What an absolute baller.

He doesn’t get enough credit, just imagine the attention he would get on here if he was Brazilian or suchlike.

35 yards out, everyone knew he was going to strike it, José Sá in top form - no chance. Stunning goal.

I’d actually really like him at United. He’s a great player.

I mentioned him a few weeks back. Think he'll do well in our shape. Great attitude too.
I must admit though, I did initially think he was younger than he is.

Wanted him at Utd for years. Freekicks and a solid midfielder with a good work ethic.

Seems to be ever present too. Barely misses a game

I think he would be a great addition.

He is underrated. Similar to Becks, people will focus on his freekick/crossing ability, but he is actually a well rounded player. He has different striking techniques as well. Has put in a lot of work for that.

Surely someone gets him in the summer? He’d probably cost a lot being English and at 27 he’s in his prime but his set pieces are special.

Brilliant quality from set plays. Don't think he's a player who's game would interest top clubs but you never know.

Think he'd be dreadful at United. He's not a very good player. Far better where he is IMO.

How is his passing on the field as a CM?

It's a player when younger I wondered if he could have the ability to be our replacement for Carrick or even Cleverley.

The older he got the more I felt that wasn't true due to many not rating him. Now that seems to be changing a teeny bit - so how's his passing?

I'm sure we'd score more goals directly from set pieces.

Never paid close attention to how good he is as a central midfielder, I must say.

Average as feck in open play. Would not improve any top 6 side.

My guess is he'll go to Villa now that they play a Xmas tree formation and he can play on the right and hit crosses.

Spurs I could see too as they could play 5-3-2 and Conte probably fantasizes about winning games 1-0 via a set piece at night.

Yeah, just what this team needs.

Another one trick pony to add to the collection.

Although, it was a hell of a strike that. Lovely.

Is he good at anything else other than set pieces? We had Charlie Adam in the league not too long ago.

I think Spurs is probably his level. Challenging for Europe with hopes of top 4 but not quite there as a player or club.

Just not enough strings to his bow to play at a level much higher. He’s a total specialist in what he can deliver — insane crossing + deadball skills, but other than that, I don’t think he has the general play for a side too much higher than Saints.

He has set-pieces and crossing like Beckham but his ability as midfielder is the same as Cleverley imo.

Same here to be honest. He seems like a neat and tidy midfielder who works hard and has one really elite skill.

I can't say he's ever stood out to me in any major way whenever I watched a Southampton game, which to be fair is almost certainly always when they're playing a top 6 team, so the odds are always stacked against him in those games. His set pieces are ridiculous though.

JWP is not good enough for United, well not good enough for where they want to be at least. A bit like when Liverpool signed Charlie Adam, a wicked set-piece player that quickly went from great to horrible once he swapped clubs. You don’t sign a player for his corners, it’s not like you score 15 league goals because of it. Villa tried to get JWP in the summer and weren’t successful, I’d say that would have been a good move for him - but it stops there.

He's a decent player, not good enough for a team competing for top 4. His free-kicks and set pieces are incredible, but he lacks in other parts of his game. Not massively press resistant, limited creatively, works hard but lacks physicality.

He'd be a good signing for a Leicester/Villa/West Ham.

Another Ruben Neves. Good striker of the ball, so people tend to think he would improve us, when in reality he isn't all that in open play.

So he's fine for us then.

:D - we don’t want to set the dangerous precedent though. Just because quite a few players are good enough to be playing for us right now doesn’t mean we should grab em all

It's amazing how giddy a few clips can make people. JWP is nothing more than an average midfielder in the premier league. His set pieces make him stand out from others at his level. But he's certainly not a midfielder that should warrant a place in a top 4 side.

How much have you watched JWP play? If you think free kicks and set pieces is all he has then i dont think you have watched him that much.. This report is 2 years old, but its spot on. https://www.coachesvoice.com/cv/james-ward-prowse-southampton-ralph-hasenhuttl/
