What was Monday if not lucky? Or Norwich?

It’s undeniable the results are no better and the fixtures have been far easier. Rangnick is getting this team nowhere near the finishes Ole did in the last two years, just say it how it is.
Weve ridden luck under Rangnick but we see a system and we see him showing a pair of balls in dropping big names that dont buy into a philosophy.

Thats always going to cause turbulence in performances but the difference is with Ole it was kicking the can down the road, whereas with Rangnick its reshaping the club in the future.

The guy who still does not get how PL works or who has never done anything at big clubs will lay some ground work here?

Well, I mean. I hope it works out.
We have made so mistakes with our managers down the years that for now I am ok with clinging on to the hope that a plan of getting someone who most on here wanted at the club, who is held in high regard by top managers, and who has a clear timeline for what he is doing at the club, is a better idea than we usually come up with.

I don't even think he wanted to be the manager, he just took it for what he can do afterwards, but we are replacing him in the summer, and he is then he is going to be still at the club armed with first hand knoweledge of what is needed to make us better, it has to be a better idea than just chucking it at the best available option at any given time.

A shame Ralf couldn't hit the ground running
Of course he wouldn't. This may surprise many here but after the last match this team reminds me alot of Liverpool in Klopp first season. They tended to play really well for an early period of the game, score then just faded away and got equalized or even lost in the end. Liverpool finished 8th in the PL in Klopp's first season.

I really wish we'd stick with Ralf and let him choose his successor and keep implementing his football. Maybe one day he or his successor will be able to extend what we saw today in the first 25' to the entire 90'. I love the football we played in that 25'. Villa didn't have a single shot in that 25'. So controlled of the game. Of course to keep pressing and play with that intensity in 90' is no easy feat but imo given enough time and the players required eventually we'll get there.

He has not been showing that on the pitch. If he keeps doing that, how can you trust whatever coming from him?

I agree with that.

Truth being told: I am a bit disappointed that the is leaning away so much from the kind of football, you would expect him to play. That isn't a good outlook, I mean, I get it, you have to play with the cards you have and he is doing some good things but on the other hand, he is making some weird decisions. Leaving Matic on when it is visible, that he is done. Asking Fred to continue pressing high up, when you are already under the kosh (again I get it, get a third goal and it is game over and Villa going forward means more opportunities but then it shouldn't have been only Fred. I applaud a bolt decision but this seems halfarsed).

I was under the assumption, that another manager could bring more out of the squad but maybe that was just wrong. I am not laying all the blame on individuals, but bringing in Ronaldo closed a few doors in terms of available playstyles but it seems like it is the whole group who just isn't up for it. Discouraging to say the least. But, I am not sure, if these problems could have been solved by someone else better - I tend to say no. I mean, our midfield is what it is, our fitness levels are what they are, would Conte have been able to turn that particular tide?
The one thing that is clear having RR come in. A manager who has a clear idea of how he would like to play, is that while we have a massive squad, we struggle to field 11 players who can actually play the same style. Outside of park the bus and counter, we are a Hodge Podge of styles, techniques and mentality.

The most worrying thing is that our most high profile players (refuse to call them best) are the ones that move us further from where we would like to be.

Maguire, Bissaka, Fred, Rashford to name a few are players of profile who just shouldn't be here for different reasons.

No we don't. Not that he doesn't try, but some players just can't do it. We are worse.

I think he’s leaving players on the pitch for 90mins on purpose to build up their fitness and conditioning.

I read somwhere, I think the Athletic that OGS never drilled players and really pushed them in training and the stats this season has shown that we are a very lazy team in regards to distance covered and pressing etc..

Perhaps RR has identified his core players and want to get as much minutes under their belts as possible because it clearly looked like our pre season conditioning was shit!

Klopp won multiple titles and cups before that happened to him.

And, we have not exactly playing well in early periods in most games either.

Can't take remember us attacking well at all...was a bit surprised we scored more than one today. We start to press a little better and some people go nuts

I didn't say we should stick with Ralf as a coach. I don't think he's a good coach. His ingame management today imo was terrible. But I do think we should stick with his football. Make him our DoF and get Ten Hag in for example.

No point doing that with players in their 30s. Their fitness won't improve much. It was just bad game management.

I thought the entire point of getting an interim was fighting for top 4?

I don't know how you can discern a system under ralf so far

We have shuffled through at least three systems, wasting quite a few weeks on one that was wholly unsuited to our squad. Today we looked to play with width and press which would have been fine if he had shored up the midfield at around 60 mins but leaving matic on the whole game with little support in midfield just seems like inviting trouble.

He preaches control but then names teams that are the antithesis of that.

I just don't get the sense there is a plan with him for this season, other than throwing shit at the wall and hoping it sticks

I'm not sure how much is safe to read into his ability based on his stint here. I get a strong feeling that the general atmosphere from all players and upper management is that they don't give a feck about this season, so there's not a whole lot any manager can do in this situation. I think him being an interim manager just leads to indifferent performances from all. Whether he's actually any good, who knows. I don't think the players are giving him a fair chance and this season will just drift away pointlessly.

Because he has inherit a group of players who are as much of a team as The Mud Dogs when The Waterboy came. Just give the guy a fecking break Pep wouldn't be capable of doing anything with these fullbacks and Matic at the middle of the park. Our midfield consists of McT and Fred who is probably the worst midfielder to play for Utd ever, absolutely garbage.

I could understand this way of thinking for some of our younger players but not Matic or Cavani.

