Stellar quote.

To be fair he’s not wrong, although I’m sure someone will find a way to get upset at this quote. It is very weird to spend half a season with an interim manager with no idea as to what happens afterwards.
Yes. I think he means the players don’t know if the new manager will want to keep them or what will happen long term. Job security and all that. All they can do is play each game as it comes and work day to day.

Probably the wrong time to say this in a interview, just as we’re picking up form and fighting for top 4 and champions league.

Just do your talking on the pitch right now. No more bad press or drama! :nervous:

He stated a fact that's also relatable for a basic office job, by the way. But Man United fans being #2022 whiny bitches will always try to get upset at something.

Goldsmith is having another rage over Fred’s comment but there’s really not much to it. Of course it would be ideal to be playing for a permanent instead of an interim manager, but under the present circumstances the board did exactly the right thing by appointing an interim manager. We’ll appoint a permanent manager at the end of the season, which is entirely appropriate.

Thought it was poor choice of words from Fred to say that. Don’t disagree with him but it’s probably something that should be kept behind the scenes.

Fred has been playing much better in Rangnick system too so its even more surprising that he would make a comment like that.

Fred is 2020s Park Ji Sung reincarnation. Lacks Korean’s football IQ; technique is erratic, but offers the Park level of reliability in heated situations. Special task. Big game player. Valuable member of the squad.

no. A basic office job? He’s getting paid 1000s to play, literally earning millions a year, it’s not even close to being relatable. Just get your head down and play when the team needs you.Give everything on the pitch and don’t give the media and press anymore reasons to talk of rifts and discontentment. It’s not the time for that.

upset is the wrong word. Not upset, just sick of the constant stories of unrest. We know it’s not ideal, we know it. This is the time we just need to play and back ralf. Not talk to TMZ about the situation being strange and not good etc etc.

Thought Fred was alright today and pretty solid. 6/10 for me.

88% pass accuracy (58 passes), so safe with the ball. 1 key pass. Played a pretty important part of our goal to get it to Fernandes.

3 tackles. Wasn't dispossessed. He was pretty solid for playing out of position, but impacted our attacking play once he moved up the pitch. Thought we were much better with him and Matic on.

One of the few who did decently throughout IMO. He's not a DM but had to do it with no McTominay, and he did ok.

Thrown to the wolves by Rangnick in fairness. Fred didn’t want to be there on his own and Rangnick didn’t want him there either in truth. McTominay’s injury clearly forced his hand.

All of the things Fred is good at (see the goal) happens in the opposition half. As soon as he moved forward, both he and the rest of the team looked better.

Again probably the only actual midfielder we have (excluding Matic). Everyone else is some weird hybrid of other positions (Pogba - AM / wide player, Mctominay b2b striker, Bruno an AM).

One of our best players today, he was the one who initiated the play for the equalizer if I'm not mistaken.

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time
He struggled for the first 65 minutes and we saw all the reasons he doesn't suit playing as the 6 (Atletico regularly ran around him), but the instant Matic came on and Fred pushed into a more advanced role he and the team as a whole looked so much better (Matic himself played a big part in that as well as he had a good 30 minutes).

Let me put it this way, I admire courage to make him DM behind Pogba against Atletico Madryt in Champions League knock out stage. He did his best #6 impression, but our midfield was much improved when he moved to #8 with Matic behind.

Can’t play as a #6 and shouldn’t. He’s better further up the park.

Yup. Agree with all of that. Amazing the difference a proper 6 makes to our team.

Yup I agree. He was really bad in the first half but anyone playing in a two with Pogba is actually playing in a one. Madrid are far too experienced an outfit to not try and get a foot hold in the midfield. Better when Matic came in even though I dislike seeing him play for us at this stage

Not anchor defensive midfielder. Round peg square hole. Will give him benefit of doubt for his awful positioning, no physical presence.

Still there is no denying he's individually very bad. Passing, first touch is poor, and no composure when being pressed. Weak physically when competing for 50/50.

Matic is unreliable now that his age causes decline to his consistency, yet he was able to bring an eye catching improvement on the level of calmness, composure, and the easiness for everyone to find a pass to #6 position. This shows how terrible our #6 position is at the moment.

Thought he was bad as a 6, much better as an 8. Matic is more natural as the deepest CM.
Yes, not great, but like Mctominay, he's not a defensive minded player at all. Thought he was our best midfielder tonight though and although not a perfect performance, he put in a hard graft, and looked better when Matic came on.

Haters will hate but yet again and not the first time this season, significantly had an influence in another goal. Not bad for a player who can’t pass, shoot or control the ball.

He's really poor in a pivot; so putting him as the sole midfielder with the sloppy and lethargic Pogba and wasteful Fernandes ahead of him was a recipe for disaster.

That said he gave the best account of himself that could be reasonably expected in the circumstances and I'm sure was thanking Christ when Matic came on.

Over the last few years, everyone should know none of our players can play with Pogba in a dual-pivot. Criticizing anyone partnering Pogba in that role is extremely foolish.

Actually Fred is more comfortable with a player who covers for him. He will be better for us when we get a DM to play alongside him.

I like that he can turn his game around from having a bad start. It's something to credit him for when he have a number who start slow and then just collapse.

If he'd played in a 3, more advanced, with more on the ball quality around him, you'd probably call that a decent enough performance.
