You really think PSG don't have the money to pay Zidane whatever he wants? Money is irrelevant to them. They just turned down a 200 million transfer for Mbappe just so they can show Madrid the middle finger. State clubs like City and PSG don't care about money.
Agree but they prob don't want to pay Poch off to get Zidane.

Why are we still pretending most clubs pay up their managers contracts when they leave? Most clubs just continue to pay the old manager until they get a job elsewhere.

Qatar pull $60b worth of oil out of the ground each year. If they want Zidane, they can sack Poch tomorrow and bring him in without noticing any more than you or I would notice rounding up the price of a can of Coke to the nearest Euro.

Yeah, I hear ya. But that doesn't mean it's not what Ed is trying to do, thinking he can get them to lower the 10m pay off. Because let's face it, the same is true. What's 10m when you have 60b?

It''s weird because I kinda want Poch.

So theoretically I suppose I want City to hammer PSG as it probably makes it easier for us to get Poch.

But if Poch gets hammered by City then I'm gonna be less keen on Poch.

The football played by PSG has very little resemblance to Poch's preferred style. He's a bad fit there.

They want Zidane. But if it becomes a posturing exercise, I can imagine them playing hard ball with Poch just to spite us. Similar to how the Mbappe thing played out.

Reckon the only thing PSG don't want here is to look weak and like their manager quit on them to join another, bigger club. They don't give a feck about money.

Woodward probably thinks they will waive the 10 million since they want him gone anyway. Otherwise they'd have to pay him off. They have a much better chance of winning the UCL with Zidane in charge which is all they actually care about.

Tbh he's probably right.

With Messi, Mbappe and Neymar and still winning most games by 1 goal diff in the French League. Is Poch really the right manager?

SAF having no input on the managerial successor is good.

Really hope we go all out for Ten Hag in the summer.

The current coaches should've been sacked along with Ole to be fair...
What was the fecking point of getting rid of Ole if we kept the morons under him? Carrick and McKenna have now been part of 2 failed regimes and the club want to keep them?!

Firstly, why are you calling Carrick a moron? He’s been a great servant to the club and is clearly not a moron

Secondly, we haven’t appointed a successor yet so it makes no sense to replace them until we do. Unless you think we should hire two new people now, then fire them and hire two more once the new guy starts?

I thought so as well but hold on, might not be such a bad idea after all. Obviously strip them of influence and descisonmaking but it won't be the worst idea to have the new guy have a clue of the on and off the pitch team dynamics before his arrival. They can be dismissed at the end of the season once the new guy feels familiar enough.

Pochettino (or any other manager) should have a clean slate. They should not keep the backroom staff for info sharing purposes only, unless he wants to.

It's the same old discussion on here really.

We have had Moyes, LVG, Mourinho and OGS and all have failed to bring back the successes of the past.

Were they all numpties?

Or are we not setup, as a club, for success at the elite level?

??

[Citation Needed]. First I'm hearing of this. Why would anyone accept that given there are a bunch of incentives for performance on top of the base pay that they won't be getting?

"sources have told ESPN, football director John Murtough and technical director Darren Fletcher given the responsibility of identifying and assessing candidates to replace the sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer".

First big test and all that.

Murtough was the one responsible for getting Jose after LvG, so it doesn't exactly inspire confidence in his abilities. Anything else noteworthy he did for us?

Please, not Poch.

Only Ten Hag, in the summer.
I agree with this. Ten Hag gives me the same vibes as Klopp / Nagelsmann. Not that the play styles are similar - just one of those managers that's ready to make the step up to a big club and achieve great things.

Having a competent caretaker is the big question mark. We need to get someone of the same mould as Ten Hag to ease the transition. Someone with a foundation in positional play preferably and not just a big name like Blanc.

Murtough didn't have anything to do with appointing Jose, unless you can provide evidence.

A bit of both. Of all the 4 however Ole was the most deserving of the sack. We gave him more time and backing than any manager and with genuine quality players not like the scrubs we bought LVG. We also overhauled our Sports Science Department, Academy Department and even hired a DOF/Technical Director under his tenure. The level of stock we invested in Ole doesn't make the higher ups(despite them being money grabbing cnuts) to blame as much as the past because we genuinely gave him a fighting chance but he still fell short

I'm not really sure. He has been around with the club since the Moyes days and I know he did some player development work (signed Hannibal etc.) and overhauled our scouting system in 2017 (https://trainingground.guru/articles/man-utd-scouts-summoned-for-meeting-after-huge-overhaul)

I don't know if he was influential enough by 2016 to be making decisions about coaches.
He put in place a scouting network which is described by the guys at TGG (link you've provided) as being very impressing as far as the personnel that have been brought in to make up the scouting network, which has been put into divisions domestically/Europe/world with figure heads at the top. He's also created a data science department from scratch, which we never had, shockingly for me.

