I guess it’s a risk worth taking. Another year like this and he’s not worth half what he’s currently on anyway. If he hits a decently high level again and starts looking like he actually wants to play football (I have grave doubts) then factoring everything in he’s probably worth a new slightly improved contract. I really don’t like him anymore but he still could turn it around.
I think it’s a similar situation to Jesse, which I doubt they’d want to repeat. We went from a 25m asset to 0 in a year. I think Rashford will get a new deal, which is a shame, not because he’s rubbish or anything, but because it will be a decision made for off-field reasons.

£100-£150m plus funds raised from selling all the pokemons from squad could very much result in hefty sum for more than 3 players... but the clearout needs to be done or there won't evolution, revolution, expansion, progression, transformation, modification or whatever fancy word they can come up with.

Jesus Christ, this will be painful next season, once people realise even ETH is not a magician

Club/board haven't got the balls for it. So more of the same.

Really Fred and Scott to me are both box to box midfielders. They do not have the positional sense or tackling ability to be DM's. They have both been put in that position with the hope they cover for each other deficiencies, which doesn't really work when they have the same deficiencies. I agree I would rather get two DM's and sell Scott, he hides to me and does not have the passing range to justify his place.
Agreed. Ultimately they both have too many weaknesses to be first teamers for the club. Scott just isn't suited to be a DM but doesn't have the passing range or consistency to play higher up the pitch. His real strength was being able to perform in the final third and that's dried up this season. Ultimately he's a passenger. Sell Scott, bring in 2 DMs and our midfield might stand a chance with the return of Garner/Donny and introduction of Hannibal.

Defense and Forward lines needs some real surgery though. Some really hard decisions will need to be made with some of the senior players. I doubt the club have the stones to cut their losses on Maguire but that is 100% what needs to happen.

Hopefully a load of nonsense

They need to directly replace Matic, Pogba, Greenwood and Cavani with first XI quality players to start. Then the full back areas need overhauls. And Ten Hag will want a ball playing GK too surely.

Also how do they justify only having £100m available when they're about to clear Millions of pounds worth of wages off their books.

I just know already that I’m in for another season of being subjected to watching Scott McTominay start 30+ games in midfield for us.

What the fans needs to be next season is patient as you simply cannot expect a whole host of changes to the first team to produce consistent results immediately. It's going to take time to settle and form a proper unit, some of the new signings won't work out, some youngsters might not make the grade. Realistically, next season will be the fight for Top 4, the following season when new signings have had 12 months to settle and get used to England/United will be where we'll see proper progress (hopefully).

We will probably see a very erratic first 4/5 months at United. Made worse by the fecking World Cup.

Yep. When you factor in how many incomings we need, a full rebuild of the midfield is another summer away. We will probably be an injury or two away from going back to McFred.

Amad, Garner, Laird, Martial and Tuanzebe coming back are like new signings
Agree on the first 3 potentially making the squad if ETH fancies them in pre season, but Martial has given vibes he's done here and Axel is just shit from what I've seen at Villa and his first Napoli game. He's also severly limited on the ball.

Think Varane looks class, but at times looks like someone constantly coming back from injury. A lot of our problems come from the fullback positions, either getting caught out positionally when teams attack, not watching where players are, but also they seem to be the ones who get caught out when offside comes into play. As I have said AWB is a good defender but not for a team who want to be on the front foot, he would struggle getting into that Palace side now.

Think someone in charge at the club really need to sit down and watch a video of Scott, just him and watch how he hides behind players.

However, the advantage for the Board is that many fans believe that there is some alchemist out there who can literally turn lumps into gold. So when the promises made to Ten Hag are betrayed, when we're languishing in midtable, pundits and journos who love a little bit of access and an exclusive will start saying: 'Ten Hag should get more out of these players. Conte or Pochettino would have got more out of these players.' And the worst thing is our fans will believe them, turn on the manager and expect that a new guy coming in will suddenly change everything.

Honestly, its crazy. Just run back some of the arguments you hear made about this squad and make the same arguments about United in the late 80s. It be like saying: Whiteside, McGrath, Stratchan, Robson, Hughes, McClair. These are the same players that finished second last year. Fergie should be getting more out of them. A new manager would be getting more out of this squad. I don't think we need signings I think we need a new manager. This is literally the same as what people are doing/expecting now with this squad.

AWB follows the pattern with Scott of being a player who's technically limited and therefore of no real use to a side wanting to move that direction. He's a very good defender though and has improved here but he won't ever be a modern attacking fullback. Laird has a far better shot at being that player. Dalot has potential but have major doubts over his end product, it's just not consistent enough and he's a relatively poor defender too. Seems like another player who's not good enough raw talent and this is a step too far for him.

This obviously means he won't be allowed to remove certain players but only the ones the board are fine with him removing. Watch him struggle to implement his system because he has to make the board favourites work.

We could sign a CB, two midfielders and an attacker to cover all six of those really. Maybe youngsters like Hanibal or Diallo could be part of the first team squad as well.
If we could promote youngsters, that would maybe give us enough depth.

If we were to only sign 3 players, we'd very obviously need to prioritise a striker and a DM. That leaves us light wide right, in midfield in terms of playmaking ability, as well as both full back slots, and at centre back. So it's a question of how much Laird can impress at right back, Williams at left back, Donny, Garner and Mejbri in midfield, Amad/Pellistri wide right, and Tuanzebe at centre back? Out of all of those, I suspect the biggest concern is at centre back, where we really need a commanding centre back with pace.

