What an absolute shithole of a club and also the state of some of their players.

Anger management therapy is what they need

Probably the first time in a decade someone has given Atletico a taste of their own medicine and they had a complete mental breakdown. Hilarious bunch of barbarians.

The start of his peak years and up to now, he's won league titles and made it to CL finals. And that time period has neatly coincidences with our obvious fall from the top. Yet, people don't and didn't want him here.

This. Twice as defensive as Mou's Inter and twice as boring to watch.

Yes, they’re a horrible team to watch and must be even worse to play against. I’d hate to have Simeone here for that reason. I want us to win, but to win by playing great football. We’ve seen some great matches in the CL recently, and it’s really painful to know, and to be forced to acknowledge, that we’re nowhere near at the minute. But I’m feeling hopeful for the first time in ages, just a little bit, at the prospect of Ten Hag arriving and a new season, after the absolute shitshow of this godawful year. I would not feel this way if we had Simeone coming.
Completely agree.

Honestly though...the way they play and have played under Simone...really is win by whatever means necessary (embarrassing or otherwise). Not a great legacy ie. you would think that a manager who smashed the status quo in Spain would be remembered more favourably. He won’t though. His name will forever be mentioned in the same sentence as ‘shithouse’. At least Mourinho had a period where he was a breath of fresh air in football...he moved the game forward with his detail and his obsessive focus and demand for effort and concentration. Simone just inspires his players to scrap really well.

They were utterly shite against us. just had to say that again. I don’t want to win at all costs...it’s ok as a last resort but when it’s you actual game plan? Athletico are an awful team to aspire to be like. So no- I would never like Simone here.

They are a complete embarrassment of a team, the absolute antithesis of football.

Of course Atletico are playing like nasty feckers and Simeone is encouraging that. Yet, people forget that they don't even have half the budget of City and frequently lose their best players. Just in the last three seasons they lost 5 starters, while maintaining balanced transfer spending: Griezmann, Hernandez, Rodri, Partey and Trippier.
The fact that this was a contest at all, shows how good he is. Expectations are just way off in regards to Atletico. The embarrassing part is not, that they do that against City in the CL, but that they play the same way against bottom sides in la liga.
United are in a very different situation and shouldn't need someone like Simeone to compete with the top clubs in the world.

They spend a lot of money as well.

Simeone would be a fan favourite at this club if he were manager. I'm certain of it. There's just something about him to fight and never give up.

It's all gone a bit soft these days.

My problem with Simeone as a manager of my football club is it's boring to watch this siege mentality type style week in week out. I'm sure he can adapt to opposition and his club but there's no doubt he's safety first. That would concern me way more than some of the antics.

I wouldn't want him at Chelsea, but I absolutely love him.
I'd want him at Chelsea purely to see the return of Cnuty Chelsea. Cnuty Chelsea were entertaining and are badly needed in this current era where Pep and Klopp sip tea with one another and "argue" over who gets to call the other one brilliant this week.

If his antics came alongside aggressive attacking football like we saw in the second half, yeah, I would agree with you. However, his football is unwatchable most of the time. The OT crowd would lose patience.

Simeone is the new Mourinho.
The main problem with the Mourinho we got was him always throwing his own players under the bus and creating a toxic environment. If Simeone doesnt do that part, but gets us coming 2nd even when we're not the 2nd best club and arent playing very good football its still a step forward.

He isnt however the answer to us finding a Klopp or Guardiola where you get both exciting football and win things

I bet he would be better for us than Ten Hag in the short term. He would make this team fight like hell, and may be more ruthless in terms of which players he wants in the club. He would demand a lot of respect and discipline right away.

In the long run though, I still believe Ten Hag will turn out the better choice. That is, if we give him free hands in every part of the sporting department. Hopefully he can be the guy who builds a sustainable fundament here.

I don’t agree with that at all. I have heard Simeone several times come out with this bullshit - ‘were just little old Athletico, how else do we compete?’ doing his best Sam Allardyce impression whilst spending £120 million on a single player.

Simeone is the new Mourinho.
Mourinho was charismatic and charming.

Everyone liked Mourinho as a character. He was the cocky, lovable pantomime figure.

Simeone is just barbaric and still boring somehow. The Football Prime Mourinho's teams played blow Simeone's Football out of the water.

its not bullshit at all. They literally have about half the money of the official ManCity budget. When you earn over 300million because other teams buy your first team players, you are going to re-invest some of this in highly inflated conditions. They essentially swapped Griezmann for João Félix and that was a massive downgrade. City can literarily buy any Atletico player they like, but only picked one so far because they other players wouldn't get in their team. They have less money than Tottenham. Tottenham could reject 100m for Kane, despite him wanting to leave. Thats a luxus, that Atletico doesn't have.

Nobody is saying that they are a small club. They are a big club, but the difference between the top 6-8 spenders and the clubs that follow is massive. Their goal is to not role over against these teams and part of their strategy is to particularly nasty. It works.

I don't get why people are up in arms over this.

"Disgraceful" "ugly football" "not how football should be played" - give me a fecking break lads!

I love the fact that he's a nutter, I love his passion, his shithouserry. Sure, it sucks when he and his team are doing it against you but so what, deal with it. Not every manager is a pep or a Klopp, getting their teams to play beautiful football. Everyone is different, this is just human nature and we should embrace this difference. Yesterday's shithouserry was a welcome change to city Liverpool lovey dovey kissy kissy ohhhh we're so good lets hug it out.

High horses seem to be in short supply this morning.

Brilliant entertainment last night, only flipped it on with about 10 minutes to go.

The atmosphere was electric, stadium bouncing, a proper cup game.

Atletico's behaviour last night was absolutely appalling. How on earth Stefan Savic remained on the field of play I will never know, but you sense that the ref was almost cowed into giving him a yellow card.

As a manager, Simeone does possess a kind of rare genius because not many can instil that level of team spirit. In its own rather despicable way, it's admirable for what it is and does make for some absorbing encounters.

If he were at United though, I doubt he'd have anything like the same success. Atletico have always punched above their weight and had an underdog mentality - that just doesn't gel with the culture of this club. Fans wouldn't settle for seeing the team grind out the 1-0s.

Still amazed that Gary Neville thought he'd be an ideal manager for us. The man is the biggest shithouse in football, and his team play the most tumescent football I've seen at the top level. Yes its evidently effective, but feck me would I hate watching us play like that.
