Looked to be waving goodbye to the fans at the end. Definitely made far more of an effort to thank the fans than any other player did.

Might be something in the rumours afterall.

Yeah, i dont know if it was shown on TV but he went to every stand and waved goodbye, definitely something going on there unfortunately. Gutted to be honest.

Barca are probably offering him another 2 years at the same or better money. I doubt we are up for that. Can’t blame the fella. I’m sure he’ll love it there and he’ll bang goals for them too. I’m surprised we aren’t keeping him until the summer though. He’ll actually need replacing asap. Became one of my favourite players after not wanting him at all. Pity he was out so much these past few months. Proper warrior.

Crap today but still had a superb workrate as per usual. Our coddled "young world class" players could learn a thing or two from this old man.

He isn't either.

He made it clear he was retiring after Qatar 2022, a World Cup that -come March- he may be out of anyway.

If he moves at all, it will be to a club having a shot at the Copa Libertadores and largely down to not expecting much playing time. That is, we are letting him go.

I had a feeling he'd be poor this season.

That said, he didn't want to stay on another season. Ole begged him to stay, and then we signed Ronaldo out of nowhere.

We need a striker in the summer. Again somehow.

He’s a delicious player to watch. Him and Ronaldo together is a dirty sin..

I just dont think we're selling both him and Martial in the same window, especially as we aren't being linked to a new signing. If we are to continue with 4-2-2-2, I dont see how this would work

Add to that, it seems like VDB would be off as well, and Amad might leave on loan, so when you look at the depth chart for the front 4 positions as well, we seem to be down to bare bones

Had a very poor game but did what all players should do when they are not on it, kept working hard for the team.

We seen last season that it takes him a few games to get up to speed so expect the same again (if he stays). Will probably see a few more sloppy performances before he hits top gear.

Terrible tonight.
I suggest you watch back again...first and foremost he worked his bollox off - bare minimum and a proper example to some of the downright lazy performances we have seen from the majority of this squad recently.

More importantly, could you imagine how difficult it is to play as a second striker to Ronaldo when Ronny is clearly the target for every cross and through ball. Go watch back the number of runs he made when he was ignored in favour of Ronaldo. It’s a thankless task but it gave Ronny more space and it’s bizarre that he would be criticised for last nights performance.

He has been mostly average in his time at the club, we need strikers with more quality on the ball.

Odd take. It’s about expectations. He was brought in on a free to give us an option from the bench and set an example for the young forward line. He has performed that role perfectly.

If you were looking for this injury prone 34 year old to be ourfirst choice striker and lead the revolution then you must have not watched him at all in his later years at PSG.

Saw this on Twitter. It’s possible that he might be gone then which is a shame cause he is definitely needed
Our shape is always better when he plays and his attitude is top rate. He is inarguably missing a lot of games though and doesnt have much left in the tank, especially considering we're looking to move to a more high intensity style. If we replaced him and Martial with one good young forward then thats progress imo.

Poor in front of goal last night but good movement and great workrate.

Was he waving goodbye to the fans yesterday after the game? Saw some pictures on social media. Hope he stays.

Spot on. Our owners and management have made some serious mistakes over the years, but I don't think they ever saw Cavani as our main striker. He hadn't been even before Ronaldo's comeback, let alone now.

So is he off then? Could we see an exodus of players next month? It's going to be an interesting window for sure, hopefully we didn't blow the entire season's budget in the summer on Jadon.

Love Cavani when he's fit and on the pitch, but he's a very highly paid player who is absent for numerous reasons throughout the course of a season.

Agreed. For one reason or another this has not been a great signing. Injuries haven’t helped but last year he scored six goals from September to april and this season we head to January with a two goal contribution. What good is great movement if it’s followed by miss control and missed chances. What good is a player constantly injured. What good is it if he’s constantly putting in poor performances while getting back up to speed.

Hopefully he was saying his goodbyes last night and we move on.

I really think he makes a big difference to the attack. When he plays, things just become a bit more comfortable in the final third.

He is a good partner for Ronaldo, but yeah fitness is a big issue.

He didn't have a good game. BUT he held the ball up well a couple of times (much better than Greenwood and Ronnie) and his movement was still good.

We should absolutely keep him. We're playing a 2 striker system and Martial wants out. People that think we can bring in two better CFs in January are delusional.

Cavani isnt lacking quality on the ball.
Actually he's terrible on the ball. A very clumsy player in general. He's at his best running onto things and bringing energy to the forward line but i always cringe everytime he gets the ball at his feet.

I don't think he lost the ball once yesterday. He kept it simple but it looked like it was instruction

Yeah i agree. The people saying he' s rubbish and his touch is bad are off their heads but theres no denying that as a forward option he's increasingly rarely available.

Behind the right goal post as "Whiteside shoots!"

If we can use him 1 in 2, he's a great option. "Leads the line" and our only forward who does that in the sense of making the CHs work physically. A good foil for Ronaldo (or the other forwards to be honest)... 2 out of Ronaldo, Rashford, Greenwood is too similar for me, not enough movement.

We just have to use him wisely, I’d keep him for big games and the champions league. We’re a better player with him than without.

Weather he stays or goes I still rate him highly and wish him all the best.We have to be looking long term now anyway so makes no never mind.
Give me another reason to watch Barca, watch Eddy banging them in for fun.Been a fan of Cavani since his Napoli days the way he moves around a football pitch is sublime and his marksman like finishing is how football should be played.Been good for us in the all to short time he's been here and not disrespected the club.Good luck to him and wish him all the best what ever he decides to do.

A bit disappointed that he seemingly has wanted to leave and Rangnick had to convice him to say tbh

Rangnick: "We spoke about Edi [Cavani] and he knows that I will definitely not let him go [in January] — we will definitely need Edi. I would rather have another Edi on top of that but for me it's clear that Edi has to stay."

Won't leave it seems

Good news. Don't think we can afford to lose him and Martial without a replacement, and I think we might struggle to recruit the right player with uncertainties about CL football next season hanging over us.

Yeah he's a great option, when he's an option. To be honest if he wants out i'm inclined to think its not a crisis if he leaves considering his availability levels are quite low. The shape of the team is always far better when he plays though, no question.
