So happy for the boy. Selfish Greenwood in the mud for sure. Greenwood will struggle to get back in this team with Sancho on this form

Sancho is a proper baller who gets his head up unlike both Rashford and Greenwood. The confidence this will give him that goal will hopefully give him the momentum to go on to have a great season.

take a bow son!

We should somehow (give them Amad + Elanga for the rest of the season if necessary) get Swansea to return Ethan Laird midway in his loan in January. He has a higher ceiling than Hakimi and is EXACTLY what Sancho at RW needs in a RB.

He needs a better foil than AWB. I would like Carrick to try Dalot there. Carrick has nothing to lose. AWB has been piss poor and the partnership is not working with any winger we put there. Sancho and Dalot would work quite well, especially with teams who like sitting back

The problem is Dalot should no longer be at this club. He’s a defensive calamity and doesn’t offer much more in attack. Certainly not worth the trade-off especially when our confidence is at an all-time low.

As a winger yes, but as a player, I don't think so. Greenwood has clearly come on leaps and bounds. As a forward, he is already a fantastic player. However, he's not a winger, and especially due to how static our midfield 2 can be, that is what we need. He doesn't have the ability to consistently beat his man or create space for himself to drive the ball to the box. He's not very inventive. He's creative for a forward, but not for a winger. It's pretty clear his future is as a 9 or a second striker; in some systems maybe even as an inside forward, but not a winger expected to support the team in possession or creatively.

Sancho is a winger. He's the creative force we need that can work possession and chances. Unfortunately, I don't actually believe Ole knows how to get wingers into favorable positions. If you watch most teams, their team, not just the individual, creates the avenues and platform for the wingers to cause havoc. At United with Ole, the only way to get favorable possession is moving centrally, which is a far too congested space to spark the type of magic we expect from wingers. Our fans talk so much about how the players that we have don't get enough of the ball and hence blame them instead; I feel that the attackers ( and moreso the wide players) have to fight way harder on a game to game basis to get involved in games due to how we were structured. Rashford was the only one under Ole to provide consistent performances; that was due to his amazing off runs of the ball more than anything else. If not, our wingers are usually trapped having to fend off 2 to 3 opposition players every game.
Agree a lot with what you said except that 1st point. 2 years on, Greenwood's still a limited player that can become world class with the right attitude and coaching. For now, I think he’s overhyped because he hasn’t really kicked on outside of his two-footedness and finishing. Hold-up play, runs, creativity, defensive awareness and work-rates are still sorely lacking.

But I am definitely in a small minority here. I think someone like Poch will either make or break him. There will be no more excuses and it will down to Greenwood's questionable attitude (based on what our players and coaches have said about him).

Good game by Sancho today - the kind of performances I was expecting when we signed him.

Tried to make things happen when nothing was happening. Brilliant run and movement for the one v one chance - and got a deserved goal at the end of the game. Has to be starting regularly

Played really well despite Bissaka doing everything he can to feck it up. Even stood with the Villareal LB and defended against Sancho's dribble at one point.

After he scored you could see him have that strut in his step, was really confident after that. Brilliant player, Sancho is a notoriously slow starter so people just need to have a bit of patience with him.

Good to see him showing glimpses of what he can do. Even though he doesn't have similar style, that performance was Nani esque winger performance from the right, ten years after.

Barely saw any of the game cause my internet was crap but doesn't surprise me that the first time he's living up to expectations is in a European game. Hopefully he can take the confidence in to the league but regardless I'd want him starting against Young Boys.

Someone like pochettino will get the best out of him as he likes his full backs to bomb forward and plays the front 3 narrow to create space… sancho is at his best when his full back overlaps as we seen at Dortmund where his link up with Hakimi was quality.

Sancho's looked much sharper last couple of games, the link-up play is so much better than anyone else in the team is capable of. Hopefully he can get a proper run of games in the team now

Came alive when Bruno came on and alive he was. He missed that chance but you could see it didnt affect him, he went on and on and was positive and energetic. Awarded himself with a great goal. Finally he's gotten it and now he can play more relaxed. Well in Jadon, well in.

