van der vaart and the haters will never explain how a bad, awful, pathetic defender like maguire was nominated for the best euros XI

did van der vaart make it into a best euro XI ?

maguire just needs a better midfield in front of him and he will be back to his best 2020-21 form

Do you think Maguire is a better CB than De Vrij, Skriniar, Varane, Dias?

Blind it made into the 2014 best XI as left back. Giancarlo González as a CB. It's quite meaningless.

VDV is just pissed because we wouldn't spend 10m on him in 10/11 even when we really needed a midfielder.

This season? Yes.

Overall? Not a chance. Not even close.
Overall its the same picture. Better passing, reading of play, positioning from Lindelöf. Stronger physics and better aerial from Maguire. This is also why Maguire is better for us under the defensive negative type of football we played under Ole and Lindelöf is much better for us if we want to play modern progressive football.

Lindelöf can’t get tight and physical to save his life.

Knocking Harry while he’s down…it must be great being a pundit today.

When he was in the final at the euros he wasn’t useless then was he.

I hate modern football coverage so much!

Thats what I said. But he reads the game much better and usually interrupts play alot better.
If we value pure physics and no brain Maguire will be the better choice. But that is not the style of setup we will have under Rangnick or Poch or Hag.

Why is anybody listening to Van Der Fart? The word shit pretty much sums up his career.

Just because Lindelof runs away from attacker doesn't mean he has better positioning and intercepts well. He is just passive defender.

Thats just silly when he has more interruptions that Maguire. If anything I wish Maguire would run away more when he has the ball instead of running towards the striker and loosing it again and again.

Erm… more than anything a high pressing game demands defenders that get incredibly tight and physical. Ragnick himself comments on how important that is, because a defender who backs off and is more passive is a disaster waiting to happen.

You need movement and the ability to switch direction swiftly. The exact opposite of Maguire who moves like a tanker.

Lindelof averages 1.14 interceptions per 90 mins for ManUtd.
Maguire averages 1.62 interceptions per 90 mins for ManUtd.

If we go by their PL career then it's 1.78 interceptions for Maguire.

That’s not what RR says, and Mats Hummels for what it’s worth can do neither.
RR believes that slow defenders are fine, the most important thing is that defenders get extremely tight and extremely physical.
Pace at full back & a sweeper keeper are far more important.

Maguire has been shit most of the season but he's clearly not been fully fit - at his best he's reached a higher level than Van Der Vaart ever did who was a failure in his one big move and didn't last long at Spurs either
Wait this is literally factually completely incorrect. To date VDV career far exceeds maguire. In fact it's not even remotely comparable.

The urge to call players shite is really strong in some…

I agree with roonster in this whole debatte.

He lead most defensive stats last season and there were not much complaints. This season he is terrible, no one is arguing against that.

Nonsense - VDV is a story of wasted talent, highly rated youth who failed in his big move to Real and then a journeyman who never settled anywhere

Harry Maguire's place in this year's Euro Team of the Tournament is already better than anything VDV achieved in his whole career

That's such a stupid take. El Hadji Diouf was in the WC 2002 All Star team.
Awards for 5-6 game tourneys mean nothing. As for van der Vaart he was a proper wonderkid in the early 00s.

Not remotely comparable? He's just a shit Eriksen
He was amazing in bundesliga for HSV and did well for Spurs.
His stats speak for themselves
175goals and 125 assists
and he wasn't even a striker/forward winger.

Harry Maguire's passing has always been suspect. I posted some stats while he was a Leicester player comparing his passing ability with other center backs in Europe and he was off the charts bad.

https://www.redcafe.net/threads/harry-maguire.425839/post-23652711

Interesting also to look at this thread whilst he was still a Leicester player and we were interested - a much more objective discussion of his talent and ability. Plenty were calling him shit, and overpriced at over 40m quid though, so that's consistent.
I'd have saved us the best part of £100m buying him for £15m and not Lindelof from when that thread started.

Did you not see the video posted in this thread? Its basically 10 minutes of watching De gea screaming abuse at Maguire for being shit.

Was he? I thought VDB flattered to deceive, a very average footballer.
He was just lazy and his type of player became obsolete early in his career, but especially until he was 24-25 he was absolutely brilliant. He just never made the final step to being truly world class, but neither did Eriksen.

He looked a real talent at Ajax, but never did anything in a top league to justify the early hype. Based on their Premier League spells, I think the Dane was clearly more impressive.

VdV has called Maguire shit for years, rightly so too. He’s really not the guy to pin these “revisionist” or “knocking Harry when is down” allegations. He’s always been consistent with his assessment of Maguire hence him prefacing it with “I’ve spoken about him too much, I try to avoid speaking on this guy these days”

I'm a big fan of Holland and no great fan of Denmark (Ireland seem to get them in 3 out of 4 qualifying groups) or Spurs - but Eriksen was a better player than Van der Vaart. I wouldn't even say it was particularly close.

Vlar was it? The Dutch CB from Villa that was part of the World Cup final squad? Prefer him as the example since Blind has been quality and continued to shine even in the CL
