Hell of a stretch to choose this weekend to make a criticism of “the whole German pressing thing” considering how easily the goals are flowing for Liverpool right now.
Helps that I haven't watched any of their stuff for a while! (missed the 5-0 too)

I think Klopp's Liverpool had stretches like that last season, looked really devoid of creativity. Guess it depends more on the talent/form of the forwards. Salah was really scary at the start of the season when I last watched them.
Whereas with City it feels like they can work that pattern around the fullbacks in their sleep.

Fred and McTominay were our two best today. A very good attitude from almost everyone. Bissaka play good too, but was unlucky with the penalty. I am not sure, if there was a free kick on Bailly just before the penalty.

Poor performance on the ball, but a battling spirited display. Not the way I'd like to see us play, we were so negative at times...almost in awe of chelsea.

Not sure who was worse Taylor or that thug Rudgier, made my day when he skied that one at the end, a real grade A idiot he is

Would always take a point away to Chelsea, we were 2nd best today but we worked really hard and capitalised on a bad defensive error.

Hope to see more of this pressing game from the team, it still needs loads of work but we forced the goal from it and I think it’s the way to go, it should get better with Ralf Ragnick in charge.
Think once we got over our early nerves, we worked very hard, not always great quality, but the effort was there. Ragnick needs to work on our pressing and sort RB out.

I'll never understand players opting to go for a chip instead of just absolutely cnuting it.

Fred was good besides that effort. First half was difficult to watch though. It looked like it was going to go the way of City and Liverpool. Better in the 2nd.

That was a pretty limp attacking display but as i said, there's no way we were going to get anything from this with a more attacking line up. Criticism has to be aimed more at Chelsea for being so wasteful.

McTominay and Fred do better in a less exposing formation. The 4-2-4 nonsense left them exposed every game from all angles, we've set up tighter and narrower the past couple which helps.

Directly under the sun... NOW!
We weren’t half as shite as we have nearly all season. We have an inexperienced interim interim manager and a team very very low on confidence away to one of the top teams in the league. We weren’t fantastic but moaning about the performance is weird.
I'm not moaning about our performance. I'm refusing to condone it. Feck this "Well played" BS. We were terrible. But we got a point. So great.

Decent result. Chelsea are a well-oiled machine but they do appear to come up short against the best teams and title competitors (we should be one).

Let's hope we are watching a proper football game against Arse on Thursday.

I don't think anybody was expecting anything less than a Chelsea win if they're honest. Only question was how big the win was gonna be.

Also the fact that it took a stupid pen to deny us the 3 points, I'll take the result today.

Fred and Sancho were great and DDG still the goat. We would have won that with Pogba and Cavani. Can't wait till they're back.

Jeez. You lot.

- We're out of form and woefully down on confidence.
- Chelsea top of the league. Unbeaten in what.. 9, 10 games now?
- 3 out of the regular back 4 injured.
- No Greenwood or Cavani
- No Manager
-Away to Chelsea.

This is a good result damnit. And most of you lot expected us to get battered, and frankly we had the opportunities for 3 points too.

Hopefully a win at OT v Arsenal from the Carrick phase, and let the Rangnick era begin!

Delighted for Carrick. Based on two games, tactically he's so astute. He just need a coach to teach these players on how to keep possession.

All things considered thats a good point to pick up. A difficult last few weeks, Carrick set up a team a particular way and results wise it worked. New manager coming in so Carrick has done a decent job of pausing the rot. Looking forward to seeing the new managers football emerge over the next month or so.

We'll take it. Definitely a better second half as we actually looked threatening on the counter unlike the first.

Rangnick has a big job to do to get this side playing progressive football though.

Those figures are not great, but maybe Chelsea should be having a look at themselves as we actually could have snatched a win.
Yep it's an awful result for Chelsea having seen their two title challengers absolutely smash us

It's games like today you wonder how Chelsea are going so well as up front they're so shit. Tuchel might actually be the best manager in the league

Exactly! I can't understand the reaction on here, were people seriously expecting us to play like prime Barcelona after getting our arse handed to us by Liverpool, city and Watford?! Carrick had a job to do, he did it well and the team did too.

I think two signings and good coaching will sort this team out. I'm very optimistic.

Jesus Christ you want pogba back playing?
Hope rangick fecks him off to the u21s.

I’d be very surprised if he is a starter under the new boss. Completely the opposite of a pressing player

Liverpool and Chelsea have both scored more goals than City in the league this season. It just feels like you’re being unnecessarily negative about “the German pressing thing” now that Rangnick is about to take over.

34% possession
3 total shots (vs 24)
2 corners (vs 15)

It was brutally inefficient and simply pathetic.

1-1 though. Yay.
It was 34% possession for the entire game. Imagine what it was for the 1st half.

Considering recent results against the big teams, I'll take that result. However we rode our luck for large parts of that game. Chelsea should be walking away frustrated as there's no way it should have been 1-1. A couple of better decisions by our players and the subs and we got have even gotten the win.

Comical that the Caf is criticizing Ronaldo… The man is arguably the GOAT, arguably has the most goals EVER, yet we should leave him on the bench instead of bringing him on? I don’t blame Ronaldo at all, I blame poor decision making on the counter and a lack of service and control of midfield.

Imagine playingwith the likes of Kroos, Modric, Pjanic, Casemiro, etc, then having to play with Fred, McT and an old Matic.

Me neither. From my pov AWB starts the kicking motion while Thiago throws his leg in front of him, he makes contact with the ball and Thiagos glass leg at the same time.
These instances nearly always result in free kicks or penalties in today's game. Remember Nani's sending off - not aware of the presence of an opponent who bust a gut to get in the way? We need to be a bit smarter and start using this to our benefit - like Fernandes did against Villa a couple of years ago!

Don't want to be results oriented and say we played well because we got a result, that was absolutely dreadful. Chelsea's laughable finishing the only thing that saved us from a battering.

Can't keep the ball for more than 2 seconds, so many errors in easy possession, and plenty of defensive mix-ups too.

I honestly think this team lose the ball in easy possession about 50 times a game. The sort of situation where you think "how can a professional footballer lose the ball in that scenario?" If we can cut the unforced errors in possession by even 50% then it gives us the building blocks to actually play a decent game of football, get our attacking players in the game, launch the counter attacks in transition. Unfortunately we couldn't do any of that because we give the ball away within seconds of winning it back.

We honestly look Sunday league level on the ball.

Pretty lucky to get the draw but points are the most important thing right now, so job done. If Chelsea were half as clinical as Liverpool it would have been a different story. The team put in a shift at least and there were a few good performances in there. The subs were a bit weird though.

Good result. Away to an in form Chelsea, with the form we're in, a draw suffices.

Annoyed at Fred wasting that chance to win it at the end though.

I don't care about the stats, DDG had not many saves. In the moments of the game we could have done more. Fred what you doing 88mins on clock. This was a surprise 11. And a poor penalty . Game over 1 pt move on next game

Cool story.

The game is putting the ball in the back of the net. 1 each.

Not awful considering they are the best team in the league and at their gaff.

Chelsea had six chances on target from 24, that is not very good at all.

Agreed. The hard part will be improving the team in regards to what we do once we get the ball, as you said, there is a lack of quality.

Starting to realise plenty on here are just moaners, no matter what's happening, some will be constantly miserable.
Nothing to do with being a moaner, it's just Oleball but even more defensive.

Those who called Ole a coward should now be calling out Carrick, it's cowardly with bells on, far worse than anything before.