Surely ten Hag will be given money to spend from what we recoup from sales and getting rid of excess wages..

But we won't have the CL, so it really is a chance for plenty of young players to get some European action while the main focus has to be on the league for the main group of players, and utilising all the time we possibly can on the training pitch.

To be starters no, squad players sure. Garner and Hannibal probably the only 2 for that, but i doubt it'd be anything more than a fringe role and loans would likely be better for both.

There are only two of the players you named who have had any serious imput this season, the others have either been deemed only good enough for five minutes here or there or are sicknotes.
Well our squad has been too thin this year as well. And these are only the players we are sure to be losing, there will be many more that we should get rid of but probably won’t if we can’t afford a replacement. Eg we have four full backs but three of them are crap and one is injury prone.

IMO at very least we need a new full back, midfielder, winger and a striker, all for the first team. And 2-3 players for depth.

Why do people believe everything they read in these articles? Proven season after season to be nonsense about budgets, targets, sales etc.

Looking for the answers...
I doubt i'm the first to say this, but we've let things get SO bad, we need Revolution to fix things.

This isn't tweaking around the edges in terms of adjusting to life post Fergie, this is fixing close to 10 years of bad decisions after bad decisions. The club can talk about sticking close to the "Manchester United way" or "Clubs DNA" or whatever, but we're so far from that now, that we absolutely need to top to bottom change.

It's sad, but its true.

Not expecting huge changes, that’s not how the club works. The only reason so many first team players are leaving is because they’ve chosen to, Pogba, Matic, Cavani and Lingard. Mata is maybe only one club are willingly letting go. Unless Ronaldo leaves I don’t think any of the other players who start regularly will leave this summer, new contracts are more likely.

ETH is going to be fielding a starting eleven next season where pretty much every week at least 8-9 of the players are already on the books. He’ll need three summer windows to really make significant changes.

Average results he will be forgiven for in his first season, but if we only sign 3 players i doubt we would even see anything close to a Ten Hag style of play. Its impossible with the lot we have. If Ten Hag doesnt produce results or decent offensive fotball the fans will indeed turn on him as well in the first season. Thats why its vital he get full backing in the summer. A evolution is not enough. We dont have much to evolve from. 5 players in the summer then 5 more next summer at minimum is what we need to give him to give him the proper platform to succeed.

Think AWB was just the wrong player for us, maybe the club thought it could be coached into him, but he needed good coaches for that to happen. Dalot it was going down the potential route, when maybe we just needed to sign someone further along in their careers and was the right player. Trouble is every signing is a risk, they look like the right player but end up the wrong one. The thing then is to sell them on, not keep them hoping the next manager will turn them into the right player, otherwise you have a situation where they have been here for years without never really arriving.

The worry is if the number of incoming players is too low, it's more likely they will get slowly dragged into the current problem culture than be able to spark a culture shift amongst the players. No matter what we need to shift out whoever the toxic players are. If we can only sign 3 players, then we need to at least bring in 4 or 5 kids from the academy on top of that to help establish a considerably new dressing room environment.

3/4 new signings with 6/7+ out the window will give Hannibal and co a chance to play.
I don't care how many we sign, the important thing is to get the players out.

Not really when we should realistically remove 7-8 players from the squad - those with expiring contracts and those that are clearly not at the level we need Man Utd players to be. Jones, Bailly, Matic, Mata, Pogba, Cavani at the very least should go and that is six players that had a role this season. We will be left with a very thin team.
Not while Shaw is still here.

Definitely need to do something about a fullback. As others have mentioned maybe he needs to take a look at Laird in preseason. However we would still need another, maybe one who can cover either side or a CB who is cover for a fullback position as well.

This can’t be serious?

We have so many players leaving and we only want 3 in total? We needed another midfielder WITH Pogba and Matic, but with them both leaving, we need at least 3 just in midfield!

What a joke we truly are!

This sounds much more plausible, and is pretty much what I expect/expected from the summer. We’ll sign 3/4 quality additions and numbers will be made up by youth team players.
I also expect a difficult season next year too. I think we’ll be in another scrap for top 4. I hope for a league or FA Cup but don’t expect it.
The mess we’re in doesn’t go away overnight or with a wave of the magic cheque book.

The Wan-Bissaka signing makes no sense if there was any thought given to one day being something other than a counter attacking team. Clearly there wasn't, which is the story of the last 10 years. Man Utd has never been going in any direction, hence why so many of the players we have picked up just don't fit together.

Wan-Bissaka could have and should have gotten better than he is. If I were him I'd be doing 1 on 1 work with a coach just in terms of aerial positioning on crosses, judging the flight of balls into the channel and also how to overlap and hit a cross on the run. Maybe has has been doing all of that in his free time? However, it was always clear that he was never going to be what a 'front foot' football team needed. So to scout 800 right backs and decide he was the one needs some real explaining. Especially at the cost of £50m. Its the equivalent of signing Andy Carroll and expecting him to drop off and play as a false #9. There are some things that, even at their optimal levels, certain players can't do e.g., Fred and/or McTominay playing as #6s.

The problems we have today are entirely the result of poor planning. Nothing suggests that will change just cos we've got Ten Hag. Hope I'm wrong.
