Something is up. He's been utter shite for 18 months, which, to be fair, can happen to players, but usually when a player is in bad form you can see them working on it, trying to get something going, but nothing really comes off for them.

That's not the case with Rashford though. The body language is all wrong - he doesn't look frustrated, he just looks completely miserable, like he hates football, has given up and would rather be somewhere (anywhere) else. His performance yesterday was the worst I have ever seen from him - this has gone beyond a player having a bit of a sulk - he looks genuinely depressed. I'm actually concerned for him.

Looks like Rashford is getting his hole again we can all rejoice…

And some on here we’re making the split seem like it just happened. The blinders for this player are something else. Unreal.

Looks worse with every view.
I can't even picture a universe where Ronaldo or Cavani aren't breaking their necks trying to pounce on that and get a tap-in. Time fecking stood still.

EDIT: Even fecking van de Beek who starts off about 30 yards away when the keeper spills it is making some kind of effort to follow that in.

We all love United
I don’t like comparing players but Ronaldo would have bust a gut to get to that rebound from Rashford’s position instead of standing still and waving his arms up in sulk to tell everyone at the ground Greenwood is selfish for not passing it to him

The excuses have run dry. I don't think any excuse can be justified at this stage. You cannot come out and post what he did on social media only to turn up to the next game and do not give a crap.

No intensity, no emotion, it seems he isnt even trying anymore. Its a shame, thought he would be good but we are wasting our time with him.

Rashford has two problems, Rashford himself and the Media. He should stop listening to one and start talking to the other.

At this point I don't know if I'm more annoyed with Rashford or the coaching staff who won't drop him completely and tell him to sort himself out. Rangnick must see this stuff if every fan (apart from Rashford fanbois) can.

Honestly the only thing keeping him "safe" right now is his status as local lad and his out of field stuff. Imagine his name is Marcus Rashensinho from Brazil. He would be booed and jeered off all the time because of typical "selfish" "lazy" "low workrate" south american player. Plus the pundit would bash him 24/7 in motd
With how boring Brazilian footballer names are these days, if that was his name his shirt would probably have been 'Marc'

Didn't Ronaldo score a tap in like that this season already?

Thank God I'm not the only one who noticed this. Was shocked when it happened. He didn't even make a try on it. I don't remember the last time I saw a top professional footballer not wanting to try to this degree.

He is showing too much emotion if anything?!

It was clear in his body language and on his face that the indecision that has crept into his game is eating away at him, I believe the issue isn't a lack of effort or laziness, but a mental issue, he made the lung busting run to get on the end of the projected Greenwood pass, yet looked devastated that he didn't receive the ball, leading to the indecision not to challenge the GK.

If it is a mental issue, he needs help, he has shown previously that he is more than good enough to play a part at United, he deserves a bit of respect from the fans and loyalty and assistance from the club.

I think the fans have been loyal and respect him, no other player would be allowed to be off form for this long.

We have just hired a sports psychologist as well. Something needs to be done, IMO he needs to be taken out of the team for a while so he can regain his thoughts and work on the training ground.

The problem is, I don't see it doing any good, he was injured at the start of the season and we all thought we are going to get a hungry, fully fit Rashford.

So I think it may be the case of him losing his desire to play football.

I've less of an issue with his lack of effort to go for the ball, and more with his positioning in the first place. Ronaldo or Cavani are 6 feet closer to the ball because they know where its going to end up if the keeper spills it. Rashford has never had that striker's instinct of where the ball is going to be. The lack of effort can be fixed but at 24 the lack of instinct can't be.

I sincerely hope this isn't the case.

I think he probably does ned a rest, both for his mental and physical health, but it's obvious to me a player like Rashford would want to still put himself in the frame for selection, he would probably see anything ese as letting the team down.

One of the worst performances I have seen from a player, how he stayed on for as long as he did I don’t know.
Not to even try for that rebounded shot is inexcusable.

A couple of other parts that annoyed me were in the first half. Instead of looking for space or making a run when Shaw had the ball he came and pretty much took it off him leaving nobody ahead to pass to now

This has always been true of Rashford, with only a few exceptions.
He has no real poacher instinct inside the penalty area.
He rarely makes runs or positions himself in anticipation of where the ball may end up, particularly around and in the box.
More usually, he ambles forward waiting for the ball to come to him.
Have you ever seen him barge through a crowd of players to try and win a ball or get on the end of something?

......A couple of other parts that annoyed me were in the first half. Instead of looking for space or making a run when Shaw had the ball he came and pretty much took it off him leaving nobody ahead to pass to now
He's been doing that for a few seasons now. It's a regular trait and has me screaming at the TV, when watching at home.

A common example; Shaw starts a run forward, carrying the ball and looking for passing options, but instead of making a forward run or looking to get into space to receive a pass, Rashford either stands still or starts edging back towards our own end, waiting for the ball to come..
He effectively closes down Shaw's options and cancels out our forward movement.
If Shaw passes to him, all the momentum of the attack has now evaporated and the opposition are able to smother any further progress.
In that scenario, it usually ends up with a back pass to the midfield or CB's, or a series of short passes between players, under pressure, often resulting in a loss of possession.

The other regular move, is Shaw passes to Rashford and runs on the overlap, into good space where he can get behind the full back. Usually Rashford ignores him and doesn't make the return pass.
Instead, he either tries to dribble the ball into trouble, or a dead end, or back passes to the CM or CB.
You often wonder why Shaw bothers.

