Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time
A good lad who loves United, won a PL while with the club, has been unlucky with injuries. There hasn't been much from the likes of Rashford or Martial to suggest they are any better than him in any respect apart from having more luck with staying fit.
Both Rashford and Martial have had higher peaks than anything Welbeck has ever had. It's just that they have both been in shit form for a while.

Obviously welbeck should have done better in front of goal at times, but so many people ignore the rest of the game.

His technical ability, linkup play, athletic ability, intelligence, were all very good. He made his team play better, he added so much to the general play.

This is the main thing we lack, and we keep getting players who have weaknesses in these areas and not a strength.

Hold up. He had his chance here, he had multiple chances. It did not work out for him. He is a striker and he is supposed to score goals - a lot of them. He didn't do that for neither us nor Arsenal. Decent player, always promising but never fulfilled full potential for whatever reason.

City are doing well without one. Having a player judged simply on goals feels so backward.

Exactly right.

I grew up in the same area as Welbeck so had a fair few family friends in common.

Even met his dad Victor and mum Philomena a few times. Really nice family. Wish he'd made it at United.

Yeah that’s fair, he did bring other things to the team, shame his weakness was in front of goal.

It is an outlier case and it is not like City is not looking for a striker.
What about Liverpool with firmino? I don't think he's been close to their top scorer, praised for hit linkup play.

I don't remember peps Barcelona's forward were judged mainly for their individual goals.

Van Gaal was an idiot to sell him. His pressing from the front was so damn good, we looked far better as a team when he started because of that. But Van Gaal didn’t seem to appreciate that at all. He was never a prolific goal scorer but he fit Van Gaal’s system very well.

Hes not a league winning forward, I know 8 yrs without winning one, but as a club as utd are, ye think we should be challenging, dont think he was that level,

Always had a soft spot for Welbeck but he left at the right time for everyone.

It's a shame for him about the injuries while at Arsenal, because he is a useful player. Yes he has a moment in him and isn't the most composed in the penalty area but his overall play is (or was) very good.

Come on Welbz, just need a phantom touch from Shaw and you can fall over for a penalty 30 seconds later like you did with Robertson and got a 1-1 draw.

Delighted he missed that chance. Besides the stupidly obvious fact of we would have dropped points, it would have been even more annoying for him to score his entire goal tally for the season against us again.

You just know he scored one of his usual six goals a season whenever this thread gets bumped

Van Gaal literally sold ever useful player we had and replaced them with shite. People talk about Moyes, but Van Gaal was where our team began it's proper decline.

The hilarious thing about the bump is that, rashford is shambolic this season, so out of form that plenty of fans want him sold.

Whereas welbeck is having statistically one of the best seasons of his career.

So, not exactly sure what it proves basically he's still just good enough to sell, eh?

4 goals with no assists what were his worse seasons like?

Loved me a.bit of Welbz back in the day, could never get my head around why van Gaal would take 3 players who thrived in quick one touch interplay situations like Cleverly, Welbeck and Nani and just hoy them straight out while we were dying for some final third creativity.
