I like Gravenberch, but I’d still rather more of a facilitator in midfield rather than a central midfielder who is supposed to offer ‘impact’. Just give me a technician who can get it and give it quickly, under pressure, and evade those who are trying to press. Get the team moving better and quicker. Culturally, United have a bit of a fixation with ‘match winners’ and we’re always searching for some sort of hero. Let’s take the time to build a team first and foremost please.

Give me FDJ, Arthur or a player in that mould who can post 4 goals in a season and still be considered a good football player.
I feel like that's almost like the most basic of needs for us to get anywhere. I mean have we really had one since the heyday of Scholes? Sad.

Why would he develop at United, when he hasn't improved at all at Ajax playing week in and week out? It's not like he's outgrown the team. I think it'd be harder for him at United with less consistent game time and more pressure. If he doesn't develop you bought a dud, cause he won't be cheap.
Might need a new environment? Who knows, doesn't always have to be linear. It will certainly depend on who the next manager is and how he sets up our midfield, on your point about game time. I also thought his contract was expiring, hence the link? I thought he'd be another one who we could get for a relatively decent price.

Wonder how many people here are just FIFA fans wanting to sign him because of his potential in the game.

He is clearly very talented but simply doesn't seem ready yet for the jump to a big club. That is hardly a criticism, given that he is only 19 and few players are ready for that kind of move at that point. He should either stay at Ajax or do a slight jump that challenges him in new ways but doesn't put him in the pressure cooker of a club like United or Real Madrid, kind of like when Tielemans moved to Monaco.

Very likely that Gravenberch is losing his spot to Steven Berghuis (who dropped from #10 to #8 when Gravenberch was absent due to illness, with Klaassen coming back at #10). Berghuis has been an absolute joy to watch and was brilliant the couple of games he played at #8.

Yeah he's been amazing. Really chuffed for him. I just hope Van Gaal will stop being his annoying stubborn self and put him in midfield at the national team. God knows we could use the creativity there and surely you can put Bergwijn, Danjuma, Lang or Gakpo on the right with some success.

I'd love that... The more I see of him, the more I want him to get the ball in earlier stages in stead of being an attacker who needs to be served to some extent.. Who would have guessed one year ago Id feel this way about Steven Berghuis...

Everything is pointing towards Bayernml Munchen signing him for around 25-30 million. Seems like quite a poor decision from him, he will barely get minutes.

Would be a very strange move for him. Why is he not signing a new deal by the way? He's definitely not done learning at Ajax. He's been underwhelming for a while now hasnt he?

Raiola

He has been decent this year, not that good, but certainly not as bad a some people want him to be.

Ah right, that explain it.

I dunno, I'm a big fan of him, but this year he seems a bit meh.

Raiola and probably support systen telling him he's that good.

Is Kimmich a bit fecked or something after the lung damage? I can't understand why Bayern would want to spend big money on him if not.

Seems to have lost his a starting spot to Klaassen who in turn was moved back a bit to make room for Berghuis.

No, he’s just an idiot. We simply need more depth in midfield.

He's been called up for the U21s instead of the senior NT.

Jordy fecking Clasie might receive a call up ahead of him.

No way in hell Clasie will make the final cut. I think it's a message from Van Gaal that he should do better and not think he's ready for a move abroad honestly.

Clasie though

He's kind of anonymous for large parts of the game when I do watch Ajax. Good size and skill, but don't know that he really suits our needs unless.

Makes sense though, he has the quality but still is a youth player in some areas, because he's still only 19. He can play extremely well, but when he end up in the final third it will most likely won't be good

Really overhyped, no? Most Ajax fans and Eredivisie viewers don’t seem to think he’s all that. We shouldn’t go near him with Raiola as his agent too. Bet he becomes top class at Bayern though :D

Had no idea the fat man was his agent. Not that we had a chance but glad he's not joining us, we'll finally be rid of Raiola this summer hopefully.

If I'm not mistaken, he would be the first Raiola client we ever sign (I believe van Bommel switched to Raiola after he was already a Bayern player). And I'm not going to lie, I'm wary of the fact that Raiola successfully overhypes his clients, meaning the chance we pay too much for him both in wages and fee, compared to his actual current quality, is surely very high.
While regarding his possible future 'potential', if the kid performs and develops into a player justifying the hype, we'll have a never ending circus on top, regarding possible transfers and contract extensions with Raiola.
I don't like it. Wish we'd stay away. Or if it must be a Raiola client, Mazraoui who can help us immediately.

Serious,
How can you not think that this is a steal?
15million euros up front with a possibility of 10mill more, that's a bargain any day of the week for a player who is already experienced at such a young age.

Thanks. First of all, if a transfer happens it will probably be more than this offer of ours, and as for the bolded:
To be completely honest, since I don't know the player at all, I rely on the expertise of our Dutch posters on here and they firmly seem to be of the opinion that he's not ready for such a move. Now you can argue, if he's not ready for the move any transfer fee would be too big, but a transfer above, say, 20-25m €, adds a lot of expectations to the mix which I anticipate him not being to fulfill, already because he quite possible won't get very much playing time in the first place.

I think you are too used to poaching players on a free for cheap ha. That's a good deal.

20m euros brings a lot of expectations? Damn I wish I was a bayern fan if so ha. 20m euros gets you a championship player atm

I'm just burned from the Renato transfer.

As for the last bit - that's strange, we get Championship players for free too :D

If he doesn't get much playing time then the transfer fee is 15m Euros as I am sure the add ons won't have been met, in which case that isn't a huge amount of money amortised over several years, obviously assuming this transfer happens.

Whereas if he meets the add on targets, you have yourself a steal as he would have produced good performances!

What has he done so far to justify a higher fee? He's a 19yr old lad with 1 year left on his contract who plays Eredivisie.

I mean you could argue nothing, but it's just not the way the transfer market - in terms of fees - has been working in recent years. To the point that a lot of us are saying it looks like a bargain, a standard player goes for between 30-50million these days

Above 30m € would constitute an all time top 10 transfer fee for Bayern. This is not the Premier League.
