. We have to expect away from home to give up a few shots and need the keeper to make early saves to keep the game level.

This is one of our major problems. Sancho made several runs but Fred and Mct were just so slow. Not seeing the quick passes and keeping the tempo high. Too many touches, the opponent recovers and the quick counter is gone. Bernardo, Gundo etc are great at this. Fred has to go.

DVB was anonymous. Not sure why the caf has the fascination with him. Maybe he can replace Fred and we can have him and Bruno to keep the tempo in midfield high.

DDG was our best player. Glad Bruno was rested, he needed a break. Lindeloff did well. Telles was better than Shaw.

Happy to enjoy a win again (and not in the "will this keep Ole in the job?" way).

Very excited to see what a proper manager will do with this squad.

Saving energy and being defensive until the last 20 minutes. Lucky not to go behind, but this looked like a strategy that worked with attacking subs coming on later in the game. Nice one Carrick.

The problem I have with McFred is they either drop too deep or they are reluctant to play through the lines or BOTH. They're at times too safe in their distribution. So you have Fred sitting deep, McTominay sitting deep and this gaping hole ahead of them which forces Bruno to come deep. You then have this chasm the size of Rhode Island between our mids and forwards.

Why are our players so reluctant to play forward passes. Only Bruno is someone you can count on doing that but with him you get are liable to get Hollywood specials instead of the safer option, ceding possession.

Play Matic until his legs fall off but he's our only real midfielder that can sit deep and will provide adequate cover for our defense while allowing one of Fred or McTominay freedom to advance further up the pitch.
We desperately need a ball playing DM.

Only watched the highlights, but looked like DDG kept us in the game and it took them gifting us a goal to take the lead.

Either way a good result, particularly considering we currently don't have a manager. Nice to see Sancho get off the mark at last as well.

Im pretty sure if we lose on December 8th and Villareal win then they will go top on goal difference or am I missing something?
