Rashford considering his future...

Has been discussed in the Player Performance thread but felt worthy of its own thread.

For me this is an incredibly sad story of a good player who was promoted above his talent after his sparkling start with United. The state of the club at the time meant they needed (ideally an academy graduate) to hang their hat on and he came along at the perfect time for them. In more stable times he would have had his breakout, calmed down, and then be loaned out for a year or two to develop further and come back a more rounded player.

But the club needed him so he stayed. Many of us throughout the time questioned the sporadic nature of his form, asking if he really was the next big thing or a flash in the proverbial pan (remember the Rashford vs Mbappe debates?). I feel, defending him, that he has been hugely let down by the last manager. In various acts of desperation he was called upon for ridiculous amounts of football whilst injured. However I do also believe that he has to take a fair share of personal responsibility here. Yes he's been injured, yes he'd been played in to the ground, but that doesn't excuse the regularity with which his people go to the media to whinge and moan about all sorts of issues.

The tweet above is just the latest example of the issues with modern players, who potentially believe they're better than they actually are. He's scored 5 goals so far this season, he doesn't press or race back to defend like his manager wants, so what does he do when the manager drops him? Does he look internally and ask what he needs to do to get back in the team, does he change attitude or style of play, or work harder to make the point to the manager when he comes on as a 65th minute sub? NO! He starts walking around the pitch with his hands on his hips after 10mins, then runs to the press talking about how he might need to go somewhere he's guaranteed first team football!

I think it's another example of the thin skin attitude which is the true cancer within our dressing room. What are your thoughts?

I don't think many clubs would want him given his form over the last year and definitely not at the wages we're paying him.

Maybe for the best. Think a new challenge would do him well.
Can see him go abroad.

Cash in while he still has some value if true. Not sure who would want him though.

His decline has been massive, if you don't want to graft Marcus, see you later son.

Good players are always of interest to clubs, irrespective of some form. Previous to this season he scored 20 goals in consecutive campaigns so he'll attract interest.
I do agree that his wages could be a issue though.

Good. If he wants to leave, let him. He’s been utter crap for two seasons now, it’s not a blip in form anymore. If he’s honestly expecting more game time after the shit he has served this season, he’s delusional.

His actual value maybe around 50 mil but we should charge English tax for him. 80 mil at least.

He really should have thought about the timing after coming on in a massive Derby loss and being not in very good form for the last year or so. Did he think he would win support from people?

Let's hope the club are not fecking idiots on this. The proposed avenues should be:
- Stay here until your contract expires , if you play well, we'll make you an offer
- If you want to leave, go ahead.

I hope for the love of god they don't offer him an new contract.

I think he needs to move on. He's not as good as he thinks he is.

Having a bad run of form for a while but from a young age he was better for us in his favoured position than Martial or Depay so I don’t know where you get this loan stuff from?
I wouldn’t pay too much attention to a post that has ‘source close to Man Utd forward tell me’ in it

You can imagine the conversations the likes of him and Lingard must be having.

Honestly the season is a write off so I'd rather drop some of these lads and make a public statement that lack of effort won't be excused. We've a few youngsters who will at least provide effort and fight.

Nobody is going to buy him on his wages as he has been completely shite for a full season and a bit now. Non-story really.

This is obviously a ploy to get a new contract off the club, and the ridiculous thing is, that despite his shocking form, he'll get one.

The story is that things are awful in that dressing room now. If he wants to leave because he's unhappy playing as little as he does despite performing so badly then something is really up. I do wonder though how much the Ronaldo signing has put the noses of some out of place

His future as a Manchester United player? Or as a footballer in general? Could be either.

This marks him out as one to be sold. Putting this story out there now shows his mentality. It's all about him, nothing about the club, and there's no hint he acknowledges his poor performance and effort levels. We need to get these players out unfortunately, even the ones who have been here since kids.

From a football perspective - goodbye.

He's lost absolutely everything he had which saw him burst onto the scene.

Looks physically shot - and if the club take the bait and offer him a contract extension they're more foolish than we think they are.

Rashford will go down in football terms as another player who was overloaded with expectation and given everything in the world at such a young age, and whilst he's used his platform to good effect he's simply so far removed from everything that made him brilliant.

We have plenty of talent in the ranks capable of producing what he offers in 2022.

If he doesn’t leave this summer then he will either leave on a free transfer in 2024 or we end up giving him a new contract.

Yeah, I agree. The club won’t let MBE youth academy star go, so we’ll relent and sign a new deal. The likes of Gary Neville won’t help harping on about him on SSN either… some of the stuff he was saying last night was like, have you even been watching the guy play for the last year?!

Maybe it should be the club considering his future and not Rashford himself but we all know the club prefers marketability rather than performance so that's out the window.

Genuine question for those who spend more time in the transfer rumours thread, has Romano’s star fallen somewhat?

I don’t remember him doing these kinds of nothing articles before - the only reason journos do these ‘source tells me big name player is considering future after getting dropped’ is because it’s so obvious (as in which player wouldn’t be thinking of a move if they end up outside of the first XI?) and taps into the emotional fan base who will give them a lot of shares, retweets and clicks.

I’d hazard a guess and say almost every United player is waiting to see who the new manager is and if we get CL football before considering their options.

Nobody should be guaranteed a starting place. Perform or you go on the bench until that replacement doesn’t perform/you impress from the bench. It’s pretty simple.
Send this to him and let him know we play those who train and play well. We're done with rewarding mediocre, unmotivated players

Surely this will turn the tide for a lot of people? The mental health concern speculation seem like a cop out from fans who refuse to believe what‘s really happening.

His form is shocking. He still hasn’t ironed out the creases in his game. He looks worse post-surgery and worst of all, his attitude is horrendous. He looks like someone who doesn’t give a feck.

Maybe there is a god. If we can con anyone into paying so much as £20m for him we should take the money and run.

I needed a good laugh. Rashford for £80m after the year he's had on the pitch? Sure.

What next, Haaland and Bellingham to United in the summer?

More likely he will go down as another player who got too much money and fame too early and got bored with football. He does a lot of charity, which is great, but from a football perspective it has been going down only for too long

He was always a bit of an aggregator, now he just has his fingers surface-level in every pie. I don’t think I’ve seen him actually break anything important in a while. He’ll just rehash things a few hours later after someone more reliable says something.

But what you said is true - he’s got the dopamine rush for the interactions now. I mean he fecking livestreams himself on Twitch playing FIFA now.

He had a long spell with fairly underwhelming form, but we all gave him allowance that it was about his gameness at playing through that bad injury.
But that seems behind him and the form and attitude more worryingly are way off.

Who can forget that incident a few games back where he didn't even bother attempting to follow up a shot, and then it spilled out where he could have had an easy tap in.

No-one better than us will be interested, and very few worse than us can trouser up 200k or so a week.

So will it be another of these dreadful sell for minimum money and make up the wages jobs?

Players, their agents or PR camp putting out this stuff should be stamped on by the club.
It’s worst if this turns out to be a ploy to get a new contract.
Rashford should now be near the top of the “for sale“ list.
Give him his bus fare and tell him to start looking for another club.
Utd are wasting £10.4 million a year in wages, on keeping this lad hanging around.
If we could get £20m for him, we’re quids in.
