I'm guessing they'll try and raid Bournemouth for the best player(s)

It's hard to tell, if they were relitevely safe from relegation I'd say the likes of Barkley, Lingard etc would go there. As it is I can't see them chancing being stuck in the Champ unless Newcastle can arrange a loan with obligations to buy only if they stay up.
They won't go down with those players tbf

If they're stupid then they'll hoover up the big name players on the way down that high ranking clubs have had enough of, Aubameyang, Dele Ali, Martial, and Oxlande Chamderlain spring to mind, if they're smart then they'll look elsewhere and do something unexpected, but I doubt it.

If they're already playing catch up it can't be ruled out.

West Ham in 2003 added Bowyer and Les Ferdinand to a squad already consisting of the likes Defoe, Joe Cole, Carrick and Di Canio and couldn't save themselves.

Lingarď and Martial are good shouts.

But someone like Origi. For a ludicrous fee like 30m.

They need to stay up first and foremost.

Ox, Martial, Hazard all help them compared to what they've got now.

All got a reasonably decent attitude just not in favour at their clubs.

Maybe other PL clubs won't sell to them though?

I remember when were managed by Sven. He came in when we were rooted to the bottom of the championship, and his name alone allowed us to attract a bunch of EPL reject players on loan. During this initial period watching us play was like Manchester City vs Burnley. We were massively outplaying other teams, and on form were #1, but he couldn't overcome the 10 game bad start. We were well above the rest of the championship in quality though so I expect if Newcastle get similar players, it may be enough to drag them above their relegation rivals.

Sven didn't work out in the end, if I remember right the players hit a bit too much form, a bunch got recalled to their parent clubs and he didn't recover to stay in the playoff positions.

Won't be lingard, he is deluded enough to think big clubs will be queuing up for him in the summer.

Ramsey must be a cert.

He's not even going on Juve's bench now despite being fit (think he's been punished for what he said about their training on Welsh duty).

That's if Everton don't come in with 50m bid of course.

Isn't he on something ludicrous like 350k a week?
Even with their supposed riches they're not going to start with someone on that or more.

Just a loan deal until end of the season I suspect like most signings Newcastle will make. Can't remember if he signed 3 or 4 year deal at Juve so Juventus may decide to pay half of his salary for final year if they sell him.

For any top player to go to Newcastle there would have to be escape clauses for the players in the event of relegation. Big names ain't sticking around to play in the Championship.

Part of me is really curious to see what happens next season if they get relegated. Who will they be able to buy in the championship that will ensure they get promoted? The Championship seems like such an unpredictable league.

I highly doubt Newcastle will be looking at the equivalent of those 2 in 2003 to save them. Wasnt Ferdinand over 35 and Bowyer injured/past it at the time?

Newcastle would do well to sign someone like Teemu Pukki, who can offer them a goal threat in the PL but will likely stay at the club no problem and play in the championship, where he will easily be one of the better players. Norwich will likely be resigning themselves to being relegated this season (they’ve scored 8 goals so far, which is atrocious) so they want to look at getting better fees for some players who’s value drops quite significantly with a division drop. Max Aarons also falls into a similar category, though I imagine he now wants regular PL football.

A mixture of Botman, Trippier and Lingard would actually be a really good window for them.
