Jurgen, you stand here. Und Thomas, you stand here. Now, remember what I taught you, respect your elders.

If either if you moves ahead of me in line-

Will be very interesting to see, and for me there are a lot of open questions.

Overall he prefers (counter) pressing and playing on the transition. Klopp and Hasenhüttl come to mind as using a similar style (especially the latter as he came through Rangnick's Red Bull club network).

Should fit the current squad a bit better than someone prefering positional possession play like ten Hag does.

Formation and starting eleven is a big question mark for me. I guess it will depend a lot on the impression the players make on him during their first coaching sessions, as I guess he will need to see who can really do what for him. Probably something of a 4231, 433 or 442, but I doubt the latter as Imited currently does not have good midfielders for it.

As he prefers an energetic style he has to use the squad and he had often preferred young players, especially when they were willing to learn. So we could well see some youngsters getting some games.

January signings again will depend a lot on how the players perform in the next weeks under him, for me there is nothing obvious except maybe a new CDM.

he will probably fix AWB, bruno and greenwood lazyness and he will work hard on shaws fitness

remember, great progressive managers do wonders with what they have. they can make anyone run. but a new midfielder in january is a must.

for now:

------------------degea
awb----varane-----maguire-----shaw
--------VDB----fred----bruno
--greenwood-----------sancho
-----------------ronaldo

I could see Bailly maybe getting games ahead of Maguire. Could see him improving Fred, VDB, Sancho, Rashford. Think he’ll get Rashford to stop shooting from all over. Interesting to see what he does with Mason. Could see Martial possibly getting better under him. Hannibal getting some games would be interesting. Think Ronaldo might be an issue.

I think we will be close to this, with a couple of changes:

De Gea
AWB - Lindelof - Varane - Shaw
VDB - Fred - Bruno
Sancho - Ronaldo - Rashford

I don't think he will put up with Maguire's dithering on the ball.

Small chance he uses Ronaldo as an impact player too, as he's not staying and not bothered if he ruffles feathers. Could be:

VDB - McT - Fred
Sancho - Bruno - Rashford

I reckon...

De Gea
AWB Lindelof Varane Shaw
VDB Fred Bruno
Sancho Cavani Ronaldo
Sancho is great in Germany, of course Ragnar will find a way to play him to his strength. Also, he is abit good at pressing I reckon, from the last game I've watched, which suits him better than Greenwood or Rashford I think.

Cavani must start, as he is our best option pressing up front, which perfectly suit his high pressing approach.

Maguire out, too slow and too error prone, will be suicidal to play him as part of high defence line.

He will need good passer in his team, he believes most goals are scored within 10 second of winning the ball back, so players like VDB and Bruno will be important to him

Of course Ronaldo will have to start, maybe as LW forward to cut in and shoot. He is simply the best goalscorer out there.

Lazy feckers like Martial or Pogba would have no place in this team.

He's a fan of 4-4-2 and 4-4-2 diamond I believe, so we'll probably see Bruno behind a front two of Ronaldo and one of Sancho/Rashford.

In terms of signings, I'd expect new fullbacks. We badly need a new midfielder, too.

And we could see us win the ball back quickly. I just want to see some exciting football

This. There will be teething problems as with any process but the difference between this process and our previous one is that we should at least resemble real footballing side within a few weeks. It doesn't take long for a real plan to start shining through.

I imagine VDB and Fred will be big parts, as will Sancho. Reckon Shaw will be out for Telles, i'd be surprised if Maguire starts over Varane or Lindelof as well... time will tell

He’s an interim. He’s gone in the Summer. We need someone who’s going to come in and immediately produce results.

Honestly, I’ve wanted to see us play progressive, front-foot football for the longest time, and we’re finally going to get to see that here!

We’re also going to be well drilled, well coached with an aggressive collective purpose. Anyone that doesn’t get with the program will see themselves out the club and simply turning up will no longer cut it.

Our youth and all those players we’ve bought and haven’t developed (such as AWB) now have the opportunity to come on leaps and bounds within a robust construct that will map out a path to becoming far better players.

It really should be a spark of electricity shooting through the squad.

Biggest appointment we’ve made in all these post-Fergie years.

