I can't really make an argument without knowing what numbers you are actually referring to.
xG/xGA, xGD, p90, PSxG, PSxGA, p90, big chances, big chances missed, territorial dominance, xG per individual games

Most of that you can find at fbref, for the rest, eh, honestly can't be bothered to track it all down now. Football analytics twitter is your friend :D

I agree with this. Modric and Kroos are phenomenal players and replacing them is going to be very, very difficult. Valverde is decent box to box but I don't see him ever reaching their level. And while Camavinga has a really high ceiling, he's much too young to start taking over from them. The pressure players are under in Madrid is something else.

I don't know if the press talking about Haaland to Madrid has any basis in reality, but if I was Pérez, I'd be looking at investing in a couple of midfielders with that money instead of blowing it all on a striker (I'm assuming that Mbappé will be a Real player when I say this).
Giving Mbappé for signed, i think the midfield isn't a pressing issue at all right now. Wingbacks are the bigger issue

We really should go for a world class RWB, and then either a world class CB(shift Alaba back to LWB) or LWB.

As for midfield, i would explore selling Casemiro, giving Valverde/Camavinga more space and going for a more dynamic playmaker, someone like Milinkovic-Savic for example. We can think about replacing Kroos in 2023. I also like the look of Tchouameni though he's more of Valverde/Camavinga type.

Already taken into account i'll be mad about Pedri for the next decade

@giorno with fantastic takes as always.

I’ve said it before but I think xavi has done well considering the circumstances. We still leave way too much space between our midfield and defense and I’m not crazy about playing such a high line, but if we can find players who can actually finish we can be a decent team and hopefully solidify a top 4 finish. I think prior to his injury Eric Garcia was looking quite good and him and Araujo as a CB pairing should be good.

But as good as Busquets has looked for the NT, we really need to scale him back alongside pique (which is already happening) and Alba (appreciate what he has done for us, but it’s time to move on)

To be fair you do need some experience in the line up , after all you can't send such a young team and expect to see a calm and composed team.

Also pique has been semi decent from what I've seen of him. But yeah I really like what I've seen from youngsters, there are some gems out there.

Real Madrid have higher xG than Barcelona and have scored more goals too. Real Madrid also have higher xGD than Barcelona. So as far as those go, Barcelona do not have better 'underlying numbers.'

Real Madrid have higher xGA than Barcelona while conceding less goals. That's mildly interesting, but Real Madrid have conceded less goals than Barcelona for the past two and a half years; that is a stronger data point than xGA over half a season. Real Madrid are also top of the table, winning most games and wildly outscoring every other team. This probably causes them to concede more goalscoring opportunities, which bumps up their xGA but does not have much meaningful effect on overall performance.

Mh, you're right, the numbers are pretty much the same now. +0.64/+0.66 xGD. So real madrid have caught up in that. Big chances are also more or less the same, in fact pretty much every metric i'm seeing right now is.

We're 17 points clear of them

Real Madrid have higher xGA than Barcelona while conceding less goals. That's mildly interesting
What's more interesting is the Post-Shot numbers. Real Madrid go from 23.3 xGA to 18.9 PSxGA(tied for 4th best) with a PSxGA per SoT of 0.24(2nd best in the league). Conceded 18

Barcelona go from 19.2 xGA(league 3rd best) to 20.9 PS(8th) with 0.35 per SoT which is the worst figure in the league. Conceded 23

I don't have access to data to tell whether these numbers are down to variance or something to do with how the teams defend that the model doesn't capture yet, but i'd lean with the second wrt us from watching our games. We're really good at putting pressure on shots/closing down angles

PS: bonus, funniest stat in the league this season: Jan Oblak, worst goalkeeper in the league and one of the very worst in europe's top 5 leagues  might be single-handedly dragging atleti down in fact, their defensive numbers are otherwise still robust

I was talking to a friend about Nico, and we ended up talking about his dad, who you probably know is Fran.
He gave me a twitter account with good old Depor videos in case anyone is nostalgic

That Deportivo team was a good one. I remember a 3-2 United loss in 2001, and some pretty problematic matches against them in that time period.

Apparently Lopetegui said to Jordán "throw yourself on the ground and act dizzy"

Not watching but seen a clip. Looked like a metal pole. Disgusting.
It was shallow pvc pipe used as a flag pole. That piece of pvc shouldnt even weight more than 100 grams. Of course its unnacceptable that somebody throw anything in to the pitch.

What happend after the incident was also disgusting. Jordan spends 10 minutes running around seeming that he is ok (he even dedicates some gestures to the public), then Lopetegui tells him something and he suddenly feels dizzy and lay in the ground while lopetegui protested to the referee like crazy. It was so obvious that lopetegui wanted to win the game without playing it, or at very list play the game later on to get back some injured players.

Then in the post game talk, Lopetegui has compared talking about his display with saying that a woman has been rapped because she wore a short skirt. Really really disgraceful commentaries from a coach that already showed his lack of morals when he abandoned the Spanish national team just before the world cup to sign with Real Madrid.

Eeeeh. Yeah no doubt he'd give it once he went to the monitor but honestly, i dunno. I wouldn't have given it. Not a wrong call or anything though

No matter. Karim, 2-0, 24 and counting...

He didn't abandon anything, he was sacked.

Then I also found weird and bad taste comparing the situation and allegations made into him with blaming a woman being rapped because of her outfit. :houllier:

Trophy. Trophy?

Apologies @DomesticTadpole better luck next time!
You have better players than us, but that first penalty was all wrong. Congratulations. :)

With us it is how long the older guard can keep going. Glad to see Yuri back as he is a real threat going forward. Looking forward to Nico Williams getting more of a chance. Shame Unai Vencedor got injured just before this tournament. He is looking good.

8 million euros for winning the Supercopa? Not bad after all.
