We've got enough forwards in Ronaldo, Rashy and Greenwood.
3 when we seem to want to play with a 2 man strike force? I don’t think so. Not to mention one of those hasn’t been close to his top level in about a year.

In a 4-2-2-2 you have a main striker and a second striker. Ronaldo can easily play the role of main striker with Greenwood as cover while Bruno can play the role of second striker with Martial as cover. The other 2 can be played by VDB, Sancho, Pogba, Lingard, Diallo and Rashford.

If other players leave as well (Martial, Pogba, Lingard etc) then we'll need to add new players. However I feel uncomfortable keeping a striker whose incredibly injury prone and who is unhappy to stay here.

Martial’s gone. Lingard too. Van de Beek is naff (and will probably be gone soon too). You’ve included one of the 3 options already in your list. Sancho, Diallo, and Pogba are never playing in a front 2.

So, yeah, 3 options for 2 spots.

In that case we need a striker irrespective whether Cavani stays or goes. The guy is a top top player but he's incredibly injury prone. Having him around and expecting him to be fit is like playing Russian roulette. Also maybe I respect him too much having been following him since his Palermo days however I feel uncomfortable keeping him here against his will.

It'd be a shame for Cavani to go as he's been good when fit, and his level of workrate is really impressive.

These murmurs don't look like they're going away though, there's been rumblings of him wanting out for about a year now. He isn't getting any younger so if Cavani's determined to go there isn't any point standing in his way.

It's a bit of a arsey move by Cavani if we are honest. I didn't expect this from him my respect for him has gone down.

if this was Pogba or Lingard they'd be getting dogs of abuse. The shithousery from Cavani who is apparently really pushing for this move to Barcelona in January

I don't think United want him to go in January as there's no benefit for the club. United would prefer him to stay with a fixture pile up coming. But apparently Cavani is really pushing for this move and desperate to go mid-season

anyway Cavani joined United 10 years too late. It's like a really old car, it won't be a daily runner.

Personally, I think Cavani is a better player right now than Ronaldo...but we do need to get out of the habit of having people picking up massive salaries and not playing regularly

Don’t think anyone will sign him…..he’s only been fit for 1 game this season…..real shame.

Barca cannot afford another sick note.

Now rashford is being linked with barcelona.

Its clear as day that barcelona are trying to lure players with there pals in the spanish media.

All a bunch of bollocks without any real substance.

They've just agreed to sign Ferran Torres from City for 55M of borrowed bank money. I doubt they'll be looking for any more major signings in the attacking department. Cavani could still leave

Yeah, wouldn't be in a major rush to see him leave just yet.

I really hope he doesn't leave :(. He's just a good player with high standards, who tries hard. It's nice to see next to some of the pricks who run around beside him.

He is one of the few that puts a proper shift in. Don’t want to lose him in January.

Cavani really needs to stay, give me him over the so called great Ronaldo any day. A man that cares, not like a lot of the rest of players including Ronaldo which is all about them.

I certainly think we cannot afford to lose him in January without replacing him as the other options we have at the club are not good enough.

He is top, top class.

If we are playing a front 2 then there is no reason that Greenwood or Rashford should start ahead of him. Even forgetting individual quality he is the only one who has shown any ability to actually link up with Ronaldo.

Selling him in January never makes any sense anyway. Him and Ronaldo could form a good partnership to save our season.

Tbf I thought he looked dreadful on the ball but the movement was there at least. Could've and maybe should've scored a hat trick.

Not sure if this has been posted already but it certainly looks like he thinks he's on his way out.

I wonder if Cavani might fancy River Plate.
He was rumored for Boca Juniors last summer, so wouldn't be a surprise if he ends up in Argentina. But having the option of going to Barcelona I don't think he'll fancy it.

Anyway ideally we will keep him until the summer, but it wouldn't be a hard hit losing him this window as long as we replace him. He's good when he's available but he's so injury prone that you cant really rely on him.

Thats assuming he wants high intensity football at this stage, and of course Barca arent the big attraction they normally are right now. All speculative though of course.

Yes that's a big issue, maybe he's homesick and wants to lower the intensity. He'll have to massively downgrade his wages if he decides to go to Argentina though, no way they can afford even a third of his current wages.

Is he going to step in and save his second season in his time here? This is what we were going through last season until he stepped up. Forwards going through the motions.
Can you be more specific here? What were we going through last season that is the same as this season and when/how did he step in and save the season?

Would be sad to see him leave, but were we to go in and replace him with a young forward who can hit the ground running as quickly as possible, it would ease the sadness.

Hope he sticks around until at least the end of the season.

Do you get bored of peddling the same thing over and over again? We get it, you don’t rate/like the player. He scored 18 goals last year. 3rd most in the team? Minutes to goals ratio was really high. I mean if this is your opinion of Cavani I’d love to know what you think about the rest of our squad.

But United play Wolves tomorrow, unless he is injuries again it’s a bit weird to say goodbye on Thursday when United play again in 3 days.

Well said. He scored a lot of goals per minutes last season, with some memorable goals too. Weird to want him out so badly when he's given more than most of our attacking players last season, and unfortunate to have got injured this season.

Not too bothered if he leaves. Top striker but never felt he was one of us, a United player, probably because he hasn’t played anywhere near enough, too old too.
That’s interesting! I think since he’s been here he’s typified what a United forward should be. More so than pretty much all of our other attackers (outside Bruno).

Strange you think that? He was always the most animated when we scored a goal, be it him or others, and he always looked like he fought for the team. Best example was when Greenwood got fouled and he stood up to the player who fouled him straight away. Cant remember who it was or who we were against, but it really stood out as a moment of a player with passion and defence of his teammates.

Much like Ibra and maybe even Sanchez, we got brought him far too late to OT. Would've been a club legend if SAF brought him here.

I think Ronaldo cares (about winning at least)... but I'd like Cavani to stay too as he knows how to make a backline work.

Odd poster name, having "m a n u" in it, especially for someone who's supported United since 79 (or is it 77?)

(Edit. Just realised that even typing it on the Caf changes it.. as it should. Also changes your poster name on the reply but not when you post. Maybe request a change?)

Love his tenacity, the way he celebrates goals. He's a joy to watch and i connect with Cavani more than 95% of our current squad.
