I couldn't give McTominay my man of the match on account of Aston Villa finding it so easy to play through our midfield.
This. The commentary was awful during the match. They were praising McTominay's defensive work towards the end of the match, and I was thinking "what match has this guy been watching?" He's often out of position, easily bypassed, and also regularly fails to close attackers down quickly enough around our box. Basically just always one step behind. He's a big liability defensively.

Agreed. Seems to be carrying the weight of the world and he’d rather be anywhere else than on the pitch.
Very much so, this seems to be more than just bad form. Whatever is troubling him, I hope he is getting help with it.

Poor performance again. Has there ever been less of a new manager bounce than us and Rangnick?!
The only good thing to come of tonight is somehow being in the next round.

My word Lindelof was absolute muck. Poor rashford, in my mind he's so far past even being hammered. That lad has proper issues going on in his head. Needs taken out of the firing line

Spot on. He was good for about 20 minutes in the first half but then went to shit. Passing was so poor in the second half.
He is fine as a squad option but he and Fred shouldn’t be our most reliable starting midfielders.
The team overall was crap again today though, only varane, de Gea and maybe Shaw did ok.

McTom is showing the right attitude, he's been fired up for a few games under this cloud the club is going through. He's also good at getting goals but him and Fred look lost in the middle.

We have a bunch of midfielders that can be good attacking supportive types like Fred, McTom , Donny, Bruno at various levels. Fred would be like more he played at Shakhtar. None have ability to control and defend well. Fred was really exposed when the game was stretched and we had a chance to break, he couldn't really run with the ball, it's more short interchanges his game and harassing closely. he lost out trying to recover against Everton, easily bypassed, just doesn't have the legs to stretch and run. it's like watching an old Rooney struggle to play midfield, he couldn't stretch to tackle move around the middle.

Anyway, this was a very poor game again, Villa deserved much more and dominated the play and passed well to create. We'll be in for a tough time at the weekend. The expected reaction after all the trouble and talk didn't material in my view.

No Ronaldo and still shocking shocker. Don't be fooled by some lower pressure numbers, the whole team is not functioning and Ronaldo was delivering until recently.

Still playing like shite. How can ever play progressive football when our midfield is so poor and Rashford and Greenwood just want to shoot? Ralf should just put in Elanga for Rashford, no question. He did more in a few minutes than Rashford has in the last 6 games. We need 3 in midfield because we just don't have enough in there to control possession. And if our attack never gets the ball there's no point in having that extra attacker. Everything starts with controlling the midfield. Will improve our defense and attack. So obvious it's painful.

What will Rashford tweet this time?

Its pretty obvious, both wolves and villas midfield outnumbered ours and also passed around it. They actually passed to it each other and then moved and got it back rather than just looking for a hopeful through ball all the time or giving back to the defence.

rashford needs to be dropped and he needs to get his head screwed on right so play Elanga...

bruno is struggling so Donny should play ahead of him right now

just not good enough tonight from your star attacking players and there needs to be a bit of a wake up call put on them otherwise we can forget about the top 4

Rubbish yet again but managed to come away with a lucky win this time.

So bored of watching this clueless bunch of clowns who can't even do the basics however.

Its a sad state your club is in when the games are often times so bad to watch that your day is better off without them. I don't always feel this way, but more often than not, I regret spending time to watch us play because I end up bored or on this forum reading/commenting about how crap we are

United will never “control” a game with a midfield of McFred. Talk of adding a DM isn’t going to help with the control aspect either…they need a Carrick/Pirlo type passer in the middle of the pitch.

A win is a win. Honestly, if we won every game from now until the end of the season like that I wouldn't give a feck. I would be happy just to see us win games.

Poor performance, but great in-game management. The VDB substitution killed Villa.

We did decently for a mid-table side as we are now.

I think this whole pressing system we are unsuccessfully trying to implement isn’t working with our players. We may need to revert to a system we played with under Ole with a few choice refinements. RR needs to find a compromise somewhere otherwise these performances will continue.

Across the Universe....from Old Trafford.
We were once again outfought in midfield. We could have used Garner tonight.
We could have strengthened in that position in the summer.
Instead the mutants went for Ronaldo. More money.
If we make one signing this window it has to be a DM position.

On paper we have this great list of strikers.
The only ones who are worth their place on the team are Cavani and Elanga.
Varane and Lindeloff were solid enough at the back.

They would have learned from this match.
Hopefully we have learned from it too.

Rashford and Bruno should not start.
Elanga and Donny should replace them.

Not better than Crystal Palace about on par with Burnley and Norwich. Second half is the worst we've been so far. We just got desparately lucky and that is without Ronaldo.
I very much disagree with all of that, they were worse.