Bullshit

We came into this season expecting a title challenge after the continual improvement over the last 2 years. Now isn't the time to reset again it's time to get get someone in to take what we have forward

RR is getting a free ride by anyone saying he needs time, he's taking us nowhere
Yeah I share your frustration mate. The board should have replaced Ole so much sooner and got Conte. They were asleep at the wheel though and now we have crashed. The season was already finished when they hired Ralf, was way too late, I refuse to blame the managers anymore.

Why do people think this guy will do well to lead a big club like us? What is his football?

Klopp and Tuchel play fairly different to his. And, there is Pep who had his own system. What is his footballer better than those?

We have a poor squad for his idea of how football should be played, and he is not really a manager?

I knid of wish we'd kept Ole or Carrick and just put him straight into the job he will do from the summer, he'll be damaged goods by the summer at this rate. We are getting slightly better results than we were before he came here, that's about as much as we can expect for now.

Who has he dropped? Ronaldo, Maguire, Rashford were injured today. Easy to drop players when they aren’t available. Also, if you could explain the system you’re seeing? I’ve seen a manager trying multiple formations and no real consistent style of play from game to game.

I’m happy to admit it is always going to be hard to change things quickly, but don’t make things up.

His football is what we saw today in the first 25'. When Matic still had the legs and we had a front three that run and pressed. Why it's so difficult for you to see that I have no idea.

Anyway, it does seem to me that we won't be able to change the other's opinion and tbh I don't give a feck about that either so let's stop here.

We have a poor squad for his idea or his idea is poor for the squad?

Either way, the club won't get rid of half of the squad anytime soon. For someone who will consult us for 2 years, he didn't seem to know much about our transfer dealings (according to his words) or not being trusted to restructure the squad like letting some go and singing some this window. His consultant role probably won't have much of impact which could be a good thing if he is incompetent at this level.

why did we hire him? Give him a break till when? What is he there to do? if there are no expectations, then probably we shouldnt have changed the manager!

All i’ve seen so far is more struggles, weird tactics, constant change in tactics/player selection and poor decisions regarding players like vdb and henderson.

While I agree with patience I can understand people who aren't willing to be. We have been told for years that we need patience for Ole's plan, now we need to be patience to undo the plan... It's a bad joke.

Top 4 is gone. The rest of this season needs to be developing the style of football ensuring it will then be carried through by the next guy in charge.

I do like how players who don't want to be here are getting little playing time, that is sensible and puts the club first.

A shame Ralf couldn't hit the ground running. We took too long to sack Ole but we were still in a decent position. Let's go all out in the FA Cup and UCL.
Yeah I don’t want to patronise people asking for patience. I am only giving patience to the manager because I feel he has been given a terrible handover with this squad. We were last place for almost everything when he took over, running, distance covered etc.

Like you said, the board were playing violins while our ship was sinking this season. They allowed our season to be over by October, they let rival fans ridicule us and rival teams embarrass us. They have given Ralf a mess of overpaid average players that they created but don’t know how to deal with.

As you say, hopefully we can muster up a memorable cup run, we need a trophy desperately to bring back some hope and pride. Fingers and toes crossed!

That's his football? Pressing? What about other function? Game management? Yes, we do need to press more. And, that's nothing unique about it at this point to call it his 'football'. Most modern managers will do that.

Even Ole played us like that for a few first games and talked about like how Man United team need to work harder than the rest.

Pressing requires tons of fitness, which we clearly do not have. Why do you think of good bits of play have only lasted about 30mins?

The knives are out in full force today eh?

I literally cannot wait until ETH comes in and the same shite happens to him, & there’s a bit of learning & bedding in to do and the impatient entitled fecks of the CAF call for his head a month into his 3 year tenure for not playing like prime Barcelona and steam rolling everyone.

Now where’s my magic wand…..

And?

I was asking what his football is? Pressing? Most modern managers will demand that. RR's football is NOTHING unique in that now. Even his pressing could not last for whatever reasons.

The less said about the rest of his football management, the better.

Both, but that doesn't mean what he is trying to do is wrong.

I suppose it depends how you look at things, whilst I'm fully aware our clubs is very poorly run on the football side of things, this is at least something that might have long term benefits for us, as against our usual ideas in times of strife. but the he way you see it then you'd maybe have him out of the club now, and us do what?

It is not wrong. But ideas are ideas. You need to know how to implement them to be successful. Most managers have good ideas. Being competent in installing it at this level is a way different thing.

It's basically Van Gaal part 2 I think. Players know he's only there four months so taking the mick a bit with performances Perhaps he'll win you guys FA cup.

Can also launch top level career of Elanga who did well tonight so may not all be negative in long run.

I have seen enough. He may be great as a director
of football, but as a top manager of a big club he is crap.

Feel free to "give him time" or whatever. Signs are too obvious for me. This is turd and you can't polish the turd. We are fecked. Again

Still feels harsh to criticize him too much given the circumstances (taking over mid season, unhappy squad, minimal time to prepare/instill his philosophy, covid, etc.). The in-game management has not been good but I still want to give him more time before I comment on what he's bringing as a manager.

Rangnick is not responsible for Fred not knowing how to pass a ball, being as easy to brush off as a fallen leaf, and having the first touch of an 8 year-old. RR picked him to play, but what are the other options?

RR failed today with his subs. We could have managed the game better with early subs and getting Fred and Matic and Cavani off the pitch. Leaving them on hurt us. Beyond that, at least RR has a plan, which Ole did not.
