If they have to postpone the game, they should should scrap the second leg and play only one game at the Emirates next week to decide who goes to the final

Not sure why the EFL stuck to two leg semi final given how crunched teams are with postponed games.

Edit: Game is officially postponed, looks the second leg now will be at the Emirates in 2 weeks time

If we fulfill the criteria for postponement, not sure why the home field advantage has to be taken away from us for a situation out of our control. Agreed on the one leg though, which is indeed what should've happened in the first place.

Looks like the players involved in the African Cup of Nations got out just in time. Extremely lucky with the timing of the outbreak.

Or unlucky, would rather they caught it and got it out of the way plus not been able to fly.

Come on now. They are all proud people who take great pride in representing their country, especially in a tournament as important to the continent as the AFCON. All three of them would probably have been devastated if they were unable to attend because of Covid, that's really not something I want to wish upon our players.

Let's instead just hope they got out on time and didn't take the virus with them to Cameroon.

I wish the 3 Liverpool players the best with their recovery from Covid (how small is their squad?)

A bit like when Arsenals games with Brentford, Chelsea and City were postponed because Arsenal had numerous Covid cases, oh... :wenger:

They would have probably still gone but just a bit delayed . It could have impacted on their fitness and form during the tournament though as they would have had less preparation time.

I'm basing it mostly on our poor record at Anfield :wenger:

We have something like 14 cases in the first team squad and have had the youth team's game on Friday postponed as well. The training ground is also closed for the next two days and was also closed yesterday.

Fair enough pal.

Edit, I'd be interested for you to name them. Every website I have checked only shows 3 covid cases at pool.

From a comment on the BBC's Chelsea Spurs match report:

Thankfully the match went ahead as neither team was affected by a severe outbreak of Africa Cup of Nations.

The club hasn't confirmed which players yet. The most recent confirmed ones are Alisson, Matip and Firmino. I think we'll probably find out more tomorrow or Friday about who else has it but I think Adrian, Kelleher and Karius (yes he's still a Liverpool player) do because there's been a lot of talk that we don't have any keepers.

It is a shame that this shadow of suspicion continues.

Liverpool refuses to give numbers and names of infected and sees the games postponed.

Others were forced to play with what they had despite having exposed the long list of infected.

This has happened before and with different teams.

There are things with the clear idea that there are favors for some and contempt for others.

A shame for English football that should be a reference.

Think i agree with the Brentford manager, call the games off this week let everyone get their bubbles reset. At least we'd have proper Christmas schedule then as right now it'll be odd games.

I'm not sure it's really fair if certain teams have their best players out and others don't.
Not all playing on a level field then.

Pep and his assistant Lillo tested positive + 7 first-team players + 12 first-team backroom staff members.

Interesting timing... after they looked ropey against Brentford and Arsenal they suddenly all have it before the Chelsea game?

I know you’re shooting for a conspiracy here but it’s also possible their leggy performances against Brentford/Arsenal could have been down to the very early stages of covid in several members of their squad.

Not conspiracy just anticipating them playing the covid system well, like they did last year around the same time. Remember they were in 6th place, managed to take something like 10 days off which riled up Klopp and then came back and won 15 in a row having been all over the shop previously.

More like 5 days but yeah, the whole of Redcafe decided that won City the title for whatever reason. To be fair, Zinchenko and Foden were already out due to Covid against Arsenal and Rodri missed Brentford and Leicester for the same reason too, it was just never oficially confirmed.

8 days if I check on the calendar, a big advantage in the packed fixture list. That said, Liverpool's implosion had nothing to do with that so I don't think it altered the title race given United were never challenging, it was just very convenient given your form in 2020 was erratic. Let's see if you do try and postpone Chelsea.

Pretty sure Pep's time at City so far has proved conclusively that the packed winter schedule isn't really a problem for him, don't see what the advantage of faking Covid to get that game postponed would have been.

We were unbeaten in 10 and had only lost 1 in 19 so if that's all over the shop then something is going wrong.

We were already improving and I was annoyed it was called off as Everton were missing a few players with injury and suspension so it made no sense to call it off if players were available

Not sure if you're counting non PL games? Your last ten were DWDLWWDDWW or 19 out of 30 points. By all over the shop I should have an asterisk there as that form is erratic for City, not erratic for most clubs trying for top four like us right now.

Chelsea have midweek games now and before their match against City so no idea what they would gain from postponing it because of covid outbreak. But this place likes their City conspiracies.

Their form really turned starting the end of November, which is clear when you consider XG alongside actual results.

In the six league matches before the Everton postponement they had a goal differential of 11-1 and an xg differential of 13.75 - 2.3. They won four and drew two matches, one away against an in-form United when they were the better side, and one against West Brom when they completely dominated and couldn't score the winner. They hit title-winning form in the month prior to the Everton match and just picked up where they left off afterwards.

I appreciate what you're saying but it doesn't detract from the results in that period and the fact City were 6th hence why it's relevant. They could have had an xG of 10 in every single game and just been really unlucky, they'd still be in the same position. That's what seems to rile Pep most about football, that the 'best' team doesn't always win, but also the reason it's such a popular sport because it's not F1 where City have 5PL and a couple of CL minimum under him...at least not yet. Maybe Newcastle will change that.

The Government need to contact Liverpool for advice.

‘‘Covid outbreak’’ a handful of days ago, turns out it was a load of false positives. How convenient.

How the fecking feck is injuries and AFCON participation a genuine consideration for a game being postponed?
