We’d probably concede about four times as many too.
Why? It's not like McT is Makelele. He's crap defensively, no awareness, not tracking runners, no positional sense, he's actually poor in the tackle as well.

He's good at running with the ball and shooting. And hiding. Top marks there.

The most obvious transfer in football...... Just makes too much sense.

Because it makes so much sense. It probably wont happen. Knowing us we will be chasing somebody like Bale instead. If we get Eriksen after getting Ten Hag etc then I will truly start to think we may have turned a corner.

His delivery alone would make us a deadly team next season. Great replacement for those leaving us in the summer.

Replaces Pogba on the cheap.

"Martial...He's isolated Skrtel here..."
What has Thiago got to do with this?
Your comment about him being too lightweight (when he's succeeded without issues in the PL for years) had me compare him to another player that was thought to be lightweight and more of a finesse footballer in Thiago, who is destroying the league with Liverpool.

Lightweight in my eyes is someone like Mata that can't handle any sort of physical contact. Eriksen has never been that type of player (he literally shrugged off Matic just the other day).

If he were to turn down United for Brentford it would be because of the location.
After all they've been through I'm fairly certain that his priority is his family and they know London and feel at home there.
No it would not be just due to location - he came back to play football because he wanted to play at the World Cup with Denmark, he will sign with a team that will give him the first team action he needs and where he will be a nailed on starter. If United offer him the playing time then that's another matter but most of you are on about an option from the bench type signing.

You're genuinely deluded if you think he'd turn down the chance to play for Manchester United, for Brentford. Like, I understand this season has been god awful, but the name still has a lot of attraction. Especially compared to mighty Brentford.

If we put in a contract offer on the table, he'd sign.
You are deluded mate if you genuinely believe he is going to uproot his family to sign with United if the plan is to sit on the bench and start the odd game. If this was a straight forward transfer of a player without his history then of course United would be overwhelming favourites but your opinion seems to negate all the reasons he signed for Brentford in the first place.

Reckon he'd fit in perfectly at Real Madrid as a Modric replacement
Yeah, I've always thought he'd end up in a Modric like role eventually, further away from the goal. Conte tried it last season and it sort of worked towards the end of the season.

Not that different players to be honest.
What two players are we talking about? Modric is an all round great CM. He can control the tempo of a game. Typically plays “the pass before the assist”. That’s not Christian’s game. He gets into the box more, plays the final killer pass more than Modric. Luka will come back into central midfield and help on defense sometimes, Eriksen rarely does.

Both top players in their own right but not similar IMO.

I didn't mean any disrespect to Brentford btw, if that was how it sounded.
I agree with the playing time, and I would still like him here. He's an intelligent player and we don't have too many of those right now.
He's also used to the playing style that Ten Hag will bring, having played for Ajax, or at least will be able to adapt quickly.

I think he will look at the minutes that players like Lingard and McTominey have racked up at United and fancy himself to come in and make an impact as a starter.

If his stint with you guys has proven anything, it’s that he still has the ability and the desire. At his age, he might fancy one more big contract with a club like United.

Brentford have been a great fit, but if he is ambitious about his club career, he might feel like he can come in and make a difference at a club like United

Didn't read it as disrespectful just pointing out there is more than just location involved in the decision if he stays with us - otherwise pretty much every other Premier League club in London would be ahead of us in terms of the finances on offer.

You never know he might be excited about getting Brentford challenging further up the table, had Raya been fit all season I think we would have finished higher up this time around especially with the impact Eriksen has had. He help could get us into Europe - that would be a heck of an achievement! Moneywise we can't compete but who knows what shape United will be in next season competitive-wise. I also think he is enjoying being a big fish in a small pond which he definitely won't be at united.

I agree, that it could well come down to the perspective of the player. Brentford are a great club with a very modern and forward thinking set-up. He could well decide that’s what he wants to do.

United is a mystery, but the allure of being part of a new beginning at such a big club, and as you suggested, the salary on offer, could sway him.

My point was that I don’t think a player of his ability would be put off when he sees how many minutes average players have racked up over the last few years at United.

He has every chance of coming here and being a starter, despite what other posters have suggested.

He joined Brentford because they offered him a 6 month contract which other clubs were not prepared to offer. He proved he can play and his health issues are behind him, he'll have better offers in the summer where he can get either full game time or ample play time to secure his place in WC squad.

Delusion runs from the fact as folks think allure of playing for Utd is a lost cause, not to mention he'd get a lot of game time as we are completely gutting our midfield. But, carry on dreaming.

