He's a high energy 'pressing machine' who is best utilised to help apply a coordinated press. But he's not someone that I believe would be the most effective at dropping into the back-line to stretch the pitch horizontally and thus opening up space for the wide receivers to become the out-ball in the initial build up phase.

He's definitely not that type of player, and he's most effective as a hound who can help the team win the ball quickly via the counter press and hence force quick counters in a vertical axis. So he's someone that will provide the intensity/energy off the ball but not the craft and guile on the ball imo.
Tchouaméni can do that on the aswell but has better passing ability too right?

Do you see him as a Ten Hag player? And if so similar to who he has used previously?

Tchouameni is a player that fits into any approach. He can be utilised to apply the press in a double pivot, step into the back-line to stretch the pitch horizontally, or be utilised as a box to box midfielder. He's not a midfielder that should be pigeon-holed as far position and role in the team are concerned IMO. And Declan Rice is similar in that regard as well, but his value has sky rocketed, which is a pity for us.

If all the asterisks can be resolved, then Bissouma is the best option for me for a number of reasons. Knows the PL, good age profile, good price due to contract situation but also just as good with the ball as he is without. The latter is crucial for me - we seem quite invested in a tackling pressing machine, but question marks as to whether they are good enough with the ball. Bissouma is like Verratti in style for me, graceful and press resistant with the ball as much as he is a presser and ball-winner without it.

I love Declan, but due to extortionate prices (which I suspect we’d still pay this summer if ETH okays it) - Bissouma would be my #1 choice. He could probably be bought for about 40m. If ETH can’t get FDJ out of Barcelona, then Bissouma and Arthur Melo would be a great summer’s work in the centre of midfield for me - two hard working press resistant midfielders who will help us to keep possession and circulate the ball, but also form a strong base that would make it hard to play through. Both for less than 100m combined I’d suspect.

I think Laimer can play the Gravenberch role in the double pivot.

According to transfer market his contract is running out in 2023 , I don't think you'll need 40 m to prise him out of Brighton most likely 25 m should do the trick.

Why would Tchouameni join us, a club in turmoil? He would only join if we offer considerably more in wages and transfer fee than any other club, but it would still be unlikely. We have to focus on tier 2 level players for now.

I've only seen this guy twice in a full match although one was against City and looked up his stats, but from everything I've seen so far the one issue - and it is an issue - is fitness. Injuries. He can play a creative pass, he will press and win the ball and do everything you want from a midfielder. If anything we need 2 of him

But again thats assuming he can stay fit. Remember when the caf went off Gundogan after a couple of years of him being the dream midfield signing because of his injuries? City took a chance and it worked out. So who knows

He might not want to join us, but he's the correct profile of player to play the DM role in a Ten Hag system. I'm seeing other players being suggested who can't play the DM role but are solely utilised as #8s. And then people wonder why we don't have a clue.

Ok, who would you pursue if we can't sign Rice or Tchouameni?

It is a pity we can't offer CL football and need to strengthen numerous other positions such as RW, striker, CB and fullback.

How does Laimer compare to Goretzka and Gravenberch in your opinion?

Kamara would be perfect as a the #6. Good ball winner, physical, can hold his position, likes to drop between centrebacks and facilitate play. High volume of passing, and progressive passing as well. Would be a good buy as a free agent.

I think with Gravenberch you potentially have a player who will enhance your offensive transitions. And along with Kimmich, the creative burden will fall on players like them, who will be expected to provide the class and guile on the ball in the build up phase. Gravenberch is still a teenager and will need time to grow as a player in a much tougher league playing for a giant club. But as far as profile goes, he's a player that is best utilised in offensive transition. And the rest of his game will potentially improve with further development.

Goretzka is a box to box midfielder that isn't going to be the pulse (metronome) of the team like a Kimmich is in the half spaces. But even still, he's shown a discipline on and off the ball, along with a intensity that not only helps in offensive transition, where he also provides a goal threat. but he's someone that is strong in the defensive transition.

