Fans Singing Ole Songs

First of all; Jose and Lvg don't get songs (which is the main point of this thread). In matter of fact, fans mostly mock them and talk shit about them. (despite that they did better job than Ole).
Lampard's reign was much shorter than Ole's and he did better job. He didn't waste money and he promoted players. Results were more or less like Ole's.

As i said; i would not say anything against Ole's status IF he left a club with dignity. His first 2,5 seasons i look in a way; we offered him a chance, he tried and that is it. No shame in that.
But this season i can't forgive. Sorry, i am a twat, prick, plastic fan or call me whatever you like but this season he ruined his status in my eyes. I had a feeling that even if we dropped in relegation battle, he would still refuse to resign.

Just how i feel. Not saying that you all are wrong but that is just how i feel about this situation.
Lampard was in no way better than Ole, just stop.

Why would Ole resign? He still believed he could help United. Think the names you've called yourself are apt.

You Mou lovers are a funny lot.

The Cantona Christmas chant has always been terrible, to be fair. At least Ole's is catchy.
Wash your mouth out. Cantona Christmas is a club classic. The Ole songs are brilliant as well. Why anybody would complain about them I don't know.

It made me angry as Ole is the past and it just seems like we are stuck in the glory past it gives rival fans ammunition. Make some new songs up for the players currently playing. Does Greenwood even have a song yet?!

I have nothing against singing about club legends (Cantona Christmas song for example is nice and rare). But the Ole songs were sang constant and clearly sang trying to make a point for the Tele and people watching. Enough is enough. The coincidence was that Young Boys scored a goal during another Ole rendition by the Old Trafford faithful.

I'm sure even Ole himself is embarrassed and finds it bizarre that they are not focused on the current players on the pitch.
So what?

Ole is a legend, will always be.

What serious damage?

I know you're an Ole-hater but, come on, he turned this club round after the poisonous era of Mourinho and left Rangnick with a much improved squad.
I don't know how many times i must say this; I am not Ole hater. Why would i be Ole hater? I am just highly critical (have bigger standards) to those who are not doing good job for this club. I didn't want Ole gone because i hate him (who the feck can hate Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and be United fan?). I wanted him gone because from day one i knew that he is not good enough. And as we saw, he was awful.

Damage? Won nothing, wasted 3 years in nothing, left uncoached squad, broke negative records.
He did left high quality squad, i admit that.

If he left a high quality squad then he hasn't done any damage at all. Which is more than can be said for most of his predecessors post SAF.

Winning nothing is disappointing but its not really damage is it?

His job was to win trophies and not only to buy potential players for the next manager. That's the job of the DOF.

Ole haters, Mou lovers...you just love to put labels on people.
So you are Ole lover and Mou hater? Is that how it goes?

most posters in here are the same guys that were inexplicably angry after seeing pictures journalists took of ole smiling during games or out walking to woolworths

Great list he sits nowhere near them man.

As I said his ratio is so high because he would of accumulated less minutes.
Pro tip: fact check stuff before you write them.

Cole: 274 games, 20,397 minutes, 121 goals, 44 assists
Ole: 365 games, 20,363 minutes, 126 goals, 50 assists

Yeah I’m sure a thousand stories could be told from those stats. But a simple one is 1 was a better player and the other goes down as a legend because he had 91 more games to score 5 more goals

Seems like a complete non starter in terms of trying to find an issue or grievance.

He was sang about before he became manager, during his management, and it'll continue now his tenure has ended. There isn't really a story there.
The story isn't that his songs are being sung, the story is his songs are being sung more than before he was a manager.

The frequency of the songs is the story.

Should we sit around tallying up the volume of songs sung about the last manager in case they reach a level deemed unacceptable? What's the threshold?

The real story is the frequency of pointless things people require to fill out their daily quota of moans.

I don't mind either way. I was just pointing out what the actual issue was.

It seems an irrelevant thing to me but it does showcase the divide that happened in the fanbase during ole's reign.

Minutes per game: Cole 74; Ole 56.
Right. So, Cole scored less goals per minute than Ole.

And you think this fact supports the idea that Cole is the better player (or more of a legend, or whatever it is you're trying to argue here)?

It’s really simple. One guy started the majority of the games the other guy started on the bench and was happy to stay there for years like Jesse Lingard seems to want to do.

Cole was a better player - otherwise Solskjaer would start and Cole would be a sub. Surely that's a logical statement that needs no further debate.

Football is a game of episodes/moments, and Solskjaer grabbed the biggest/most dramatic of them all which cemented his place in history and contributed to the aura/legend, but let's get real - he wouldn't be in the top 30 United players of all time on ability alone.

It's always ex-players that divide "top reds" and "lesser reds". It's just a song ffs. Fans can sing whatever chants they want so long as it's appropriate. I think we need to leave behind sentimentality. One group of people care too much about nostalgia and the other care too much about the bad stuffs that happened when Ole was Utd manager. They're both in the past and what we should be looking forward to is the future.

Yeah, it shows that the greatest manager of the game kept one for 91 more games. And then a clueless forum troll decided he knows better.

Mate you was 6. What do you know I watched the majority of his career you probably don’t even know his debut. Give it a rest or how when he originally came on the scene how commentators couldn’t pronounce his name correctly. Give it a rest this one isn’t for you
Yes i was 6, well done for being able to do basic mathematics. I stayed up and watched Ole score us the winner and as such he held a special place in my heart at an age when I was absolutely manic about football. The fact commentators couldn't pronounce his name has the square root of fu*k all to do with this conversation.

I'll decide what's for me mate. Even if I was only 2 during that time nothing stops me researching and understanding our club, players and it's overall history and knowing what impact certain players had during their time with us. RVP's season was fantastic and it's the last season I (probably anyone here) truly loved watching United as it coincided with the time I was at university and everything was multiplied but to say he did more for the club than Ole did is just ridiculous and if you are not Wumming then I feel sorry for you for having this opinion.

believer that Sancho will turn it around
I can't believe that this thread is real and that it's gone on for 7 pages.

He was a key player for numerous titles as a player, including an all-time epic CL winning goal in extra time and came back to manage the club at a point in time that felt far more dire and hopeless than it does now, and helped the club at least finish respectably in back-to-back seasons.

People who want to sing his name at matched have every right to, and honestly it makes them look far less reactionary, short-sighted, and ungrateful than a lot of other fanbases and even a significant part of our own. If this is controversial to you, maybe find something better to worry about.

I wouldnt say that thinking Cole was better than Solskjaer is an outlandish thing to say tbf. Cole was bloody good striker.
Yup, Cole was fantastic and especially in combo with York. Ole's greatest strength was being that incredible impact sub. I remember how he knew how to exploit tired defenders and did so extremely well, didn"t look half as lethal when he started games.

Statistically, they both scored a similar amounts of goals for United (126 for Ole, 121 for Cole) in roughly 20,000 minutes, but at their peak (98, 99, 2000) Cole was better. Fergie must have thought so too, Cole was getting 1000+ minutes a season:
98 season - Ole 1.784' Cole - 3.647'
99 season - Ole 1.587' Cole - 3.756'
00 season - Ole 2.256' Cole - 3.382'

And Cole-Yorke partnership was the most fearsome duo in Europe at the time - telepathic understanding and goals galore.
