If he arrives in England before 4am tomorrow, he'll only need a negative Lateral Flow test.

Unless I'm missing something.
I’m not sure on the rules around entering the country for work without visa approval. I’m pretty sure it would be a big no-no. He can’t come as a tourist whilst he has a work visa application in process, I don’t think.

The announcement was welcome, but clearly there is a high degree of uncertainty as to when he will actually be able to enter the country to work.

I mean do you all really think bringing in a whole coaching team for 6 months makes sense? Would all those coaches even want to uproot themselves for that short period of time? If we're getting a perm manager in the summer, and he will be bringing his team, then that's unnecessary. At the end of the day Rangnick won't be leaving the training to them, he will be in charge and they will be following his instruction. If he feels it's untenable, I'm sure they'll be gone.

Carrick and Co be gone by Xmas break. No point in having 3 lads stand around in freezing cold while Ralph and his staff he brings in actually have hands on coaching the sesions.

No point in Ralph trying to implement the pressing game and Carrick and Co telling them to get 10 men behind the ball.

Sean Dyche have a job for them at Burnley.

Why? Why is it an issue if he sees them as capable coaches who operated under a poor head coach?

Some really weird hate toward McKenna and Carrick.
Exactly, there is every chance that Carrick & McKenna are decent or good coaches, and it was Ole the "Head Coach" who wasn't good enough, so no matter who are the coaches, if the head coach isn't good enough, it wouldn't matter how good or bad is the rest of coaches

That's nice for them but we are not a coaching academy, although we might have made that impression the last couple of years. The sooner we get rid of them the better.
It’s not realistic though. They’ll be out when a full time manager is appointed in the summer.

Yeah like McKenna is only 35 for example, writing him off as a coach already would be like writing off Greenwood as a player. Him and Carrick taught more nuance in their game by Rangnick could end up very good coaches.

Presumably if Ralf deems our current coaches to be unfit for purpose, he'll advise the board to replace them. Or the next permanent manager will replace them. Until then I don't see the need to turf them all out.

Isn't one of Ragnick's strengths that he has trained a lot of young coaches to implement his ideas and tactics and they've gone on to become decent managers?

I'm thinking Tuchel and Nagelsman here. Carrick and McKenna are still young coaches and perhaps they will learn a crap tonne of stuff from him and come out of it better equipped to remain involved at United. If they fail to adapt then sure, get rid.

Carrick showed a stunning lack of understanding about what pressing is in his post-match interview yesterday. I genuinely got the impression he thinks it's just running around chasing people in ones and twos which is the only 'pressing' we have actually done in the last 3 years. It's never organised, never in groups of 3 or more and never when there are specific triggers in the game to set it into action. Basically we do pressing in the way I used to do it as a sunday league centre forward - on my own and hardly ever forcing an error in the opposition's defence. I did it to show how hard I was working really.

You do realise Carrick and Mkenna were here before Ole?

All the best to Ralf. He needs to get this side playing a discernible style of football that is based on a system rather than individuals; weed out those who aren’t going to fit said system, which in turn hopefully debloats the squad for youth players to push through; install some tactical nous into a side that’s been bereft of it for God knows how long; and help push the club in the right direction for his replacement in six months.

Top 4 is a big plus too. I wouldn’t say it’s an absolute must, but I’d really rather not be in Europa next season.

He was a coach when we won the CL/PL double, and assistant manager when we won multiple league titles.
Phelan was always said to have been more of SAF's eyes and ears, not a "coach" in the traditional sense. Rene was the one coaching SAF's ideas in the last years.

Yeah this. Keeping Phelan, McKenna and Carrick makes sense until the end of this season. How we’ve sold it to them though is interesting, do they know they’re only here for 6 months? It’s a pretty unique situation to be in.

We're running a fecking Make-A-Wish here.

Pretty obvious that those reports of new contracts were true. They just don't want to pay out more than they had to.

