If they get Trippier and Digne, they have a better starting pair of full backs than we do.

They need goals but they are fixing the defence who can't defend in a 4 man defence.

Are they signing any forwards?

We were quoted £50m for him. How had he gone for £12m?
I very much doubt there was any truth in that. He is 31.

But if there was still a deal to be had at these sorts of prices we should have gone for it and sent Dalot on loan. Missed a trick there.

I'm glad he signed for them. He wouldn't have worked out here and he wont have a good stint at Newcastle in my opinion. He's passed it

£12m is an absolute steal for Trippier.

I would've signed him to play on the right wing for his crossing ability, and kept Wan-Bissaka at right-back for his tackling ability.

It would have sured up our right side, and provided more service for the likes of Ronaldo and Cavani to score more headed goals.

I hope we don't regret it as he was decent enough in their title winning campaign.

A quality player - in about 10 years when they win the league each season he'll be the answer to a quiz question.

I don't think he would've been a good signing for us. He's the reverse of AWB - good going forward, not so great in defence. He's good as a wing-back, poor as a right-back. But £12M is still a really good deal for Newcastle.

Comes across as a top bloke though. I really like the way he speaks.

£12M.

Why didn't we even attempt to sign him 2nd time round. Ugh.

Yeah, I really think (always thought) that was a missed opportunity on our part.

We needed a more attacking RB option. A CL/International class English RB becomes available for just £12m, whose best attributes are exactly what we needed. How often does that happen? I really don't know why we didn't take advantage of the opportunity.

He's only 31. He'd have been fine for 3 years or so in that role. So it's not as if his age should be an issue. Not for that price. And not when we've been happy enough to bring in the likes of Ibrahimovic, Ighalo, Cavani, Ronaldo as short term fixes in recent years.

If Ole were to stay, I think we would have gone back for him. However, with our new direction, signing him is not worth it. In short term it doesn't even guarantee nothing. He would improve our RB for now, but our chances to make top 4 is low. At his age, soon we would have to get a younger permanent RB anyways. Dalot maybe below the required standard for long term purpose, but he's serviceable for now.

Ole was trying for quick fix for his trophy drought without a long term vision for style. Signing Trippier to complete the team only makes sense then.

He was instrumental in their having scored from a corner. He actually got the kick past the first man. Meanwhile, United have resorted to short-corners after having failed repeatedly to deliver a corner to a United player past the first defender. He will be a miss for United.

We have been turning proficient corner takers into the mess we have now. It's not individual ability any more. There is something wrong with our set piece taking training.
