It's okay, he only scores goals and does nothing else, but when he does something else, people photoshop him out of the goals he participated in
I mean you photshopped Cavani and Martial out of the goal too, didn't you? Cavani needed 10 minutes to have that pivotal moment, so according to your logic should start ahead of Ronaldo in the next game?
Let's not act like he did anything amazing today, our attack was awful for the majority of our game and Ronaldo is a part of that as our striker. We got lucky 3 points, Ronaldo played a part in the goal but so did Cavani and Martial.
He played twice as many minutes and Cavani and Martial together, I won't rave about any decent touch or run he does here and there.

Totally not his system but I have a feeling he'll bang some goals in CL.

If he leaves this summer and United get power striker like Haaland then it's a fair trade.
And if Haaland doesn’t come ?

For me the biggest problem in signing Ronaldo was always it basically pushes Greenwood out wide for another year, when we really needed him developing as a striker as the number of top quality strikers out there really really limited. And Greenwood has the potential to be one of them with time in the position and good coaching.

People still assume this Ronaldo is the same player as the one in Madrid.
No.

Listen to Oles interviews just before and after signing Sancho.
Less inclined to do that considering Ole chased him for 2 years, and then had no idea how to play him.

He is literally the worst of the moaners and sets a terrible example, he also very much seems to have been involved in the leaks. Personally, I don't care how good he once was because he isn't that good anymore. In terms of greenwood not running very much, he still runs and presses way more than Ronaldo
Considering the leaks have been there way before he came here, unlikely.

Greenwood is definitely the future, but his selfishness is so frustating, and he has not shown any indication of being a better CF than Ronaldo. Also I dont buy that he runs more. Considering Ronaldo is playing with the likes of Telles, Fred, McT and Dalot, I'd moan too. Bruno is a moaner too.

Its called having standards.

Nailed it, again. You just left out how emotional they get at any criticism he gets, and the constant need to give him credit even when it isn't warranted.
Why are you pitting yourselves against people on an Internet forum? We won the match just enjoy it lads, or have a kiss.

I am normally for dropping him and using him as the impactful substitute . But he did really well today.

His link up play has been really good and tidy majority of the time, he just isn't getting the service his runs require. He's had Marcelo, Carvajal, Modric, Kroos and Benzema picking him out constantly so his runs are naturally ambitious, this team isn't as gifted at the delivery game and it needs to be (a big ask I know) for him to thrive.

Two managers play him on the right. Maybe he is not exactly a CF material atm or even ever.

Not that worrying when the team creates feck all and no-one else is scoring.
His lack of movement is a big part of the fact that chances are at a premium.

Nobody takes nearly as many shots as he takes (leaving penalties aside) so why would that comparison even matter?

No idea what you're on about. Loved the winner! Hopefully more to come from Rashy :D
Come on mate that last post read like you had a fedora on whist typing it. Loads more to come from Rashford though I agree, I think he’s our most important player if we get him back in form!

Played much better today. Really proving the "low workrate" people wrong, his linkup play was really good too. But starved off chances.

We need some level headed discussion here. This thread seriously lacks it. You make a fair assessment.

As always extremism irks me. It's hardly worth it, as you pointed out, to elevate him to godlike levels because he participated in the goal. Some posters here though, complain he adds nothing, yet in the last two games he was important in 2 goals, and they don't acknowledge that. If people want him to contribute more, and when he does, people forget or erase those moments to keep to their view intact...

First of all we need to make a spot on decision about a new guy in charge. Without proper manager we'll incorporate absolutely no one into the team including Ronnie, Mason or possible new striker.

Think after signing Sancho we can finally scout more and deal directly with a striker spot right after making modifications in midfield.

Greenwood always was option and think we could see something happening on this front.

Surely you're joking  Ronaldo makes the most off the ball runs out of anyone on this team. The other players are just incapable of finding him save Bruno once every blue moon with his million and one attempts.

The irony of typing that first sentence and following it with the second  Why were the same group of players creating and scoring more goals without him in the side just last year?

Cavani just offered more movement and linkup in 10 minutes than he did in 90.

We had that discussion here several teams, so I don't want to run around in circles again. But Ronaldo actually has many more chances than a lot of other players in the league. The last time he was ahead of every City player when those stats were brought up. He also played much more minutes than all of our other attackers, see the last page, so comparing him with other players when he plays all the time while others feels a bit off to me.
He is also imo one of the reasons why we are easier to defend. Just look at the endless useless crosses from us all the time and how we struggle to play through the middle. A striker who is better at holding the ball or playing with the back to the goal would help a lot in playing short combinations or playing through the middle. For all the hard work and overall play people are giving him today, he is still massively struggling with those things and it didn't really lead to anything till the goal?
So stuff like that also goes back to Ronaldo. He obviously isn't the only problem, but he is definitely treated better than everyone else in our attack and that itself is a huge problem.