Further evidence that Ralf should have carte blanche to manage all football operations at this club right now. It's being run by genuine fools who manage to find the worst option more often than not.
You guys are getting worked up for no reason. He is an interim manager. Of course he won't bring in a whole new coaching staff. What do you do when you hire a new manager who already has his staff, fire all the remaining ones?

It's better to let go of the current incumbent coaching set up at the end of the season when we get a new manager in. If Rangnick is as hands on in coaching as is being shared in the press, it should not be a big problem.

I'm happy it's interim - I want that more than permanent manager because I want to see him as a type of DOF or whatever it is afterwards.

If he was permanent manager then he will one day get sacked and I'm not sure he would do the DOF stuff afterwards in a good mood.

Thought it was refreshing that he didn't say anything about how "this is a huge club" or mention history, fanbase or whatever. Only talks about the here and now.

It will take time. People shouldn't expect us to be challenging for the league soon. Ralf will bring a structure, similar to what Klopp did. Takes times.

Plus, expect a lot of injuries to the squad, whilst they try and acclimatise themselves to his press and work rate.

So Carrick is going to be the last apprentice.
He will be taught the ultimate gegenpressing and will explode Klopp and Tuchel hearts, while the lonely shepherd sounds.

We don't know if they will really be gone. Having an assistant coach working for the club instead of the manager gives you a certain continuity during manager changes (that will obviously happen), for example Hermann Gerland who spent decades at Bayern Munich in similar roles. McKenna especially sounds a bit like him (having worked in the academy etc), so I could see at least one of them staying.

Yeah like 10 years ago. Football has changed since then, and he regressed after leaving United, ending up in Australia.
Still spent years winning it all alongside the greatest manager ever, who clearly rated his work (bar balloon-popping). You don't buy that sort of experience on ebay.

I'm comfortable with the notion of having a temporary proper head coach, with "skin in the game" long term, using them or discarding as he sees fit. Sure as feck will deliver a more appropriate outcome than what some numpties on Redcafe think these guys do or know.

Awful rewarding of failure, these lot should be out along with Ole, how is it he's in the mud and these lot get to continue on with their jobs like nothing happened, coaches under 2 sacked managers... typical of this club
Hopefully they’re just sticking around for Ralf’s 6 months and we’ll see the back of them once the new permanent manager comes in.

All the players will have a cultural shock. They will be taught ideas, systems, tactics, schemes, triggers. They will have to move as a unit, work as unit and all the players, who want to rest on or off the pitch, will find themselves at the bench or in the stands.

What's there to sell, they're all still under a contract, unless they want to quit.

Yeah there’s no way a new manager wants these lads as part of their team.

They have no experience and certainly no ability to implement a pressing style or a possession style for that matter.

They should have left the second Ole did based on their performance, but I understand there needed to be somebody to do the caretaker role and Ralf doesn’t have an established back room staff to bring with him.

I can understand Carrick and McKenna, both young coaches who under right tutelage can become among the best.
What is the use of Phelan staying on?

Those are the standards of this club, courtesy of the Glazers. Carrick, McKenna, Phelan, all of those might be the luckiest "lads" in the whole world. Enjoy it while it lasts, fellas.
I read that it was agreed that Ralf will assess these guys once he arrives, hopefully, he’ll assess that they’re not up to the task.
Pretty annoying to hear that the United old boys club will still be a part of the backroom staff. Carrick and Phelan are better off at Newcastle or a club of similar caliber
And yet we played better the last two games than we have done all season, maybe it was Ole giving the instructions and the coaches just followed what they were told?

Major disrespect to Phelan too, an assistant manager who has won multiple trophies at Man Utd, as the assistant manager.

You brought up a strange point. I hope Rangnick will cut them off IF he finds out they are not good enough after a full assessment. It's different from actively hoping they are really not up to scratch.

This. But we already have a ‘Sack watch’ thread for him and the mods haven’t even shut it down so I expect more of the same when we have a bad result.