Started the match brightly, but then just got worse as time went on. He was never the most smart/technical in tight spaces, but even his sharpness in acres of space seemed to have deserted him.

It could be that each mistake during the match weighs heavily on his mind since he knows the brutality of the social media "banter" afterwards, and that just sends him into a downward spiral of negativity.

Either way, with the form that he's in, he simply can't be an automatic pick.

That was a shocking moment from him, really.

Make me more ticked off that he spends more time and effort writing essays on social media.

I feel that rebound moment is a bit overrated. He wouldn't have gotten the ball even if he tried his best imo.

What worries me more is that he still strolls around the pitch without any urgency and fight when we don't have the ball. When you are out of form and things aren't going for you the least you can do is to give your all for the team. He is far away from doing that and so it's understandable that the anger of the fans is mounting with every performance.

Btw: Can you imagine today's Rashford scoring the goals in those Europa League and Arsenal debuts? I doubt he would be in the right positions today...That's unbeliveable if you think about it.

It was good to see in the first half he would make an effort to get back if Shaw got caught higher than he was. I was hoping that was a stepping stone to a realisation that he needs to be more of a team player and do the work but it was a bit of a false dawn.

He had two silly moments the first when he was dancing about in the box and never passed to anyone till he realised he had pricked about too long and now all the good passes had gone. Then when he should have been putting that ball across to Greenwood. It all seemed to fall apart from there on out and the cherry on the top was the moment when Greenwood didn’t pass to him and he just turns away and sulks. That’s inexcusable. Even Berbatov would have been following that up. Heck maybe even Martial would have. God knows Cavani, Ronaldo, Ruud and Tevez, Dwight, Yorke and Ole would have and some probably would have left something on the keeper.
I know he’s disappointed the pass never game but that one moment sums up a lot about this United team.

Fingers crossed he finds away to be useful moving forward and not like it would ever happen but honestly wouldn’t be bothered if he was one of the ones wanting out.

Oh come on, any striker with even half a killer instinct would have tried to get there. Even van de Beek bloody ran from 30 yards in to get there! Now he had no chance but tried.

One thing it did show is Rashford should never play centrally. A Cavani or Ronaldo would have been much nearer to the centre, and had more of a drive to get that.

Agree with the rest of your post 100% though. Feels like what Messi does a lot of the game, without the magic when he's on the ball or output.

Still shocking 24 hours later

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more blatant act of discontent, generally going against the team at that point

If I was to say one thing that would be Mason seriously needs to start passing more he’s becoming a right greedy cnut

It's almost like him being an amazing person is now being used against him. Incredible how pathetic some people are. We should be proud of him not slaughtering him for it.

And his form will come back. He's not washed up at 24.

What's your biggest achievement in life mate? You got an MBE? You played for England and United. You scored nearly 100 goals for United? Nah didn't think so.

He's one of our own. We support him. That's our job.
You call some posters pathetic, then you come with this incredible post.

You call some poster out on life achivements because he critizied an pro footballer on an fotball forum?

You seem to take football way to personal. Its not healty.

If Real aren’t interested PSG will be the next logical destination for marketable players running their deals down. I think we should operate in this market too. Use the Bosman market to get the hard working mid 20s players for your team. Lots of experience and almost fully exposed form wise and from a developmental standpoint, they’ve outgrown their last club and obviously we can pay. I don’t mean ex star players like Isco Bale or Dembele More like Kessie and Kamara. Sprinkle with a world class talent or two and you have a team in its prime in a season or two. We need to cut the older lads from the squad at the end of this season with the exception of Ronaldo. I think this could be a cost effective way of doing so.

It's still astonishing to me that people frequently present the excuse that it's fine that he looks like he's had two new legs stitched on yesterday every time he's asked to play wide right as opposed to wide left and that everyone seems to think that this is a perfectly normal thing to happen with a competent, supposedly top-level footballer. Quite apart from last night or social media statements at some point there's going to have to be a time when everyone steps back and accepts that this excuse alone for the last 2 years has been nothing short of absolutely fecking preposterous.

Being played away from their preferred position isn't enough to make a decent player look like Marcus Rashford does when he plays away from their preferred position. It never has been. This isn't even an opinion really. He's either the world's most precocious talent, or he isn't nearly as good as some think he is.

World class if he's played in his one favoured position, against certain types of defenders, if he's 8 months clear of his last injury, isn't expected to defend or track back, hasn't got other things on his mind and isn't looking a bit sad. Other than that anyone who doesn't agree his world class is a muppet.

That's even without getting into the previous 12 months of 'clearly fit enough to make himself available every match, too injured to make an effort'.

These aren't the kind of excuses people make about top level footballers. They're just not. It isn't 'hating' or anything else.

His body language last night was abysmal. To the point I can’t recall a player ever looking so thoroughly disinterested at the club.

His attitude stinks and he’s playing his way out of the club.

I don't understand the mystic megs smugly saying he was always overhyped and acting like they knew something all along that no one else knew. Saying this is just his level, he was never good to begin with etc.

Are these people just pretending his goal involvements in 19/20 & 20/21 didn't happen?

To be honest his “brand” is too big to lose. Could you imagine if he somehow ran his contract down or was sold. I just don’t see anyway that can be done. United can’t afford to lose his “image” even if his football doesn’t match the abilities required.
Can see why they want to lock him down/keep him sorted with a bumper contract.

Seems very much the same why we will give Pogba 400k a week for being a bit of a missort. The club is all about brand and PR value. Laughable they bring this up at this time