Some variation of the attached, would probably play VDB in the home games against easier opposition but I don't know why people think he'll be so high on him - He'll give him more games than Ole but it's not like this will be a short passing, possession based team all of a sudden.

He's singled out Shaw for criticism in the past so I can definitely see Telles getting a chance. I think he's got the higher ceiling of the two and with a run in the side he may show that. I think he can provide the width and allow Bruno to tuck inside in possession. I've never been Shaw's biggest fan though so this maybe just what I'm hoping for.

No idea what he'll make of AWB. Bizarre player. Hopefully with coaching he can take his game to another level because if any player has looked in need of it it's him.

I think Lindelof over Maguire is wishful thinking, although I'd be happy to see it. I don't think he's as bad as his recent form indicates even if he is a terrible captain.

He will love Cavani and Sancho - Both very capable pressers who are deadly in transition.

Rashford and Greenwood will need to work much harder than they have previously. They're more than physically capable and there's every chance he'll fall in love with one or both of them.

Pogba and Martial go straight into the bin where they belong.

Don't know how will he line up but hope he lays the foundations for next manager, who should be, stylewise, similar to Rangnick.

Think Greenwood actually starts ahead of Cavani. But you are right on the rest.

Simple. Which United players can play like Liverpool players? He will pick these first and then try to mould others around them. He likes younger energetic players who will more easily play to his instructions. Pogba and Martial are def not his style. Unlikely that he would ever play Ronaldo and Cavani together. If he plays 442 then I think Ronaldo, Greenwood, Rashford and Sancho play, would be wonderful if he knows of 2 CMs who don't cost the earth and could be bought 1/1/22. Defence, Varane def when fit, AWB if he follows instructions; the other two are up for grabs.
He will use the squad prob including some kids. He will have to because our present lot will start blowing after a few weeks, just not physically up to his style. Remember when Ole first took over, he had United playing front foot quite a bit, they looked great, then they hit the wall almost to a man.
Posh style is much more like his than the Dutchman, fast agressive, pass straight forward.

It's also worth keeping in mind that press positioning is perhaps 3/4 of the success of the press itself more than the running aspect of it. Even Liverpool, what makes their counter-press so effective is where they stand. If you're positioned right to press, and you do it collectively, it mimimises the amount of running used in pressing and helps maintain the press for longer periods. That''s why it can look baffling when you see Klopps team doing it for long stretches. It looks like they're working a lot harder (and they are), but the organisation and collectiveness of field positioning reduces a lot of leg work in making it effective.

Don't want to be a downer, but people said similar things about Mourinho. He didn't change much

It will take some time to implement his philosophy.

Just watched this on YouTube. I hope the Ronaldo part is true.
That’s what we were trying at times on Tuesday and it’s what led to Ronaldo’s goal. We were quite clearly marking passing lanes rather than chasing the men, like we were under Ole. McTominay, for the abuse he got, was directing VDB and Sancho when to press and when to stay a lot. I think people might be surprised by how he is used going forward.

I said in the match thread at the time that Villarreal were really taking their time choosing their passes out of defence, it was night and day to the first leg at OT. But people were obviously just crying about the fact we didn’t have much possession.

Because VDB is a smart player. I know that from watching Ajax and LVG confirmed as much when he mentioned he couldn't call up "certain" task aware players due to lack of match fitness in response to questions about why his midfield collapsed.

Under Rangnick there'll be clear instructions on how to press, how to beat the press and how to set up attacks with quick passes and link up play. McTominay has 0 experience playing under a modern manager.

Will Donny play ahead of of Fred, Bruno and Matic? Who knows. I just struggle too imagine a modern manager favoring Scotty, especially in the short term.

Just because someone hasn’t played under a “modern manager”, whatever that means doesn’t mean he’s incapable of it. McTominay is by all accounts extremely easy to coach, Mourinho was praising him for this pretty much right away. He could easily be another favourite of Ralf’s like he has been with every manager he’s played under.

Surprised how many people are picking AWB to continue starting if you need players who are technically sound, play quick football and can actually pass a ball in this system. Hopefully he can improve Dalot and he can nail down that spot.

What are the chances he tries to mold bissaka into a centre back, I don't know if he has form for transforming players positions long term?
