Because he has it all. He's literally living every mans dream - and it generally doesn't sit well with the common match going fan, it's just natural for them to hate. He's also clearly a narcissist but the majority of professional footballers are, let alone those who have a legitimate claim to being the greatest of all time.

Yeah, if you actually believe this there’s nothing I can do for you.
What proof do you have that should make anybody feel otherwise.

Baring in mind the court have reviewed the evidence and don’t see any reason at all to re-open the case?
Yet here we are talking about him as though he’s a guilty man, which is exactly why celebs settle out of court.

This. Even Beckham and Zidane pale in comparison with Ronaldo.

I'd think its rather football tradition or something specifically on Ronaldo, rather than unpopularity of the player himself. After all, he has by far the most followings in social media in the entire world, he is simply the biggest thing out there, you just have to boo him if he played against your team, even deep down you know this will turn him on for scoring the winning goal against your team.

Actually we also did boo Ronaldo the time when he played against us in Old Trafford, after round of applause, its just, to utmost respect of him from our fans, and all the great things he has done for us, we have to support our own team too, so we have to draw the line there against the opponents biggest threat, and booing is the best way to draw that line, and expressing our recognition.

So in this regards, booing him is actually somewhat equal to recognition or even cheering for the player.

Yeah never understood the hate Lewis gets, he’s the GOAT and has always been a class act.
Not too hard to understand why tbh when on the flipside, an entitled and oft petulant brat Iike Verstappen is so beloved

Re Ireland fans, didn't there use to be a Irish sports writer who made a living bashing Ronaldo? (Maybe he still does)

All that’s been thrown into doubt though hasn’t it, wasn’t acceptable as evidence which throws into doubt it’s validity. It’s was being leaked with a load of other football ‘stuff’ at the time and it’s impossible to determine that aspect to be legit.
It was inadmissible in court. As far as I know, there was no argument about the validity of the documents, just that they couldn’t be used because it was leaks of what was discussed under client/attorney privilege.

It depends how much you want believe in the judicial system providing justice all of the time. People will always have their own opinions on this, just look at the Rittenhouse stuff in America.

Dunphy years later admitted he was wrong about Ronaldo. Are you suggesting Ireland fans boo Ronaldo because Dunphy called him a showpony 15 years ago?

I've read that his legal team have totally denied those documents between him and his lawyers even exist and that anything 'leaked' with the rest of the football related leaks were not legit and that's why they were not admissible.

Agree that the justice system is questionable, I'm not arguing that, just find it incredibly harsh to reduce a footballing icon's entire career down to this topic when by all accounts there is no case to be had on it. For the record if he was found guilty I would absolutely change my opinion on him, did the same with Giggs who I worshipped as a kid growing up.

I work in the Justice system, there's no smoke without fire on these allegations. How many times have you been accused of rape?

The attitudes that have flooded in since my earlier post say it all really.
Oh well if you work in the justice system and say he's guilty he must be. Case closed.

Lord if I know. It was peculiar 15 years ago, can still be peculiar now.

Them booing him will be for a lot of the same reasons that made Dunphy go into his disparaging rant.

I actually think Dunphy was right the first time around in his character assessment; because Ronaldo is the embodiment of infantile ego-centrism, verging on solipsism. The wrong part there was in thinking this will preclude him from becoming a top footballer. This opinion is made impossible to hold any longer as it's palpably absurd (the player winning accolades galore).

But, rather than realising that people with such a personality can make supreme athletes despite being less than likeable, he went on this conceit that Ronaldo is now a changed man, and that is how he was able to become a great player.

Anyone who works in the justice system and uses the phrase "there's no smoke without fire" probably shouldn't actually work in the justice system. Mind you, it's such a vague job description that you could be anything from High Court Judge to prison toilet cleaner.
