Greenwood is gone, martial has gone, cavani will go after this season and ronaldo is ancient and will also leave if we don't get into CL.

So on top of not having a midfield, we won't have any forwards either. I bet our board regrets not bidding for julian alvarez from river plate who city signed up on the cheap.

Glazers won't spend a bomb on haaland. Our only realistic option is kane for around 75m and even that might be too much for the glazers.

Remember when people said we had a stacked squad? Seems like a long time ago now.

I also remember only this summer people saying why are we buying or keeping hold of players that won’t be in the first 11. Like we were going to only need 11 players all season.

Depends on who the manager is, I guess.

I mentioned it in another thread but if Ten Hag is hired and we take Haller as an example of how he likes to use his striker them someone like DCL might be of interest. Whereas other managers may not want that type of target man.

In terms of Martial though, he's only gone on loan. As is I would guess he'll be kept around next season.

Martial will get a parade when he comes back from the loan.

Could go Bruno as a false 9 worse comes to worst. Reckon Ralf has already identified numerous options.
Would think Kane would be the opposite type of new signing the regime would go for. But if it’s desperation I do think that’s a better option than a gaping hole there.
But first answer is that Ralf has already identified summer options considering the cr7 question, along with the Cavani question. They clearly were hoping for mason to lead the line but still were expecting Ronaldo and Cavani to go so there’s already options being lined up. Young, quick and pre big wages imo.

No chance, he's only been allowed to go to increase his value. The plan was to sell him in the summer.

I can only see him not being sold if we are not able to sign anyone.

Remember when the caf didn't want us to sign Haaland for £20m because 'a forward is least of our priorities' and 'it would hurt Martial's confidence and feelings'?

We've still got Rashford and Sancho as first choice wingers and Elanga, Mata and maybe Lingard as back up. The squad was bloated for a long time and there was a knock on effect for morale with players unable to get games. Obviously the Greenwood situation wasnt planned for but we've still got enough players imo.

Kieffer Moore is available.
on a more serious note we could very well move for someone like David or Schick. I don’t really think we were locked in on Mason as our starter for next season so this is not the end of the world. We look like we are sticking with a 4-3-3 and we have plenty of wide forwards so we just need a backup to Ronaldo for next year that we can develop or maybe Tony will withdraw his transfer request and we will stand pat and work on other needs.

We’ve got Rashford, Sancho, Elanga and Martial all under contract for next season with Amad and Pellestri in contention for a place.

That’s a very decent forward line. Ronaldo might just stay as he didn’t have many options last season and he won’t have more a year later. We might buy a younger forward sooner than later to develop.

You want us to fall back to mata and lingard ? They're done here.

Sancho is a gamble. Pogba is leaving, matic already can't last more than one half so he'll be of no use next season apart from 15-20 min cameos. We don't have enough quality players.

It’s not about numbers, it’s about quality. You honestly think Elanga, Mata and Lingard is good enough Backup. Oh dear!

I hope Ralf’s scouting knowledge and network unearths some diamond in the rough or a left field choice that isn’t marquee. It feels more exciting watching an unknown or lesser known quantity with curiosity than a well known quantity with expectation.

That's far from a decent forward line

Rashford and Elanga, no gaurentees either way over CR7 and martial could stay after his loan spell if needs be. Realistically with or without the Greenwood situation we were always gonna need a striker in the summer.

Who we go for though? Not sure we will just have to see.

The premise is false. Glazers spend plenty.

Martial and Ronaldo aren't gone permanently. We have plenty of wingers (I'm including Shola and the ones on loan). We'll need a CF and that's about it.

We need to stop thinking about buying players as the ultimate solution to all our problems. We've been doing exactly that for a while now, and it hasn't work.

Isak looks a decent player wouldn’t cost a bomb, maybe Ollie Watkins runs his heart out every match, quite like the look of Daka at Leicester.

We’re kinda fecked anyway in that regard we now need 2 midfielders, a centre back, a right back, a winger and 1 maybe 2 forwards. ffs!

Liverpool won a CL and a PL with Origi the only semi decent backup to their front three. I don't where this idea that it's necessary to have two top players for each position to compete. Does it help? Yes. Is it a deal breaker without which you can't play some decent football and compete? most definitely not!

The greatest team in recent memory started a CL final with Afellay and Bojan as their backup forwards. This obsession over numbers and how many and who needs to be bought and sold is getting us in a weird loop. We are the equivalent of a shopaholic, always thinking the next buy will bring happiness. Of course we need to make squad adjustments every year like everybody else but the burden we are placing on it and how much some of our fans see it as the answer is simply unrealistic.

Isak would be nice, Mbappé obviously even nicer. There are forwards around, we've just got to plan for what style we want to play.

Always a chance another youngster comes through as well of course. I don't think McNeil is all that special for example but it's massively about attitude and confidence not just pure talent, someone like him could step up and score goals under the right circumstances.

I don't want us anywhere near Kane. Not worth it by any means. Our football would turn even more tumescent and I've no idea what he's got left in the tank over a contract.

We're going to have to get creative.

We can still get Haaland tbh. With the Mason situation being what is we can pretty much guarantee him being the main man up front for the next decade.

Ronaldo, Rashford, Cavani, Lingard, Sancho, Elanga. We still have a good selection to choose from to last into the summer.
Recruitment will be more difficult this summer with the WC and the short break.

I don't think that was the problem with signing Haaland to begin with was it?

Haaland is a pipe dream, no way is a superstar looking at a half complete starting 11 and squad and saying yeah I’m going there when they have the choice of any team in the world.

With all due respect the entire OP is loaded with assumptions about the future to inflate the problem in that area of the field.

Losing Ronaldo and Cavani in the summer will force us to find a replacement. I don't think Ronaldo will leave though.

Haaland is worth perusing either way, but maybe the club received a hint that he isn't interested.

I can't remember why I joined this war.
Haaland would be ideal, but probably won't happen, he seems to be set on playing for Real or Barca. I reckon City could tempt him, though.

We'll probably end up with Benzema once he leaves because Haaland is going to Real.

Alternatively, our forward line has had their issues. Martial and greenwood both seem to not have the workrate to match the talent, cavani will be gone and ronaldo maybe. So as with every problem there is a potential opportunity to buy a a set of players that compliment each other. The glazers will be forced to spend, so we should look at this as an opportunity to revamp the strike force.

My guess is Elanga, Martial and Amad are our depth options. We should try and sign some like Isak to be the central player either side of Sancho and Rashford as the main lineup. Or Lautaro Martinez/Patrick Schick as the main striker. Definitely need to spend big on a #9 though.

I don't think there's a lot of goals in that attack

The club is moving lots of players, on big wages, off the books. Buying a class replacement for Greenwood and the squad looks fine for next season - more than fine. If Ronaldo goes, then his money would free up another purchase. Don’t know why the doom and gloom. We are trimming the squad and allowing room to bring in some new players. We should be happy.

Clearly Mbappé is joining United.
