It’s not like he would have got a good reception. The fans like Cavani but Lingard’s done nothing to endear himself to them for years. The opposite, if anything. I don’t think his send off would have been anything like as positive as his brother would like to think.
Exactly. Not getting a sending off might have actually been to his benefit as I don't see many fans applauding him. He is clearly very disliked and it's better he goes away quietly.

He wasn't entitled to a send off, but he should really have come on for a few minutes at the end. He's come up through the academy and scored some big goals down the years. It comes across as a bit petty that we denied him that.

These fans applauded mourinho when he lost 0-3 at home. There are no standards.

He can only have one of two things. Either he can "not mind Scholes saying this" about dressing room internals (as a culmination of public noise he generated all season), or he can expect his manager to give him a nice, gratuitous goodbye at OT from the fans.
Keeping in mind, as well, that he pushed hard to leave in January and moaned about not being able to. He can't have it both ways.
Rangnick might have been ineffective as a coach in his short emergency spell, but he isn't a mug or a walk-over when it comes to dressing room discipline.

Lots of media reaction. Interesting how the journos are coming out to bat for him. Very interesting...

So a player who hasn't really bothered to try for Manutd this season should be given a sending off? Why?

He would have played in some games but asked for personal time off instead.

Its best he stays on the bench and leaves at the end of the season.

He's been dogshit for years, he's come on in games all season and jogged around and shown no effort and he's clearly one of the people leaking stories to the media.

He deserved feck all send off.
As the poster below you said, we subbed on Cavani who has been a fraud the entire season and running away from United to play for his national team while stealing his wages regularly, yet we gave him a final sub appearance at Old Trafford.

Give the guy a 5 minutes sub appearance before leaving. It wouldn't have hurt anyone really.

I don't care but really an unnecessary move.

Please just go!!! Everything is a circus with this lad, did he think of United when he was spilling his guts to Scholes??

Nope, don’t let the door hit you on the way out, well unless you are holding it for Rashford, Pogba and co

Wouldn’t surprise me if the journos want to keep good terms with Jesse as he’d likely be a leak for them at a future club.

He’s an absolute manchild with zero self awareness. Hate the fact that he’s been at the club for so many years. Says so much about how poorly run this club has been

Should really think himself very lucky to have spoofed his way to a career with a club like United despite not being close to the required standard or level of effort to play here. He's earned millions by that incompetence that his brother is suddenly so upset about when he should have been earning far less at a far smaller club. If him and Pogba could convince Rashford to join them in leaving then that would really show us though!... Please?

The entitlement is just astounding.
This is a societal problem it seems. Honours or awards used to be awarded to people. Not many people were around who had so much sugar blown up their arse, that they thought they were entitled to receive an award based upon their own perception.
Not that I care about the whole thing, but giving him a final sub appearance wouldn't have hurt anyone especially when he is already on the bench.
But that‘s exactly my problem with his situation. It also wouldn‘t have hurt him to go on his own lap of honour. Nobody was stopping him from showing his appreciation for years of support. The problem is, he seems to expect everybody else to show him appreciation, without showing any gratitude towards the people who put up with his antics for so many years.

Staying true to himself until the end, it seems he once more didn‘t show enough initiative when it mattered.

I wish he‘d fulfilled some of the promise he managed to show glimpses of, but he‘s just another victim of the new age of football. Too many distractions for immature personalities. It‘s a sad way to end his time at Utd.

What exactly is the endgame with being a tattletale to the press anyway? He does realise that any club that tries to sign him will realise that he‘d need to be kept on a short leash as a result?

A reminder that this man is THIRTY YEARS OLD this year. He embodies everything that most people hate about the modern footballer.

No surprise that the media hacks are coming out to back him up. Pretty much confirms he’s a leak for them.

You can tell the journalists that get stories from Lingard's people by the tweets of sympathy.
Lingard did not care about a farewell when he wanted to leave in January or last summer. Now, it is suddenly an issue.
Manchester United does no owe Jesse Lingard anything.

The scratch my back, I'll scratch yours of it is so ugly. They're all tweeting the same stuff at the same time. They didn't even coordinate it to spread it out throughout the day.

I've never understood this overall love for Lingard from the media. He is a very immature player, that has contributed very little during his time here and quite possibly a source of a lot of unrest within the club. The sooner he is out of the club the better.

We completely mismanaged him, particularly after his excellent West Ham stint. We should have (properly) re-introduced him to the squad or, and this would've been preferable, sold him for good money. These were the two logical options. We invented a third option which was to not sell him, not play him and watch his value depreciate while he lingered in no mans land and grew in resentment.

Having said that, he is also an absolute man-child with zero self awareness as @Strats so eloquently put it. His behaviour has been shocking and he did not deserve a send-off.

I think you can always tell what's going on when clueless family start oversharing. He'll have been bitching all season as he knows he's done here.

He needs a small club because he needs to feel like a top player he'll never do so at an actual top club.

If anything, he can thank Scholes for this. Maybe that's where his brother should direct his anger, an anger that seems to be fueled by an astonishing sense of entitlement.
Rangnick was actually lenient with him a number of times, he might as well have kept him out of the squad for the latter half of the season, since it's pretty clear Lingard was a main source of constant unrest and noise in the media. But that Scholes thing was surely the point where enough is enough.

Two reasons. He is English. And he is leaking them stuff. Of course they "love" him.
Soon as he p**** off, they won' t give a flying kite about him, and he will be forgoten man. There is no need for them to be friendly cause his next club will not be United. If you know what I mean.

He isn't some fecking club legend. Just pack your bags and leave with some dignity Jesse, and stop getting your entourage and media buddies to kick up a stink.

who do you feckin think ?
I think it's a bit sad for all that he obviously approved this tweet from his brother. A classy goodbye message would have been appreciated but this entitlement just proves the club are right to let him and his circus move on. His social media stuff does him no favours. For what its worth I actually value his contribution to the club, the cup final winner was very memorable but it has been badly tarnished by the social media stuff and media leaks.

Let's not pretend that Ralf likes to keep comments behind closed doors, he's quite consistently displayed verbal diarrhoea himself in his press conferences all season. And let's also not pretend that Lingard is the first player to push for a move away and complain when it didn't happen.

 Shows how conditioned fans are to managers spouting meaningless bollox when someone giving direct answers to direct questions is accused of verbal diarrhoea.

This. Should have been sold and the money (together with saved wages) reinvested or kept for this summers kitty. Our squad (mis)management has been unbelievably shite.

You will not be missed, Jlingz.

I can understand his being upset at not getting a final runout mind, but if the rumours are true, serves him right really.

He has played good football for a total of around 7 months in his entire career and then spent the rest of the time being talked about as a "good player who is out of form".

The fact that he is talked about so much baffles me. All the best.

pretty much sums things up.