Let's be serious, he'll be moving if a big side comes in for him.

I don't think we should be looking at it, though. Throwing money at players that are past their best years should be a thing of the past.

Firstly I’ve never questioned the allure of playing for United and I am not one of these folks you seem to be worried about.

Secondly you do seem to be running from some very basic facts regarding the signing of Eriksen so by your own definition might be a bit delusional ;) Although I don’t expect you to be au fait with any of the details around the signings Brentford have made in recent times so it may be born out of ignorance and I don’t blame you for that at all. The reason Eriksen signed for Brentford was not just because we offered him a 6 month contract. There were various other factors involved which I have already mentioned on this thread. Can happily go over them again but don’t want to bore you ;)

As for carrying on dreaming - I am already there mate it’s dreamland stuff for us and regarding Eriksen we will see where he ends up but don’t be too shocked it he playing for us next season and it won’t be because we’ve offered him a 6 month contract ;)

Huh? What are you on about?

Eriksens options were limited due to his medical condition, Inter terminated his contract due to strict regulations in Italy, he didn't have a ton of options. He signed for Brentford because it was his shot to prove that he can still play competitive football and put himself in the shop window. He's done it successfully, as a number of clubs are already interested in him for the summer.

No amount of sass or emojis can pass up for all the delusional scenarios you have built up inside your head such as him uprooting his family, or warming the bench at a top club as the reason he stays at Brentford. Footballers move all the time, it's their very nature of job. And, the irony is you are running away from a basic fact that United will gut the midfield this summer, which opens up a lot of game-time for any midfielder we bring in. Unless, he is fixated on playing for Brentford and Brentford alone, he'll have a host of offers from much better clubs including those in London.

I literally said I don't dispute the allure of playing for United but you are the one who seems to not want to take into account that there are other factors that Eriksen considered when signing for Brentford. Those factors are still there and considering the trauma they went through things like uprooting his family would probably take on more significance than it would do for the average footballer. You arrogantly asserted that I must be delusional to think Eriksen will stay at Brentford, what I have put forward is that the factors that led to him signing in the first place are still in play. I mean maybe you need to hear "United are a massive club and all players would chose them over a little Bus Stop in Hounslow" but thought must United fans would be a bit more self assured in their position. It is just that Eriksen may just be he exception that proves the rule in this case. :)

I would be very surprised to see him move to us. He needs/wants guaranteed game time in a settled environment, given what happened and with the World Cup coming up. There is way too many question marks about us and our track record with almost all players completely regressing when moving to us (or at the very least showing almost no improvement) I can't see him seeing us as a first priority.

Being Danish, I am also very unsure. I would love to have a fantastic Danish player at United - been too long, but on the other hand I am afraid the toxicity and state of the club will affect him for worse.

I don't think Eriksen will just look at club stature this summer. Of course United can offer more competitiveness (on and off the field), but it's not an easy equation for him this summer.

He would be a good replacement to Pogba and backup to Bruno.
With Mata, Pogba leaving, we need to fill atleast 1 slot with proper AM. I dont see any one better than Eriksen, Free , possibly low wage and also PL experienced.
We should make these free transfer buys for backups and use the money to buy the players for starting eleven.

I would like Eriksen as a free transfer. With Mata, Lindgard and Pogba leaving, we need one CM-AM.

In the right set up, no reason why he cant play as a 3rd CM in 4-3-3, even as a controller no? Not too dissimilar to David Silva or KDB at Man City. For that matter maybe even Bruno can play at least like KDB no? if coached right and team is set up right.

His performance against us has convinced me. Would be a useful signing on a free, we need numbers so can’t be spending 50m on all of them.

we have Bruno and DVB though so not sure it makes that much sense, depends on what ETH needs and how he plans to use the aforementioned players

Eriksen walks into this United side, He was coached in the Ajax system, has huge PL experience and more importantly creates goal scoring opportunities, get used to 4-1-2-3 system with inverted strikers playing wide on the touch line and one of the FB playing inverted to become the second CDM/ Deep lying playmaker with a new more destructive CDM signing controlling the tempo, this means the space is vacated higher up the pitch for the two hybrid 8’s/10’s to create overloads and goal scoring opportunities we saw a brief glimpse of this with Juan and Bruno against Brentford so in possession we switch to 3-2-2-3 and have 5 or 6 people always attacking the opposition pen area and the back 3/4 push up to create a very high line, this type of formation is perfect for eriksen who moves through the thirds with ease plus he’s Free and he will play more than enough games for the World Cup. If we consider that we will be involved in 50/55 games next year then you need 2 players for every position and that means we need 4 attacking midfielders to play in this role; Bruno, Van D Beek, C Erikksen and I hate to say it but Andreas Pereirra will still be at the club with no one spending the money we want. Pogba, Mata and Lingard will go and we will be one Top quality CDM to go with Fred and Mctominay. Aldo think we have 6 positions to fill and this is the easiest as he’s on a free and wages will be half of Pogba’s.