Laimer is someone that's closer to Goretzka rather than Gravenberch as far as profile goes imo. Laimer will potentially enhance your ability in defensive transitions, and is very adept at leading the wolf pack press sequence after the press sequence is initially triggered by one of the forwards.

So I can see Laimer potentially fitting into Nagelsmann's squad because the aim is to play a proactive attacking brand of football in a compact high block. So to be successful in achieving the desired goal a club like Bayern will have to control the game. And to control a game in a compact high block, the offensive and defensive transitions have to be controlled. And a player like Laimer will potentially provide a fantastic option to control the defensive transitions due to his ability off the ball.

And with the addition of Mazraoui at RB, Bayern have potentially further enhanced their offensive and defensive capabilities due to his ability to provide the inverted fullback threat, overlaps, under laps and the ability to tuck in as a half-back to maintain structure and balance. So along with having progressive fullbacks, midfielders, and potentially also CBs, you also have a GK who is progressive. So someone like Laimer would add to the team and provide a nice balance.

I think we need a DM who is strong when the game is being played behind him in a high-line. It's also important to be good on the ball, but you don't need your DM to be Pirlo on the ball imo, as long as the total composition of the midfield has the capability to progress play in a collective approach with GK, CB and fullback support.

If Tchouameni isn't available then maybe someone like Cheik Doucoure from Lens could be a cheaper option. He's 22 and looks a interesting prospect who likely won't cost too much. A low risk, high reward type of signing.

Wow, thank you! That was even more and better than expected. I would regard Laimer as Goretzka‘s backup and don’t know, if being a squad player would be an attractive enough for him. He would surely get minutes though.

Kamara's another option if we can't sign one of our first choice targets, and have to look lower down the list.
Sign him anyway in my opinion. We have 0 DMs we need to get more than 1 in

Hmm - he is a CDM that has played at RB.

I've heard this is something Ten Hag has as a tactic so I wonder if he is interested.

Ridiculously low price how do Bayern do it
Bundesliga is like Bayern’s academy. Other bundesliga clubs let go their players cheaply to Bayern but if la liga and PL coming, they will ask 3-5x more.

You might want to check what Bayern pays for their Bundeliga transfers before calling them cheap.

I did, and I wished we could get what they paid on Lewandowski, Goretzka, Kimmich, Pavard, Gnabry. Nothing and cheap.

Feck off. You've probably barely spent more than the cost of 1x Harry Maguire for every single player in your squad that was acquired from the Bundesliga put together.

We are going to bitch about lack of value in the market as usual and end up spending the equivalent of a third world country's GDP on Declan Rice and Kalvin Philipps.

You said that Bundesliga clubs sell to Bayern cheaply. I am still waiting for examples.

Players who fulfill/run down their contracts and therefore leave for free (or have a release clause) are no examples, since you wanted to show the clubs that bend over for Bayern.

I will even help you and went back all the way to 2017.

These are the players Bayern bought from Bundesliga clubs since 2017:
Sabitzer: €15m
Cuisance: €8m
Arp: €3m
Wagner: €13m
Süle: €20m
Hummels: €35

Who exactly bent over?

They all look pretty cheap to me.

Also, the release clauses and freebies do matter, they don't materialise out of nothing. Because the level they're set at is to do with the climate in the league and player/agents wanting to move onto a good thing. Which quite naturally is often Bayern Munich who clearly have their finger on the pulse for what's going on in German football.

There's no doubt whatsoever Bayern have a favourable situation there. Nothing wrong with exploiting it but no point denying it either. There are some cushy deals floating around that are hard to get in the PL.

I agree that free transfers and release clauses cannot be ignored. I just wanted to point out, that the „Bundesliga clubs sell to Bayern cheaply“ statement is nonsense.

And those prices listed above are not really cheap. Hummels was in the last year of his contract and look at what the others on the list are now doing. Süle at €20m was fair I would say. He wasn’t an established player (and is now leaving Bayern on a free…).
Prices in the Bundesliga are normally lower than in the Premier League.