The kid is quality, patience and a proper manager that can sort the team, and we have a gem here. Glad to see him score that goal, first of many I hope.

Good game capped off with goal.

happy for him.

critics have to remember he's still 21yrs old and been at the club for only a few months.

I hope we abandon any ideas of 3-5-2 and continue to give Sancho time to get used to being in the squad.

Well, Greenwood is still the first attacker off the bench for me assuming Cavani is unavailable.

Martial and Pogba can't be arsed and while I like Lingard, if he's set on leaving there's no point playing him when others are fit.

Very quiet at the start of the match, to the extent that when he got on the ball after about 20 minutes I was surprised as I'd forgotten he was on the pitch. Quite good after that though, so hopefully that can continue.
I mean that's a team issue. We barely had the ball inside 20 minutes and just sat off them closing up space. It was obviously a tactical decision to grow into the game.

Sancho can't go getting on the ball, it's up to the team to give it to him. When they did though, he was excellent all night.

Car crash of a post. Back up some of those points because you’ve pulled most of it out your backside!

Oh, now I get the Sancho hype!

Would love to see a game with Rashford, Greenwood and Sancho up front.

That was the plan...fluid...interchanging...combinations with Bruno. Solksjaer spoke about it and what he envisaged in his front 3 once he balanced out the right hand side. He never had the bottle to persist with it though.

You could visibly see the confidence flooding back into him when he had that burst into the box last night and nearly scored. No surprise to see him bury that second chance. Hopefully he can keep some form for a while now.

What a player, What I enjoyed is when we are under pressure and the ball goes to him, he just passes it to Donny and gets the ball back because he shows for a pass then he is into space driving.

It is also clear he is very skilful.

What a great team goal his was, and a class finish too. Looked like it meant a lot for him to get that first goal.

Give him a run on the right.

I know he didn’t set the world alight early doors but part of that is on the stop start nature of his season. Get him playing regularly.

I was listening to TalkSPORT on a long drive on Sunday (I know) and they were going on about how bad the recruitment has been because United clearly didn’t do enough back ground checks on him if he isn’t putting in effort etc.

I’m sure the same people today are saying he’s quality and been under used by United this season and that’s why we’ve been shit. This is more of a rant about shite like TalkSPORT, but he’s clearly quality.

His best game for us, little surprise that he plays well when he's got technical players around him in Fred playing higher up the pitch, VDB and Martial, even if the latter two were poor.

I was a little concerned to see some of the team not celebrating his first goal with him though.

Buzzing for him that he got his first goal. Think he’s more generally starting to look the part now too, some of those faints and the dribbling skills are much needed. I also thought that him and VDB struck up a good relationship at times and I’d love to see that continue. In line with the team Carrick selected last night I’d love to see us try.

in attacking

————Ronaldo————Greenwood—————
Bruno———Fred————--VDB————-Sancho

in defensive shape:

Greenwood———Ronaldo———Sancho
——————————Bruno————————
—————Fred————————-VDB———

I think with the right coaching that has potential to be brilliant. It’s also easily transferable with our other attacking options and Rashford can easily step in for Ronaldo/Greenwood. Ironically Sancho is the man that allows that puzzle to work as he’s a proper wide player who is more capable of playing wide in a 4-4-2. Bruno looks a little lost on the left in the shape above but I don’t think he would be bad there with the right level of focus and his poor ball turnovers would be less damaging there. It’s a role Pogba could also play perfectly I imagine.

Just want to add, if you are coming into this thread and using a good Sancho performance as a reason to hate on Greenwood you are supporting the wrong fecking club. He’s been our bright star attacker this season and will have a massive role to play for us if we want to be successful, like our other players he simply needs the platform and it would be nice if he actually had the support of his own fans too! I suspect if he was available last night he would have played in place of Martial anyway.

Saying that Greenwood should not play on the wing is not hating on him. It is a fact that Greenwood offers very little on the wing, except when he comes inside to score. He should finally start in a CF positionand leave the wing to Sancho.