I think most of that discussion wouldn't even be a thing if the same rules that apply to all our other attacking players would apply to him too. Overall I thought he was ok today. But what people give him praise for today is something that Cavani usually provides much more when he does play and he rots on the bench all the time. That's overall a bit of my problem, the main thing Ronaldo has going for him are his goals. Without them, I struggle to see what he provides ahead of Cavani outside of beeing less injured?

Last year was last year. The same team struggled even in games he didn't play.

Hope he plays against Boro in the FA cup and gets a few goals; also it's champions league time again soon . An in-form goal scoring Ronaldo would take this team up another level now that the defence and midfield have settled.

We looked so fluid without him against Villa home and away...
Did against Villa when we looked more creative without him, and did earlier in the season in multiple matches in which we were leading until he came on. So, yes.

But that's a small sample size, anyways. We have last season as a large sample size.

Worked hard for the team, his team mates missed a lot of his runs and he’s often isolated. Current system isn’t getting the best out of him. Needs someone up with him. A motivated Martial would certainly help him.

You mean he did not pass to Greenwood who could have tapped in and relieved the pressure early on?

Or was it the other way around. No one is holding young players back to score and make good decisions here.

RVN was sold due to some conflicts with SAF. Not because SAF thought he was holding them back.
I mean when a younger, less developed Greenwood was killing it with Martial in the middle. His, deserved, behemoth presence has negatively impacted our players (even Bruno), just like Messi's presence at PSG has.

Look the guy is one of the top 2 players ever in my opinion, but I can't shake the feeling that the team (especially Sancho) would doing better offensively if we never signed him. Its not his fault at all because he came to a team that can't supply him. If he was at City then he'd likely score 60 goals this season but he isn't the right player for us when we aren't at that level. Plus now under Ralf, pressing is impossible to fully achieve in a team, just like it is and would be with current Messi. He isn't the Ronaldo that we once had, he's old now and we shouldn't sacrifice Greenwood's future for him, just like we were right to not sacrifice Ronaldo's future for RVN at the time.

See there's a difference here lads. Even those who have been critical of him have come in here and said he had a good game in terms of general play. Yet here you waltz in with the usual rubbish making yourself look foolish.

Fanboys are bizzare enough but those who hate on our own players with an agenda are a whole different level.

Ronaldo has attempted the second most shots in the league after Salah and has the third most shots on target. He's not exactly starved of chances, he's underperforming in the league

I didn't think he was outstanding or awful, just fine I suppose. Looks to be working hard for the team though.

A much more acceptable performance from him. I still think he's too isolated uptop though.
I would actually like to see him play wide for atleast one game. Just intrigued to see him back in that role again.

I don't buy the argument that Sancho and Greenwood would have been better without Ronaldo.

Sancho was crap way before Ronaldo came in. He was not even used in the English team. I have doubt that he is as good as people see him in the German league. Our history of signings from them would tell you that we should be cautious.

Greenwood was great in that season which was 2 seasons ago. He was more or less like this season last season until pretty late.

Point is that we don't have another striker who can play like the likes of Benzema or Firmino already in the squad. Greenwood has been playing on the right for two managers. As I said, they probably don't see him as a CF for now if ever.

And RVN moved because of Ronaldo or Rooney is as I said a bit of BS. He could have been in that winning team if he didn't piss of SAF. Ronaldo would have developed regardless of RVN being there or not which he was showing constantly with him in the team. It was just that both him and Rooney developed a lot at that stage of their career which is normal and that conceded with RVN leaving.

You would still end up with Martial or Cavani playing at no 9 which is not exactly upgraded to this version of Ronaldo in general. With that being said, I don't advocate for starting Ronaldo all the time.

Number of shots attempted doesn't imply he's been fed well. It's just that Ronaldo loves shooting from wherever and whenever.

You don't have to pull any stats to see if we create enough chances this season or even under RR.

Attempted shots does not mean we are creating tons of chances.

Haaland doesn't want United. Who else of a similar profile could/should we go for in your opinion?
Greenwood FFS. Everyone complains about his selfishness (and that has to improve) but the lad has always been a striker. We have wasted his career so far with him consistently being played everywhere but the position that he showed mercurial talent in in his whole youth career.

Anyone who says it would be a disaster clearly felt the same when we sold RVN or Hughes, Ince and Kanchelkis.

It's simply about time we started taking risks as a club again, like we used to.

For example Diallo should have a squad place ahead of Lingard, Hannibal instead of Mata. This should have happened last year FFS. Think of the wages we would have saved.

Like DVB in midfield, no one can say for sure Mason wouldn't work, up front, because we have simply never tried it. Imagine if Klopp had simply bought a proven RB instead of giving TAA a chance.

XGs do. And they indicate that he's had plenty of chances but that he's underperforming in terms of finishing.
