Nice lad, good attitude, but has never been good enough for the level we aspire to be at.

He was very poor, not sure what's the point of him playing. Doesn't show up for the ball, very negative in his play. Dalot even asked him to make the run when he had huge space ahead and McT just stayed back for throw in.

I hope De Beek gets chance instead of him and biggest hope is, he shouldn't be clubbed together with Fred.
If that formation continues DVDB is a non starter in the deeper 2. Are we going to ask Fred to sit so Donny can go forward, especially after seeing how much better Fred is with freedom. Donny as the deepest midfielder, surely everyone sees that as insane?

Horrifying performance.Fair enough by Ralf to give McTominay a proper chance to perform, but now that he’s seen what we’ve been seeing I hope we see no more it.

Why not, its not as if McT is offering something in that position.

Not sure if he'll even be a starter for Norwich. Just dreadful all around and offers us nothing.

Maybe the first casualty of RR's reign, was tearing my hair when he needed to make a slightly forward pass to our player, he delayed, allowed a Palace player to closed the channel, he then passed it outside the field.

You know what, I hope RR does it, so then when it is a disaster people will stop asking for it.

The more likely pick is for Fred to sit, to protect Donny and see how that works.

I don't really want to be part of a pile in on the lad, as he seems an affable chap who always works hard for the team. He really just isn't talented enough to play for a club like United, though. It's not his fault and he is trying, but he's just woefully short.

Hope, We Lose
One of our 3 or 4 players who didnt look better despite the impressive first 30 mins from us overall today. Still needs to be more positive and quicker with his passing, a bit like Fred was today

Horrible numbers. Particularly bad given the amount of possession we had today.
Ronaldo was getting the ball more often that Scott today in a game where we had 61.2% of possession. This isn't a one off either, happens pretty much every game. I don't actually see him improving, his goals that were useful have dried up too.

You can possibly forgive our forwards not getting the ball as much, but our defensive midfielder?

No point changing Fred's position. He is arguably best player in last 4 games playing with more freedom.

Honestly that's an absurd stat. A midfielder should be the heart and system of a team. He should have the most impact on the game, yet this proves what we all know about McT. He's absolutely invisible. Fred makes often mistakes and such, but you can never say he is hiding or whatever. McTominay is... I don't know. I honestly do not understand why Ole kept him startng games for so long. At this point I'd be giving Mejbri a shot, let alone DVB.

Daresay he was exposed today, don't think there's a place for him anymore. He's a passenger, that's the cold hard, truth. We just cannot accommodate him anymore, he doesn't offer anything, he doesn't pass, constantly fouls, isn't progressive. He hides, which I think is unforgiveable for a United midfielder.

That was dalot. He even tried to blame him

He's a squad player wearing the 25 shirt or something - nothing wrong with it we need squad players who can fill in but he's never gonna develop to be a starter despite me hoping he would.

Ok on the bench but that's it.

Well Done Scotty!

Not your best position or playstyle with now Fred being the furthest up and you having to guard.

Decent game with some mistakes like the rest of the team Ronaldo, Bruno, Rashford, Sancho etc

Keep going on your new role until we get a new proper CDM! Then you can play in your more natural role and positions too :)

How is it possible for him to always end up chasing players from behind when he's almost always facing them face front at the start of any play?
This is something I have said in the match day thread too. It is baffling how he manages to do this most of the time.

Great lad I'm sure, good to have in the squad. But if he is one of your first choice cms then you won't be challenging for the biggest honours. We need a proper upgrade.

Some good moments today but overal a sea of not good enough to shocking moments. Just by replacing him we will go up a gear. But to every manager he will always seem like a warrior who will do the dirty work and they will consider him. just hope Ralf is not fooled for long, we can surely find a palyer with much better positioning, movement on and off the ball and better passer than Scott. Luckily for him we have absolutely apalling Matic there and VdB who god knows why didn't get his chance deeper yet. But it's coming hopefully.

He might be starting in defense line. As already pointed by some poster, he doesn't even play in midfield for Scotland.
he is too slow to play in defence in the way RR wants to play. He is much slower than even Maguire.

He'll be out of the team soon enough, it isn't 'Mates FC' anymore.

The new system makes it harder for him to hide and is shown up more as the weak link.

It is in the news that RR is looking to get a DM in January from Leipzig.

Not sold on the lad. Don’t really see a standout quality that he offers.

The initial discussion was about if McTominay would start for Norwich. Surely he's not starting in defense for United. I'd sooner see Lindelof at DM.

32 passes in 90 minutes from a midfielder is not good enough when the team has 60% of the ball. As someone said, hard to see some standout quality that McTominay brings so you start him regularly. As a squad option, yes.
