It's confusing, really. For once, the club is following through with a sensible plan, one that was put in place months ago. You'd think this is a good thing.
Nah mate, showing any semblance of positivity that we might be sorting our shit out isn't allowed on here. Also, it's cool and hip to hate Ralf.

I’d like to see him managing a team that’s willing to listen to him so we can see what could have been this season.

(I don’t think we need to see that with Ole.)

Those slagging Rangnick are a bit weird. It’s obvious the players haven’t taken any notice of him since he got here.

Why would it harm our rebuild?

Some of you sound like he's the only man in the world who can save us.
You think the club couldn't use someone who has proved to be one of the best in the world at building clubs in modern times? Do you think the club is full of people with this kind of experience?

I have no particular feeling other than it’s going as planned probably. Ralfs in his mid 60s and has been actively coaching for about 40 of them. No doubt there‘s probably an element of winding down in old age. The consultancy gig is going to be exactly what it was going to be in fairness.

We could potentially have John Murtough and Paul Mitchell running our football board next season. The former respects and follows Ralf and the latter has worked with Ralf at Leipzig. By the sounds of it, those two would be doing the day to day stuff with Ralf as the expert advisor, because those two will know what to do anyway.

Austrian job isn’t too far for Ralf to travel from his native Germany. It isn’t a high pressure job and doesn’t really require a day to day role.

Thank God. Please feck off.
I swear some of our fanbase are unbelievable, we need footballing people at the club in the right positions, he should have been moved upstairs and Paul Mitchell brought in. People need to realise that he wasn't brought into be this all singing all dancing manager. His honesty is a breath of fresh air, instead of towing the party line of the players to cover for them.

You don't think the club would hire someone else for that role if he fecked off?

And which title winning clubs did he build?

People need to take a minute to remind themselves that this is Manchester United football club, this isn't a small German team who are on the rise.

When RB Leipzig went in for a player in Ralf's day... the price would not have been inflated.

When Manchester United go in for a player... the price will be inflated.

Anyone expecting him to be as successful here should lower their expectations and not grill him if it doesn't bring the glory days that they are thinking it will back to the club.

He will work 6 days in a month here, he will barely have any influence. He is not a DoF.

Ralf make it quite clear
United need 10 players
United board never discuss the details with him on consultancy role

I won’t be surprise he just left or the consultancy role is just a title

Hang on, since when is the players not taking a blind bit of notice of a manager not grounds for criticism of said manager? It’s incumbent on the new manager to come in and take control, no matter how broken the dressing room.

It’s not like he lost the dressing room, he never had it.

Tactics are only part of the role, if he can’t squeeze a few months of decent performances out of this team he’s not cut out for management at this level.

The players are a bunch of unprofessional twats but so would half the dressing rooms in the league be if you stuck in charge a manager who doesn’t command respect and throws them under the bus almost from day one.

Glad he’s staying. ETH won’t have to start from scratch, RR’s insight will be very important.

We need him upstairs because he is probably the only one upstairs who could understand what our real problems are, and he has got long term vision.

Hang on, we're excusing his piss poor attempt at management because he's moving upstairs and providing the strategy to make us successful. And then before he's even started that you're excusing his lack of success there because it's a difficult job? What the feck does he have to do to be considered a failure at this point?

Not really. Rangnick appointment as temporary manager was yet another mistake by the football side of our board. The guy has never managed a top club, his style rely heavily on pressing and workrate something we lack and it need ample time to adapt to. Its basically like choosing Keegan to succeed Helenio Herrera.

However Rangnick is one of the finest sporting directors in football. What he did with Leipzig is amazing. No one at United has his CV and his vision. Its a shame that he's leaving as we really need to start removing Woodward's men with people who have actual experience in what they are doing.

Agree. Rangnick can be a good manager ( I mean he took Schalke to the Champions Leage semi-finals, look where they are now), but he is much more suited for long-term team building than for saving a team's season without a pre-season or a transfer window in which he is backed by the board. Would be a shame if we lost him.

From an Austrian perspective, I can tell you everyone here would be thrilled if Rangnick were to coach our National Team. He is probably the most respected DoF in the german-speaking area.

The counterargument to this is "why hasn't he quit?" He has no emotional relationship to Manchester United and no need to keep a managerial reputation, really, as he's primarily a DOF and/or consultant these days. If you take a job managing people and they're not paying any attention to you whatsoever and you can't fire them then why even bother?

Happy for him as long as it doesn't mean he's leaving the consultancy job. We need him upstairs as much as we need ETH in the dugout.

Rangnick is seeing the big picture sort of guy. By sticking around and insisting on players to play a style that is successful elsewhere he's exposing the limitations of our squad. That would make it easier for ETH to sell his revolution to the board and the fans.

No issue with him taking Austrian gig. I think it will be good to consult with and have advice from someone who is qualified to give it and is removed from the day to day side of things.

Unlikely we will do everything he suggests and that's fine but I do hope we are influenced by some of his ideas going forward on how a modern club should operate.

He may also be able to recommend some players to us over the next year or so based on his knowledge of Austrian and German football, which is an added bonus.

A lot of United journos seem to have an issue with him taking on the role. It does confirm that his consultancy role is minimal but it's better we have him in some capacity than not at all in my opinion. Good luck to him, though given what we've seen I don't think he's going to transform them into a good team to be honest. They didn't qualify for the World Cup so at least he doesn't have all that preparation to deal with immediately.

He took over Schalke when they already made CL Quarterfinals, it was Magath who was the manager during majority of their rise. Overall Ralf's managerial record is decent but not particularly great, his DoF credentials are a lot better.
