I’d pay top dollar to have a conversation with the man who used to play this lad as a winger. He wouldn’t be good enough to play winger in the Swedish 5th division let alone anywhere in England.

I got slated for this before, but he is up there as one of the worst footballers I’ve ever seen play for ManUtd. Professional tackler, not a professional footballer.

(btw, I was a fan of the signing and was encouraged by his first season, but not only have I realised he is hopeless in attack, he is actually also a defensive liability if you take out tackling- and yes, playing defense is a lot more than just making a good looking slide tackle; the best defenders actually don’t ever find themselves in a position where they have to slide that often anyway since their positional play is top notch).

He's really not been playing well but, obviously, I hope he's fine after a nasty looking incident late on in the game.

It was a bad day for our RB's v Young Boys - I watched the U19 game earlier in the day and we lost two RB's to injury, with both Jurado, and his replacement, Ogunneye, going off injured.

Hope they're all OK.

I didn't watch the match last night and had to watch highlights -

Can someone explain What was Wan Bissaka's fault for the goal?

Seemed just like a long range shot to me but the highlights were not good.

Was sad watching him tonight.

Ultimately he probably isn't good enough for Utd but he's better than he was tonight generally.

One of his worst ever games for us, he's having a horrible season. All our defenders have been terrible this season but where as Shaw looked ok tonight and even Maguire has been better since Ole got sacked AWB looked as bad as ever.

Not his fault. Bad pass led to confusion, the opposition made the most of it.
It wasn't even his area to cover.

Meh. When you don't like a guy, you'll blame his for basically every little thing. Van De Beek lost the ball on this one.

It was a poor performance overall.

Nah, he played like crap all around. Probably the worst player on the pitch competing with Lingard and Matic. Shit touches, shit passes, jogging back, didnt bother to run and track his man, cant head the ball to save his life, dribbling and positioning as usual are garbage too. I dont think he event beat his man once and complete a cross. And to put cherry on top he faked a head injury because he didnt bother to run back to help defense.

Said this a thousand times already - he’s a basketball player pretending to play football
Did you see him trying to jump ? I have seen high schooler with more vertical than him. :houllier: Plus he has the shittiest hand eye body coordination I have ever seen in United player. Everything he does looks so clumsy and ponderous.

Dalot is not under a threat at all from Bissaka. Even today under Rangnick, I'm still not too pleased with Bissaka's general play on the possession. Bissaka is equivalent to Smalling when on possession of the ball.
I will correct it. If Bissaka has good positioning and good aerially, he would be Smalling. He's more limited than Smalling. No talent to be modern RB and no talent to play as CB in any football era.
Even with possession of the ball, Smalling was still better IMO. Smalling may lack in term of technical ability which limit his passing options, but he's actually careful with possession. He's hardly misplaced simple pass, nor aimless with some fancy dribbling footwork only to lose possession afterward.

Smalling survived LVG tenure as starter is proof for that. LVG couldn't stand Johnny Evans who technically better but panic when being pressed.

Smalling playing as RB during his early days under SAF while being limited in term of attacking, was better than AWB. I don't remember a game where Smalling just jogged and let opposition winger to run the length of the flank to approach our goal. A full back with aerial box defending ability is actually an optional bonus. So if you can't utilize your fullback for width and attacking purpose, having a young Smalling as RB is better than AwB.

We’re truly fecked at right back with the current options. AWB will be a liability in RR’s tactics, he just doesn’t offer anything going forward. He’s also not particularly great at defending too, a few successful last ditch tackles do not make you good at defending. With Dalot also fairy unproven, it’s going to be a big issue for us if he’s not able to step up to the task. Either way, we’ll need to sign a new RB.

I am sure that we will be in for a new RB come summer, unless AWB improves significantly. I am more hopeful about Diogo at this stage.

It was partly his fault. First he headed the ball straight to their player when under no pressure, and then he decided he wasn't interested in the play after that. VDB's pass was rubbish but if AWB had been remotely engaged he could still have recovered it or at least put the YB player off.

When Rangnick was complaining about our shit passing inviting them to press us it was AWB he was mostly talking about.

Looks like getting an RB might become even more of a priority than DM. Wan-Bissaka is just awful regardless of the opposition, Dalot is no great shakes either is more likely to give us Villareal type performances but still better than AWB.

Pray that Laird will make it. He looks like a big talent but who knows whether he can make the giant step up required

But compare his interaction before their goal, and Mengi's effort to block a shot on target in the end of the 2nd half. Night and day, the kind of effort AWB showed today can and will get fecked off under Ralf, hopefully.

One of those nothing games where it was always hard to look good with the team that was selected. The basics just weren't there though when they needed to be, more than a few passes missed and goes to ground too much for me when trying to when the ball back.

Hopefully the injury isn't serious and he can carry on learning under the new manager and make his case with a better team around him. Dalot should be first choice for now.

He really doesn’t fit with RR’s style of play! Can we not recall Laird as his performances for Swansea have been fantastic

Poor header to start with, and then absolutely on his heals with zero interest in giving DvB an option. He just checked out/switched off as though his job was over after the poor header. It’s something I’m certain Ragnick will not be at all happy with.
He obviously wasn’t the main person at fault for the goal, DvB should really find a less dangerous ball to play there, but him switching off was a part of the problem.