I'd stay away from this signing. People saying we need to replace Mata, well he hardly played.

Yes, he has looked good for Brentford where the pressure isnt there. People saying his performance against convinced them? If thats the case then we should sign every CM that we have played against this season because every one of them have bossed our midfield.

He can play a CAM role, we numerous players who can play that position. We need to concentrate on getting younger, more hungry players.

I am pretty sure that Ten Hag will use Bruno as a winger, as his abilities are not suited to hold on to the ball and recycle possesion. Eriksen would fit perfectly as a nr. 10, or as the most attacking nr. 8 if you want to call it a 433. A setup with the following attack in front of a new midfield duo that is confortable on the ball would be perfect:

Bruno - Eriksen - Sancho
Ronaldo
Possibly, but ETH has used an inverted winger on the right, I.e. Anthony to cut inside. I’d expect this if we sign an attaching FB like dumphries (may be lazy journalism). We look so much better with someone who looks after the ball playing in 10. Bruno’s pass completion was poor for years before we signed him too so can’t see him changing.

I’d take Eriksen btw.

I totally agree about the nr. 10 position. Regarding the inverted wingers, ETH has used an asymmetrical system with left-footed wingers on either side.We have a lot of right-footed wingers and Bruno, so I expect him to mirror his system to the other side.
Ajax use:
Mazraoui (attacking) - Blind (defensive, ball-playing)
Anthony (cutting in) - Tadic (wide)

A similar but inverted United system:
Timber (defensive, ball-playing) - Shaw (attacking)
Bruno (wide) - Sancho (cutting in)

In theory I agree, but what's the big side for him that's settled? Conte could have already left Spurs in the time I'm writing this as I haven't checked the last 90 seconds. Maybe PSG if Pochettino stays since they have cash and badly need a creative midfielder to play in a 3 with Verrati and one of their water-carriers. Dortmund maybe? A 4-3-3 with Bellingham alongside him in front of a #6 holding? Brandt leaves, Reus moves out left (where the numbers say he's defying his age to still be good) and they've brought in new CBs already.

So I think the list of teams is smaller. Newcastle in a 3 with Bruno Guimares and a new #6 would work and he'd walk into the team, but he might then be giving up on the CL for another 2 seasons if they take 2 years to crack the top 4, which seems like best case scenario for them. Leicester I don't see. They have other massive problems (RW, CB) and Dewsbury-Hall and Maddison are doing well enough, though if they played a diamond with Maddison up top, Eriksen and Dewsbury Hall either side and N'Didi holding with Barnes looking to get wide up top with another striker (Vardy or Daka I assume) that could actually be interesting and make them the only top half team playing a diamond unless you count City and if they get Haaland they won't be, which is always nice to be I think from a recruitment and matchup difficulty standpoint.

Yeah, I'll say there's like 6-7 teams that makes sense as I'm not going to start thinking about Serie A, so I'll say 15% chance he ends up here. Maybe as high as 25% since we have an Ajax man here and he's used to England.

True enough, but as I see it we are entering a considerable more complicated rebuild than most others. In many ways it makes a lot of sense, and maybe I am just overly negative. A free Eriksen opens up budget for other areas.

I kind of see Spurs as the strong candidate, Conte or even if Poch comes back knows him.. He knows the place, players, etc.

You can’t just fill a squad with young hungry players. They need good role models too. I don’t think we will be after him but if we did I wouldn’t complain. Flexible player, creative, scores goals and been brought up the Ajax way. What’s not to like?

What i don't get is this transfer was a no brainer for us in January let alone this summer, it would have been and win/win situation, if we had taken a chance on one of the most loved and popular players in football currently it would have brought a feel good mood about us in the press and within the dressing room, plus it would have only been a short term contract like Brentford's.

Sign him, keep mata, bring donny back and along with fred and youth players like hannibal and we would have enough cover in a 3 man midfield as no 8's and can use transfer money for weaker areas like defensive midfield, central defence, right back and attack plus possibly gk as well.

Nobody knew he would retain a high level after his heart issues so it was a gamble for any club. Which is why he ended up at Brentford. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.
