I don't think either of those are a given at all and to add to that I would take anything Moyes was told with a massive pinch of salt. If you are trying to sell a player and want a decent price for him would you say ''Yeah we're desperate to sell him but would you mind paying our inflated valuation for him?''.

There were also quite a number of reports that Lingard himself made it clear to everyone he didn't fancy the move at all.
Don't think we will ever know the truth until one of them come out with a biography years later. But Ole himself did mentioned that he wanted to keep Lingard and even offered a contract for him to stay.

The theory of Ole was blocking the move doesn't make sense. Ole didn't know how to use him for fecking years. What changed even after his excellent loan at West Ham?? Lingard knew that, and Ole knew that. Common sense, guys.
If what Ole did in terms of squad management make sense he would still be our manager. Not just Lingard, what about all those other players that he hoarded and never let go?

Easy to blame Ole rather than say we've no money or for Ole to back up the claim
You mean Moyes couldnt stump up the cash for Lingard and blamed Ole? Ole on many occasions mentioned he wanted to keep Lingard, viewed him as important and even offered a contract despite not playing him. I'm really interested to know what the heck actually happened, was it even Ole's decision to keep so many players, offering them contract and not playing them.

True. There were strange things going on at the Club, we shouldn't use much common sense to measure them.

Unpopular opinion - Jesse would fill in perfectly as a sub across our front line with his high press and energy. Even for Bruno
Only as cover but i suppose we should find a young player to do so

For me it's more to do that this is not a video game.

United players are hardly of interest to anyone and don't give us money for them.

Martial is a decent good player who if was with another club would be of interest - however at our club, he is overpayed and been a dissapointment.

I agree with nobody wanting to pay us good money for some of our players. We may not be able to sell them for good money and we probably mis-use quite a number of them. But if we dont' know how to use them or want to use them and can't sell them, then why do we attempt to extend their contract? This doesnt make any sense to me. I believe our first team squad have loads of good players, Lingard too as proven during his loan spell with West Ham. But good players, great players are all useless if we can't use them or do not wish to use them.

Not his fault the club kept him on longer than he deserves. We should’ve done what Pool did with Solanke and Ibe, cash in and make room for more talented players, whether from our own academy or elsewhere. Too late for regrets now though, just let him go and let the likes of Mejbri and Shoretire take his minutes.

Yeah he might have but probably in a press conference during the transfer window in response to a question about Lingards' future. ''I want to keep him'' really means clubs will have to pay what we're asking for him.

If you go off what has actually happened in terms of playing time vs guff then it's been clear for 2 years Lingard had no future at United under Solskjaer. So I suspect a combination of Lingard wanting to leave on a free and/or United asking too much for him has lead to him still being here.

Well Ole did offer Lingard a contract. But is could be the case as you said. But I don't remember having such issues with the first team under Fergie or even LVG. If they don't want a player, they always manage to ship them out.

Lingard would be no one if it wasn't for our academy. We took him as a kid, we made him the player that he is and we closed an eye or two when his 'issues' (which didn't stop him from humping pillows and selling products with his brand name) drew him away from what it matters ie football. After all that sweat, time and patience he decided to walk on free. That's the thanks we're getting and yet some people keep defending this guy. We accuse the owners of lowering standards but we are to blame as well. We're too sentimental at times as we're so eager to justify/defend those who had clearly disrespected the club.

The club have been handing out contracts to everyone for years to 'preserve value'. I wouldn't look too much into that either to be honest.

And most of the problems with squad mismanagement began under LVG. He sold players for far less than their worth and replaced them with shite on high wages that couldn't be shifted easily. Which lead to the club becoming wary of losing money on players in my opinion.

I would love to see someone work out how much re-signing players to keep on the bench has cost us vs. how much we actually got for them in the end, as I reckon we have lost tens of millions through this strategy under Ed Woodward when you tot up all their wages post-extension, only for them to leave for some shite fee or on a fee anyway.

People seem to be forgetting that before his loan, he looked hopeless for a year and a half. And with his contract running out, he was never going to go for more than 10-20m. So whether he leaves on a free or not is irrelevant, and he has no obligation to accept any offer just so we can get a few extra pennies. Anyone in his position would wait and test the free agency.

Easily mate.

Take Darmian for an example we always seemed to be 12 months behind with his valuation. We wanted £20m+ when he was only worth 10 at best. Then a year later we wanted £15m when we should have been asking for 5. And he eventually left for what was it £1-2m?

LVG's terrible transfers alone probably cost the club hundreds of millions on bang average players we couldn't shift.

The problem is not the valuations , it’s the timing.
Nobody can tell me with a straight face that West Ham wouldn’t have paid £20m for lingard immediately after last season finished.
Just get on the dog & bone and sort it out right away.
We procrastinate until everyone moves on. The iron is hot for players at different times, fecking use it!!!!!

£20m always seemed high to me but maybe, did Jesse really want to go there permanently though?

Most rumours/reports point to him not fancying the move. I also reckon United's interest in Rice probably complicated matters, their optimistically high valuation of £90-100m for Rice could have been a sneaky attempt to basically get Lingard for free.

The way I understood it was that Ole blocked the move. Said lingard was integral to our plans and then never played him.
I’m sure lingard would have moved, big fish in a smaller pond, playing superbly, fans loved him and still in the England set up.
All moot now though as we waste £20m for no reason at all….

Not convinced of that personally there's little evidence for it, Solskjaer going off the last 2 years and how he handled Lingard obviously wanted rid of him.

I think he's still here partly because Lingard didn't want to leave (he wants to leave as a free agent) and the club/Solskjaer made too convincing a case that they didn't want to sell him to try to drive a hard bargain and preserve his value.

Put on the bench vs Newcastle and have him warm up intensively in front of Eddie Howe to persuade him to bid for him.

Convinced that he’s the origin of these leaks. Please get this cheerleader out of our club now. Along with Henderson who has publicly asked for first team football.

Wouldn't be surprised if that's the case either.

I'm starting to actively dislike this guy. He's chosen to sit on his arse for a year after probably his best season ever, now he's posting pictures of himself at West Ham on Instagram. Shameless.

Little West Ham supporting weasel.

He refused to go to West Ham in the summer, yet he posted a photograph of him celebrating after a recent West Ham win. The same West Ham that are competing with us for 4th place.

Please can we just terminate his Contract in January.

Prick.

I’m sure he’s the mole in that dressing room.

Think his heads grown massively after his loan spell at WH and all the praise he got. All adds up to him being a bit of a shite.

On top of it all, he’s never been good enough. We know how this club is desperate to reward academy players but he’s been shite since a purple patch under Jose.

Act now. Good riddance.

Our identity is to grow our own, but blind association with “academy player” ( With all due respect) is causing more harm than good. Forget fighting with state owned clubs, we are spiraling down in terms of relevance. 9 years is more than enough. Lingard is the epitome of this thinking (aka jobs for the boys club) . Fergies biggest mantra was ruthless pragmatism, if a player is not gonna help the club win on the weekend he’s out. Net-net, Lingard can and should be fired just for that insta post alone. If Henderson thinks he can get a regular 1st team (he might be right) let him. But most important point, RR was brought in to ensure clean platform for the next manager, so he needs to start NOW .
