I've bought tickets to watch PSG v Monaco in December. I hope he plays, but based from what we've seen this season, not very likely

Messi
He is in the twillight of his career. He's no longer by far the best. I don't consider him by default to be better than Mbappe, Neymar, Haaland, Salah and Lewandowski. And I expect it to go downhill sooner or later. He's still been struggling with injuries and havn't played many minutes. He's played 325 minutes in League 1 so far. It's always hard to call it when Ronaldo and Messi are past it, but I expect things will look better when he's had a chance to really get going.
Messi has been physically himself since Copa semis though.
Let him get back to full fitness, and everyone here calling him, finished, will be shocked.

He's been subbed several times because of injury since then. He was playing injured in the copa final as well.

Dunno what you meant but i think he'll finish the season well.

Him and Ronnie just arent head and shoulders above rest anymore.

I meant he will get back to the level we know he plays for, ofcourse not the peak level(although his peak is confusing), but he will retain the post 2019 form

Messi is going to be fine, this is the greatest player of all time. He is a massive player to integrate on a team and he hasn't played much yet. It's been really weird at times to see where Pochettino is putting him, but they're going to figure it out and he's going to make a lot of people look silly as hell on this thread. Don't doubt greatness, people still doubting Messi nowadays are like flat-earthers to me, I can't take you seriously.

Time is undefeated and age catches up to everyone. You may be right though. I remember people calling the death knell for his career as far back as 2014.

I think what is ridiculous is people extrapolating Messi's performance for the last few months across his whole career. Peak Messi would have demolished any league in any team and in any attacking midfield or forward position.

It's really about extrapolating it over 320 minutes in League 1.

haha I’ve been there. I have been going to Barcelona once a year over the past 12 years to catch 2-3 matches and the ticket prices are brutal. I’m sure you’ll have a blast against Monaco

How many goals has Lionel Messi scored against English Premier League clubs?
OpponentGoalsMatches
Arsenal96
Chelsea310
Manchester United46
Manchester City77
Tottenham Hotspur22
Liverpool24
Total2735
Those stats are IRRELEVANT since he achieved them while playing for Barcelona. All top ATGs would have great stats had they played for that Barcelona team.
Had he played for a team like Sevilla, he wouldn't have scored half of those goals.

At this point he only cares about the World Cup and those two Champions League campaigns he's got left. I thought he could still return to Barca for one season in 2023 if Xavi does well there but at this point MLS is more likely, I guess.
He doesn't stand a chance at the World Cup. Argentina are no match for Europe's top team.

Speak for yourself. Pele and Maradona still rank higher than him as far as I'm concerned. Until he wins a World Cup with a great performance, he's not the GOAT.

Don't think so. Put him in a team that doesn't play a system/style that suits him, and he ain't demolishing anyone.

Speak for yourself, the greatest player of all time is this guy, Ronaldo

Edit: Oh didn't do enough 'due diligence' when I googled searched Ronaldo. This isn't the Ronaldo I meant, easy mistake.

This does not make much sense.

If we refer to your logic, stats of Van Basten/Ronaldo/Lewa & Gerd Muller/Aguero/Thierry Henry at Milan/Real/Bayern/City/Arsenal are irrelevant because they all played for mighty AC Milan/Real/Bayern/City/Arsenal. All top players would have great stats had they played for those teams. Had they played for a lower ranked team, their stats would be much worse..

Are you really saying Arsenal is a legendary team ?!:lol::lol:
Messi's 2009-2012 Barca is probably the best team in history, so your examples are not quite on par.

Since Neymar was sold:
Vs Liverpool: 2 games, 2 goals
Vs Chelsea: 2 games, 2 goals
Vs Man Utd: 2 games, 2 goals
Vs Spurs: 2 games, 2 goals
and a game against Man City with PSG (with Neymar again though so clearly doesn't count), where he also scored. There were no trebles or anything during this time, no Xavi or Iniesta, no Neymar, what kind of production do you want from him?

See you could not refute any other examples in my previous comment.. Yes, in the PL where that Arsenal was very dominant..Are you saying the opposite? Do you think Henry would reach legendary status in the Premier League with Aston Villa instead of that Arsenal team under Wenger?:lol:

That Barca is one of the best teams in history because of huge contributions by Messi, just like that Bayern in 70s was one of the best teams ever partly because of huge contributions by Gerd Muller, or Milan in the 90s because of huge contributions by Van Basten. That's why these players are considered among the best. Your whole argument is based on the naive assumption that the greatest teams of all time would still be the same without their best players such as Messi, Van Basten, Ronaldo, Gerd Muller/Beckenbauer ignoring the very basic fact that these players are central to the greatness of these teams..

I haven't seen Ronaldo win a CL without Modric,Benzema,Ramos,Toni Kroos,Scholes,Marcelo,Giggs,Vidic,Evra,Rio,Rooney,etc

I waited for him to win a CL on his own with Juventus, without not many top players around - FAIL
Now im waiting for him to win a CL with current United, under Ole's wheel and mastermind of midfield Fred... let's wait.

Well, its hard to blame him for the first season with Juve, he was his usual RM-self in the knock-outs.

Imagine believe that Messi is finished and he wasn't important for Barcelona.

Messi will be fine. He is just too good.

this dude said Messi is not skillful because he does not perform elastico:lol:, reminds me of those trolls from early times, who used to say Messi cannot dribble, he just runs with the ball:lol:
@Bogdannn used to be pro. He knows what he's talking about.

A bit early. He's definitely on the decline. He's at the age where most players decline and start to go into retirement mode. It will be interesting to see if he gets going.

CL? He didn't even win the last league, and after like 8 years of dominance

Ronaldo is older than Messi. And he performed way better for Juventus than Messi for PSG.

Messi is only just getting started at PSG. I doubt that he'll be the same player by 36 though. But this isn't the Messi vs Ronaldo thread.

First time I noticed it was the world cup. His work rate is a disgrace really. Barely moves.