Didnt people say he would be amazing if he had passing options with Rangnick in charge

Can only polish a turd so much. He's rubbish on the ball. Get Lamptey in and have Dalot/Laird as backup.

I'm really not a fan of his. When you look at successful teams in recent years you'll often find they have strong fullbacks who are able to contribute as much to attack as they do in defence. Hell, we experienced first hand the importance of good full backs with Ferguson; Irwin, Neville, Evra - all incredibly important players in our success. AWB is a million miles off their level. I have a feeling we'll be seeing a lot more of Dalot.

Smalling survived LVG doesn’t prove that at all because using the same logic, you are saying Smalling is better on the ball than Evans who didn’t survive under LVG. Initially, he wasn’t part of the plan but Jones‘s injury forced LVG to play Smalling. Smalling wasn’t given a ball playing role. Back then also there was not much high press applied to the football system and there was even one opposition manager to instruct their players not to worry when Smalling has the ball, just let him have the ball.

technically deficient. tactically clueless. spatially unaware. athletically uncoordinated.

he has a few highlight spectacular tackles but not a good defender as he is always out of position due to his poor reading of the game.

offers nothing going forward. an attacking cul-de-sac. you can see the other team scheming to get the ball to him.

worst of all, he is far too casual in his approach. there are too many examples of him lazily jogging back when the opposition has the ball.

i don't know if he is the worst player in the squad. but he is certainly the most expensive flop so far based on his play.

some of his deficiencies can certainly be coached out, but to thrive in RR's system requires training of the brain. something we have seen scant evidence of in AWB.

Why did none of his teammates go check on him at the end? Especially when the stretcher etc was brought over. I saw Shaw look in that direction but not go over. Weird

Yeah im starting to think he's never gonna be good enough. His game going forward has not developed at all.

He is really good defending 1-on-1, but really his recovery pace always helps him get out of jail when he is out of position.

Overall he's not a fullback i think we can build on long term anymore.

I don't think he'll make it under RR. Whilst it's only one game, playing at the higher pace seemed to short circuit his brain and he was all over the place. At the least he has a lot of adjusting to do.

Because we have a bunch of idiots playing for the club. Same thing has happened before, and previously I think someone was down getting hit in the head, Shaw goes first to the ref and doesn't even check his teammate, was it Amad or Elanga I was not sure.

The positions he takes up. There was one sequence were he stubbornly decided to take up the CM position in between the opposition players. DvB gestured him to move to the flank and provide width, but no, he just wandered back inside ….
But to be honest, I think that he is the worst footballer of to wear a United shirt. He plays like the guy who had one pint to many in Sunday League.

This point is beyond AWB because he isn't the only one that has done things like that but since he made that poor mistake yesterday. On the goal that we conceded he makes the worst mistake when he decides to not the let the ball out and instead gives a attacking opportunity to the opposition. Van de Beek mistake looks bad but he only had one good option which was a one touch pass to Shaw, I don't know if he saw it or wasn't confident enough but I can forgive something like that. But players need to understand the value of resetting the defense, if AWB let the ball leave the field, the team regains defensive shape and we are unlikely to concede that goal.

Seeing people trying to absolve him of blame for the goal because he isnt the DM so it isnt his position. Wow.

A reminder to me that many people who talk about football have never played and really have no clue about the game.

That's what worries me the most when he plays. The opposition could be attacking the space left behind him and the man would just run normally expecting Lindelof or someone else to cover for him. I'd expect this from a 34-35 years old RB who hasn't got the legs anymore

RR did say it was an audition for a lot of the players today, and comparing his performance to Dalot's the past 3 games he put on a display I imagine Ralf will not want to see be in his regular first team plans.

That being said, he looked in a hell of a lot of pain at the end, the drop off of the OT pitch has always baffled me. Seeing it up close in person it is steeper than it looks on camera, and with some pace combined with a wet pitch its surprising there aren't more injuries. Hopefully not out for too long but may see more youth players like Laird coming in as cover.

Terrible game, he has been in a bad form but even at his 'best' he was barely good enough. I just think with the right coaching and playing style all of Dalot, Laird and even Williams could be better options than him.

Just lacks too many other things to compensate with just good tackling.

The atonishing thing about the £50m we paid is that his inability to attack was known at Crystal Palace. His trnafer thread is littered with posts questioning his ability to help our attack.
What we didn't know is how poor he could be positionally.

I thought he was pretty good in his first season, then in the 2nd he gradually improved offensively but this season he has been utterly terrible - even in defence. He seems so lost out there. Also I think that Dalot's good performances has highlighted AWB's deficiencies and Dalot himself is not a top fullback. Hopefully his injury is not serious but he might need some time out of the team to work on a few things.

He wasn't the only culprit for YB's goal but it highlights his dreadful form. First a headed clearance straight to a YB player causing them to put pressure on us. Then he casually strolled back and was standing still when DVB played a poor pass to him.

Our biggest mistake was not having proper competition for him the last few seasons - hopefully Dalot can be that now.
