Have to say I don't really understand the clamor for any of the named interim candidates. They've all won a handful of cups and/or (mostly) lower tier leagues, but surely what we need this season is somebody to steer us towards the CL final (let's be ambitious folks). None of the named candidates have CL pedigree.
The examples of Hiddink and Di Matteo are referenced often, so it seems that is the kind of impact folk are expecting from an interim. I really can't see that happening with the names being considered. Personally I would push hard for Zidane as interim. He apparently isn't keen to manage in England - ok, but sell it that this is only for the season, make CL the absolute and number one objective, and he gets a chance to make history as the only manager to win 4 CL titles. We know he can get the best out of Ronaldo and Varane, and likely Pogba too, and would bring a winner's unique knowledge and experience. With experienced coaching, and some good draws in the knockout rounds, a CL win is achievable for this squad.
There are no guarantees with picking a manager I know, but Zidane is the highest achieving of the out of work managers, and the powers that be should be moving heaven and earth to get him.