And after he'd completed the bulk of the work when it comes to modernising us in 2017, he worked at the club to bridge the gap between the reserves and first team for the younger players. And he's got a history of doing that going back to his Everton days where he's credited with helping Wayne Rooney, Jack Rodwell etc come through to the first team and also modernising Everton's, Finch Farm.

The issue with a number of our fans from my observation is that they get brainwashed by certain YouTube channels, who look to profit upon our misery and have zero knowledge about the changes that have taken place. Which in turn adds to the paranoia among certain fans who end up coming on to the forum and parrot what they've heard from the likes of Mark Goldbridge.

I would love to have a discussion with anyone who wants to discuss our football structure in a civilized way. I'm actually very optimistic regarding the current structure and believe it's helped us improve the football side from the youth to the first team. But the guys heading the recruitment structure, shouldn't be made to work with a manager but rather a head coach IMO.

I think that it's only normal that the rumours were cooled down a bit yesterday, especially with both us and PSG having very important games in the Champions League, Can totally understand why they'd do that as PSG need a win at City to help finish 1st in their group to avoid a tough round of 16 draw and we needed a result to guarantee qualifying.

Can see things get more clear after the PSG game tonight moving towards the weekend.

The new manager will obviously bring his own staff but does that mean he will get rid of the current coaches? I don’t understand how we looked miles better defensively last night and more organised with a plan but it’s the same coaches that worked under ole… that to me says that Solskjær overlooked the coaches and did things his own way.

You know what, I was thinking about that yesterday after the game. We're guaranteed first now and it only makes sense PSG finish second, Poch joins us Zizou goes there.

PSG - United
Poch - Zizou
Messi - Ronaldo
Cavani Vs Old club
Di Maria, Herrera vs Old Club

The last 2 times we were in the UCL we've faced them as well.

It's like it's meant to be.

If PSG want Zidane that means they need to fire Poch and pay him off. If we want Poch, we need to pay them off. If we don't want to pay the 10m then we can announce that getting Poch is tricky so we're looking at an interim still (Valverde). Then if PSG want to get rid of him, we can negotiate a lower release clause. I think that's what people are getting at. tbh I don't know what is true. There's so much spin around this club these days it's hard to figure out. Normally I'd say it's just journos. But in this case it's Simon Stone, which means it's been briefed. It also makes sense though. We should be trying to find a good interim if we feel like getting our permanent pick is too difficult. Then again, saying it's tricky, could all be about money also and they don't want to pay off both Poch and our coaches that we apparently extended (if the Mail is to be believed).
Fasten your seatbelt, these few days could be fun.
God. If Pochettino is our preferred target just pay PSG and go get him. The sooner the better. We don't need a masterclass in negotiation from Ed Woodward, we've seen enough of those, and they always stink and have a tendency to go on for far too long. If PSG feel like we're wasting their time they won't even entertain our proposal, just look at how they handled the 200M bid for Mbappe.

You don't play mindgames with PSG.

Pochettino will bring his quartet (Well Trio and son) and they are a great coaching team. D'Agostino, Perez, Jimenez have been with him since Espanyol and his son is a decent sports scientist.

He did not. He was head of football development at the time and had nothing to do with hiring Mourinho. He was working on modernising our youth scouting network and youth coaching department. In 2018 he was instrumental in setting up the women's team and recruiting staff for them. He's not had any influence on managerial appointments until now.

Can already see it.

We lose the first game 4-1. Poch comes out and says that mountains are there to be climbed. Impressive performance in the second game. 4-0.

Final score: PSG 8 United 1.

They were all backed with money to bring in good players and given support to assemble their own coaching teams. The board aren't great, but the management and performance of the team aren't their fault. All those managers failed through fault of their own, for various reasons.

Ask yourself, how can he get Spurs scoring the most goals and conceding the least over a PL season, but that's not happening at PSG, where Tuchel recently failed also?

His goal difference at Spurs I think I read is better than Fergie ever achieved. Yet the team full of egos and lazy attackers (bar Di Maria) aren't putting teams to the sword...
