I know it is but the club said they were getting advice from the Gov or something and would update us but haven't heard anything yet. If they were checking 75000 people there'd need to be some communication to us.
They will check 20% of those in attendance, not 100%, and I am pretty sure will be communicated via the t&cs in your season / match tickets

No need to stop the African Cup of Nations, just have all players called up at least 10 days earlier than they were due to give the quarantine time and do the same when they return to the UK . Premier league teams have got big squads so it would be fair .

I think a lot of teams have simply let their guard down and didn't have proper precautions in place anymore to stop bigger outbreaks. Now that a couple of teams have been hit I imagine most will up their game and introduce stricter bubbles and testing so I assume in the long term things will be fine.
Scheduling wise it could become quite messy in the next couple of weeks, so probably an even bigger incentive for clubs to stop outbreaks.

You wonder if they will tell them to curb the celebrations a bit.

 I almost forgot about that - it was when the Bundesliga came back as the first league in spring 2020 and they had advised the players not to celebrate together right?

Yep. At first it was touching elbows. Now it is back to climbing all over each other.

That's the sensible approach and I've had mine ready since August but I can't imagine it would go down well with some and just lead to chaos when trying to get in the ground. Hopefully the club will send something out before Saturday!
For those who have an issue with that, send me my way for spare tickets.

The UK will be back in lockdown till at least April. Hospitalizations are going through the roof in the slum areas of London. Its going to be at least twice last January peak. What are they thinking not looking down asap?

I think you’re right.

Why don’t the PL employ (or even the clubs employ one at each club) a covid inspector who comes in and says how safe their club and processes are from a covid health and safety point of view?

the players also need to show some self responsibility and stop socialising at home etc, get on top of their vaccinations etc. the figures amongst football are perhaps reflective of that

if all else fails and Liverpool go top then null and void obviously

Southwark, Hackney, Islington and Tower Hamlets saw rates rise by 60-70% in the week ending 10 December. The Government don't want to 'cancel' Christmas because it is politically unpalatable. We will therefore limp through December and lockdown in January when hospital admissions could reach double the previous January 2021 peak (according to the pessimistic LSHTM scenario - linked below).

Think i agree with the Brentford manager, call the games off this week let everyone get their bubbles reset. At least we'd have proper Christmas schedule then as right now it'll be odd games.

I'm not sure it's really fair if certain teams have their best players out and others don't.

We'd be getting blamed for that if the game went ahead.

Anyway, just shows how quick this variant can spread even with the vaccines, I think Frank is right we need to reevaluate things and hold off for while. Everyone has gotten very lax. I was at a theater recently, all the vaccinated were climbing over each other at the bar before the show, all talking loudly while drinking in large huddles and then again at the interval and afterwards, no masks in sight, they've been sold it was a out and believe they can't spread it but the vaccines only reduce it a little plus people don't seem to realize we've had the Kent variant which spread more, then Delta which was more again and now omicron so any vaccinated person will probably be spreading it around double the original.

I think there will be a complete stop to the league in England quite quickly. Omicron is racing through the country and the numbers are exploding.
Nobody knows yet whether the new version will be worse, but the time will come quickly when the emergency brake will have to be pulled.

You in England are a few weeks ahead of us in Germany as far as Omicron is concerned, I think that will happen very quickly in Germany then. The home match between Cologne and Mönchengladbach three weeks ago was very criticised because it was sold out, although all safety measures were taken.

In Germany there will certainly be games without spectators again, depending of course on how much faster the whole football circus is infected with Omicron than last year.

Sounds like Leicester-Spurs is going to be called off tonight. Chelsea-Everton under threat too. Wouldn't be surprised if Liverpool-Newcastle is the last football we see until Boxing Day earliest.

I think if this situation were happening in January the Premier League would suspend but because its happening just before one of the most lucrative periods for the PL they won't suspend until they are forced to.

I imagine we'll see some freak results and strange line-ups over the festive period.

Although I'm looking forward to the football I think suspending it is the right thing to do.

Absolute nightmare. It seems it's only going one way but then we'll just have more fixture congestion again next year.

They have to extend the season into June or July again if the league gets suspended surely.

They have to suspend it imo, there are far too many cases. Get everyone isolated and break the spread. Stadiums full of people are seeming a bad idea right now too.

Which means a shorter summer compounded by a WC in the middle of the season. Players will be lethargic by the time 22/23 season comes to a close.
