Sergio Aguero is set to announce his retirement on Wednesday less than six months after joining Barcelona, reports Guillem Balague.

The 33-year-old has struggled with injuries and health problems since moving to Spain, making only five appearances for the Catalan side.
In his final game, on 30 October, he was substituted and taken to hospital after experiencing "chest discomfort".

Aguero finishes his career with 427 goals in 786 games.

Shame. At least it came towards the end of his career I guess.

Vividly remember his debut against Swansea I think it was - on a shit pitch, raining cats and dogs. He still ran the show. “This is bad news” was my initial reaction. Turned out I was right. What a player.

I remember watching him for City in that season early on where they won it for the first time and he was clearly going to be scarily good. There was a point when he'd score almost in every derby which was infuriating but in the end you've got to have respect as a football fan for such a great player.

It's a shame his career ended this way. Well, it sort of is - at least he had the choice, and it least it happened toward the end, and most importantly of all, he's walking away fully intact, which is > anything else.

I'm sure he's gone through levels of life evaluation since that fateful day.

I knew he was getting old and a bit past it but this feels sort of sudden.

Great player, a pain for us though. One of City's best ever signings

33 really isn't a particularly unfortunate age for your career to end.

I don't know if his condition affects more than just his ability to play professional football. If it does then that's a shame.

Surely he can take it easy in the Chinese league or something?

One of the best strikers to every play the game. Cnut certainly knew how to strike a dagger in the heart of United fans.

Great player, unfortunately against us. He is making the right choice and we all wish him the very best.

Guy was lethal.
Did great for them.
Shame it ended the way it did but his health is most important thing.

A top class player really. At least he had a great career before his forced retirement.

An absolute menace and the beginning of the City surge.

Was desperate for us to sign him before them but never mind.

At least he was able to enjoy mostly a full career and goes out almost on top. Annoyingly good player.

Did they discover the cause of his problems? Was it something he's always had that somehow went unnoticed at all his medicals?

Terrible for him but from Barcas perspective I guess this frees up wages for other potential business

It does seem strange that no issues were picked up on his medical though I guess the insurance companies will be looking into that

Will forever hate him for that goal. And for the many trophies that he helped Citeh win.

That said, amazing player though.

He didn't like it in Spain by the looks of it, I doubt he would go to China.
He didn't like not playing with his best mate, is more like it. He was well up for the Barca move; as was Messi for having him. They're closer than Khedira and Ozil were. Then Messi had to leave, and Aguero lost all motivation for the move.

I'll never forgive the Glazers for giving City a free run at him.

Amazing player - sad end to a brilliant player, but as someone said, he's leaving alive and set for life
Micah Richards did say he was a brilliant, humble, person as well I believe.

He and Suarez were two where I thought if our scouts were any good, we'd have gone for before they started terrorising premier league defenders all over the place.

Well yeah, that's pretty much what I said. He was depressed once Messi left, so that means he wasn't too impressed playing for Barcelona in Spain, let alone go to China.

If the alternative is playing with Luuk de Jong...

To me he's the best outright striker the Premier League has ever seen. His movement and finishing were incredible to watch, even if it was for a rival.

So he can't work out for the rest of his life?
Depends on what's wrong and how hard he wants to work out. It might just be a case of no more top level sport but he's fine to go for a jog.

Top player. I always think of him alongside the other worldy strikers who were coming from Athletico. Torres is retired, Agüero’s retired and now it’s just el Tigre still going.

Top top professional who deserved a better end i wish he played for us instead

What a shitty year he had though
Lost his last chance at closing glory
Got shafted by pep
Goes to barca to play with his mate who then promptly leaves him in dust
Scores a nice goal for his team in elclasico only to have his career ended a week later

Certainly a year to forget for the argentino

A definite top 3 striker of the last decade, probably behind Lewandowski and Suarez. Just a shame that his most iconic moment came to our direct detriment. Certainly a footballing legend though.
