Enjoyed the booing and jeering. All in good fun.

To think people thought it was a mistake to let him go. Then again I suppose some people still think the likes of Martial, Shaw and McT are going to come good.
Which people were these? I can only recall a handful of Jose devotees, most of whom got banned. Remember haram :houllier:

It always struck me as weird that Jose and Lukaku were (on the face if it) so devoted to each other. The latter didn’t seem to have the right character for Jose, being flaky and high maintenance. And the former did Lukaku no favours at all with allowing/encouraging him to bulk up so ridiculously and expecting him to play like Droga reincarnate.

Jose was our manager in 2014 when Lukaku raged quit and went to train with Anderlect (until he got his move) over us signing Costa.

He was aware more than most the chaos this guy would cause if he was actually held to some standards and had to fight for his place.

5 league goals this season, what's that about £20 million per goal? Great value.
Fred and Messi have 4 league goals. What a weird season this has been. You'd never predict Messi and Lukaku scoring as much as Fred in a league Season. :houllier:

I never expected him to fail this hard for Chelsea. I mean he's never been a technical player but Chelsea creates lots of chances I expected to get 15-20 goals at least.

I don't think they can get back their money neither, maybe a Serie A team? But definitely not for anything above 60M.

There were quite a few.

First few pages of this thread have some funny stuff.

Also I had an interaction with a poster in here who was making up records he achieved at Inter. Because I said Ole at least got one right.

Atletico seems like the best possibility, but they are looking hard at Nunez and even if they don't land him its unclear whether Simeone would be dumb enough to sign Lukaku when there are better, cheaper alternatives.

Unless he is willing to take a big pay cut, I'm not sure anybody in Serie A is a good fit. Definitely not Juve given they just bought Vlahovic, Inter has been trying to cut costs, he left there on bad terms, and Marotta isn't a mug. They reportedly will try hard to sign Scamacca this summer. AC Milan are running on a completely different financial model now, Roma already have Tammy, Napoli are a club that buys young players and sells for a profit not the reverse.

Maybe it goes back to the same old preach for every overpaid player, Newcastle.

Can you imagine the media if Lukaku played for United? 5 league goals all season, £100m…
It makes it even more comedy when G Nev was gushing over in the first few games when he'd scored a tap in or two.

That's interesting!

Of course a lot of United fans glossed over Jose's Chelsea meltdown; some even reckoned he'd orchestrated it deliberately so he'd be free to take the job at United which was so clearly his destiny :houllier:

Football fans are easily deluded. There's no reason to think managers aren't, particularly ones who live in the past.

Oh Ole go that one right. Though I did think at the time that getting rid of Fellaini was done mainly to appease the fans. Regardless of their quality, Fellaini was a top pro; Lukaku a bit of a dick

From a brief skim through the first couple of pages it's the Chelsea fans who are at least cautiously optimistic about his signing. United fans are either "He's Ok but..." or outright contemptuous.

The funny thing is they wont be able to afford anything like that for the forseeable future.

The last big gift from that cnut roman was a donkey named lukaku.

Ignoring the price tag for a second (not his fault), none of their strikers or wide forwards have hit 10 goals in the league this season. Mason Mount is their highest scorer with 10 goals. Just to put things in perspective, their defenders have scored 21 goals in the PL, and the strikers/wide forwards have scored 25 goals.

Seems to be a wider issue at Chelsea with regards to getting the best out of their wide forwards and strikers, no?

Nah that's rubbish. Apologies for interrupting the scapegoat session.

I was a bit surprised the crowd booed him.
Very weird, he’s a bit of a knob, but I don’t think he’s particularly disrespected our club in any way.

No more so than certain players who still play for us and you’d think were club legends on a par with Cantona the reception they get at OT (Cavani, Martial)

He was an absolute cnut when he wanted to leave.

Started posting confidential info like our sprint times, and not to mention looked absolutely unprofessional riding a stationary bike looking like an absolute twat.

Unprofessional and doesn't have the mentality to be at the top. Much like many of the players that were brought in by mourinho.

Yeah, because Micheal Owen, Jermain Defoe, and Theiry Henry were great with back to goal....
All dramatically different from lukaku.
Lukaku is the kind you expect to be great with his back to the goal due to his physicality, something which he lacks and doesn't have their explosiveness to make up for it.

There a key difference.

The rest have a stylistic use beyond stats, work hard, haven't openly admitted they don't want to be here, bar Kai didn't cost anywhere near as much and haven't compared themselves favourably to the best players in their position (I still can't believe he did that).

Wouldn't you do that if they paid a record fee to get you?
The hype gor ro him obviously but it was compounded by clubs paying an insane fee after an insane fee to hire him.

It's not really something players generally say even if it's true.

But despite the fees there should surely be some self awareness there, Anelka was once the highest transfer fee (combined) but I highly doubt he saw himself on par with Henry and R9 and if he did he atleast had the sense to keep it quiet.

You have to have an ego to be active on that level (mostly) but that fire was definitely stoked by clubs throwing stupid money around for him.

He has always been a difficult personality, didn't he throw a hissy fit the first time he was with you lot?

Load of crap. Players like martial and Cavani to some degree have done so much more for Utd than Lukaku could dream of. Worst starting striker I’ve ever seen at this club by a long way.

Pretty much, all because he had to fight for his place. That was when I knew he would never be a top striker. If he had 'it' about him he would have looked at Torres, Ba and a 32 year old Eto'o and been licking his lips, instead he went to Everton.

Then the next year we signed Diego Costa and he left full time. I remember laughing at Everton for paying us £28m, good times!

I remember him refusing to celebrate goals for us when he scored

Lukaku is just like Haaland in terms of playing style. Both give the illusion that they are great with their back to goal.

Yeah pretty much , its almost as if your idea of what they are is stronger than what they really are.
Happened to jose as well , he loved him even though he wasn't really the type you would expect him to considering his skill set.

Well at the very least you got your own pogba now.

At least Anelka had the raw talent in the early days to be considered at that level. Lukaku has always looked like a lower league footballer blessed with an unplayable physique.

This isn't true and it was never true. Lukaku from day 1 looked like PL player and he had lot more in his locker than just physique.

Lukaku isn't elite like he wants to us to believe but he is very good PL player.

He looked like that because of his physical attributes. Technically he has always been about Championship level.

Nah he’s been a donkey since day one. That’s why so many Utd fans were gutted when we signed him from Everton. He broke through due to his freakish size and athleticism (have you seen those photos of him at youth level?). To be fair to him he’s always used those attributes to the best of his abilities and combined it with okay finishing which means he scores at an acceptable (but not spectacular) rate. But technically he’s one of the worst I’ve ever watched, control, passing, vision, heading are all in the lowest percentile in the league in my opinion which means hes never going to be world class. The fact he has a cult like following who can’t see past the stats, and he inflates his own ego to a huge degree means he’s an easy target to really dislike.
