I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more pathetic positional performance from a central midfielder in my life. Constantly at the wrong place. Constantly giving the ball away. Just tired of these absolute trash midfielders at this club.

Surely Garner would do a better job than this technically deficient headless chicken!

So so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so bad its almost mind-blowing that this man still gets regular starts in our midfield.

Honestly don't think we have ever had a poorer regular starter. His awareness of what's going on around him with and without the ball is non-existant

Another game where we see the pro's and con's of Fred. Wins the ball for our second, sets up Villa's first. He's just that and he'll never be anything else. Still laughable we paid £50m for him.

Back to normal after playing out of his skin in Ralph's first game

Too many poor touches and bad choices for passes when teams constantly press us and he gives then what they want

I'll repeat what I said after his last game, the fanclub of his that developed in December and was hailing him a top player is the strangest thing I've ever seen on the caf.

Fred is a horrendous midfielder, he's pretty much Wan Bissaka as a CM.

Epitomizes why we are a laughing stock. Any opposition midfielder would be loving his name announced on the team sheet. Lost, clueless, pathetic, dogshit, just some of the descriptions best suit him. And all the fans who still support him must have a soft spot for villa, wolves, Newcastle, etc...just fecking do one

Yeah I get that. And I’ve had a go at Ralph for that but even when he was dropping back or trying to make himself available for passes he was constantly standing yards away from where he needed to be . He’s just a very stupid footballer to be honest.

He didn't set them up ffs

You can't blame that first goal on him. He takes the ball off Coutinho who's about to shoot and it falls to their player. Bad luck.

Would you rather he just stood there and watched like everybody else?

Fred isn't the answer for our midfield, think he's had an assist every game he has started under RR. The draw wasn't down to him, I thought the formation was shocking. To play Fred up front to start the press, leaving Matic to hold the fort was absolutely nonsense.....

Varane is closing the space in front of Coutinho. If Varane continues to run he shuts down the shooting opportunity before Fred touches it. So, yes, I'd like to see more awareness from Fred in that situation.

Average player in horrible form. Always seems to come out 2nd best in a tackle. Gave the ball constantly.

He’s his own worst enemy by trying to do everything. to be fair he’s often left to go box to box alone so it’s no wonder he gets overrun and out fought. I thought he did the right thing for their goal, everyone else was ball watching and it’s clearly going to be a shot on target at least. I think it would probably have been a goal either way.

Feel sorry for anyone left in a “midfield” with Matic

Yep, and even when he's a yard or two closer to a loose ball, he still loses out more often than not. He is infuriating to watch.

I can only imagine that Van De Beek is moping around with his hands in his pockets during training. It can't be possible for him to be worse than Fred and Matic.

Do you know Ralph? Fact is, Fred has an asset today.

The fact is Fred is asked to do too damn much. Any individual midfielder would be fecking swamped with the anount of work he has to do. He takes way, way too much criticism on here when he's constantly left out to dry.

Theres plenty to blame him for the first goal. First off in the build up he goes to ground with a slide and gets nowhere near the ball, then he stays down for 2 seconds before trying to get back up and in position to help the team. He casually starts to get back and thats why when he arrives he's behind Coutinho and in a bad position to try and win the ball. He pokes the ball and it goes straight to a Villa player and its a goal for Ramsey

Absolute nonsense, just the usual rhetoric cause we drew......
It seems unlike you, I can actually be objective about his performance. He got turned too easily, don’t what he was doing defending at the half way line, gave away so many balls, was clumsy, one of the only good things he did was the square pass to Bruno.

Put him in an organised pressing team and he’d be absolutely brilliant. Get him pressing midfield alone and this is the risk you take
Put him in a team that gets pressed, and his terrible. Like so many of our player capable in moments, but no consistency, poor touch, poor passing and poor awareness.

How the feck do these players get to Manchester United?!

Its baffling. Absolutely baffling.

There are championship players better then him.
Standards is what it comes down to and we've allowed them to drop massively with inconsistent and average players like Fred.

This guy started all the three Semi Finals of the 19/20 season and was still allowed to be in the heart of the midfield today, the standards we're setting in not replacing and upgrading players like Fred is whats keeping the team in a rut.

I didn't see he takes no blame, I said you can't say he set them up.

We all know Fred is lightweight, unfortunately the whole bloody core of the team is.

Busy and industrious but not good enough if we want to challenge for the league

For the last 15 minutes he just gave the ball away time and time again he should have been off

As i was saying to another poster he has more assists than Greenwood and Rashford combined this season. Very Useful player in a suitable system (such as brazils). The other lads just won’t consistently or can’t put in the required work to beat spirited teams like today. Once Matic tired and started hiding again we lost the game. I really do feel sorry for him. Misused and misunderstood player

I support Utd, not Fred FC just don't subscribe to this narrative of we lose or draw....it's all about Fred. I absolutely guarantee we win the game, you don't post this. The last 15 mins, the midfield was spent. Fred had been asked to press the CB when they had the ball. He didn't give that many balls away, certainly no more than anyone else on the pitch and you sum up your objectivity by saying the only thing he did was to square the pass, to allude it wasn't that much anyway......

so how do you square the constant (constant) giving the ball away and putting the defence under pressure when seconds before we were in attack? please do tell.
