We don't have an aggressive CB who will go for the challenges. Maguire is bad on 1-1 , Lindelof and Varane isn't that aggressive. A fit Bailly would be perfect.

Salisu, Kilman would be perfect left footers from EPL.

Isn't Timber also an aggressive type?

Timber - CB, RB (20 yrs old)
Gvardiol - CB, LB (20 yrs old)

Perfect. Just sign these two, and our defence would be sorted for years.

I think Timber might be too short for a CB in the Premiership. Look how Ake has been caught out since moving to city.
Both Liverpool CBs Konate and Van Dyke are monsters. They add important goals from set pieces and corners also.

Every time I watch Gvrdiol play he always seems to be unreal but he would cost an absolute fortune I'd say, unless Rangnick has some discount codes.

Don't know, but we should sell Bailly and/or Jones in the summer, and bring in someone with enough quality to send Maguire to the bench. Varane + Rudiger level signing, with Lindelof and Maguire as bench options would look decent.

You guys think Gvardiol would come to us despite his die hard Liverpool fan background? Would love to see him here.

Tapsoba vs Gvardiol in tonight's Bundesliga match. Two of the biggest centre-back talents.

Tapsoba had the more impressive half so far...dull game though.

He'd be a good developmental type signing. He definitely has potential, and I've only ever seen him at youth level but he did look a very good CB prospect.

He's 6'4, left footed, surprisingly athletic and passes the ball very well, along with being good at bringing the ball out of defence.

Doesn't he have some clause where Chelsea have first refusal if they match the bid?... if rudiger goes and with silva being 38 next season plus azpi and christensen available on a free there has to be a very good chance he ends up back at Chelsea
No clause according to The Telegraph yesterday, Chelsea have however asked to be told if a bid is received at any point.

Just get Pau Torres and be done with it. I want this dreadful defence sorted.

I'm expecting us to go for Salisu or Nathan Collins as a young project CB this summer or next. Obviously I'm hoping for a more experienced CB this summer as well... But those are the two young CBs from the premier league that I think we'll be considering for the future as well.

Nico Schlotterbeck of Freiburg would be my first pick. Arguably best young German defender, reads the game well and passes brilliantly. We should take a serious look at him. He’d be quite cheap too.

I still think we need a left footed centre back or at least someone who is comfortably using their left foot to pass the ball and also capable to use their left foot to switch the ball from left to right.

We will have a hard time shifting Maguire, unless Newcastle decide to go for him. I think it makes sense to buy a young 3rd/4th choice like Branthwaite, Colwill (though he’d be a starter sooner rather than later and no chance Chelsea sell to us), Thiaw, Esteve, Sow etc.

No to Rudiger. One fat contract for minimum 4 years. Bring someone with huge potential and move Maguire and Varane on in next couple of windows.

Can't see Newcastle paying him 200k a week
Can't see him taking a paycut

Either he comes good or we have a very expensive sub for the next few years

I’ve forgotten what a good CB looks like to be honest, it’s been so long since we had one.

Expecting Menghi to get some games next season with the Dutch link. Will be interesting to see who comes in, I’d suggest De Ligt but he’s a Raiola player so that’s out of the question.

Maguire doesn’t have to leave, he just needs to surrender the captaincy and get used to being benched until we need him.

How are Villareal mostly setup? Is there roo much protection for the defense or do they play a high line?
Wouldn’t affect his ability to play progressive ball from the back though. I’m assuming ETH will try to set up his team based on more possession of the ball and he will want his CB to be able to play this type of progressive ball like Blind for example.

I would not say central defenders is priority.

We need a really good striker even if Ronaldo stays and hopefully 2 central midfielders if Pogba and Matic leaves.

I hope if we spend big on a central defender we do not go into next season with Fred, Mctominay as our main men in midfield.

Exactly.

A Defender or a GK should be a least priority area for us.
A top DM + a decent CM needed. A replacement for cavani and greenwood, someone like nunez needed.

Both city and liverpool didnt solved all their problems in one window. Hope ten hag will attack the weak areas first and fix things slowly.

I’m firmly onboard the [insert centerback’s name] train. We need at least 1 CB boss to play the ETH system, but 2 would be even sweeter. Varane is perma-crocked, Maguire doesn’t fit the Hag-ball profile, Bailly and Jones off on the summer. Lindelof the only available CB who can play Hag-ball.

I don’t think it matters which team a player watched as a wee lad, when the big team comes calling they will sign. Wasn’t Shaw a Chelsea fan?

Gvardiol, Timber, Torres, DeLigt: I don’t care, buy one!

Buy anyone, choo-choo!

It was between Pau Torres and Jules Kounde "for me" last year and still is.

I do think both of them, and particularly Torres, would be a game changer for how we transition. Much of EtH game is based on defenders finding midfielders/attackers in the space between the opponents midfield and defence. A player like Torres would be so crucial to do that.

I've really warmed up on Torres, but his speed is a major concern for me.
Also its not a given that he plays to that level in an attacking side though to his credit he was rather decent from what I watched of him in the euros.

We have this debate every season. We'd be much better off signing a couple of top CMs and some aggressive forward players who can press effectively.
And a keeper who actually does the basics well it might serve us better than bringing CB every other summer .
