This is what i'm saying. People keep saying his technique is poor but then he looks a ball out of the sky over his shoulder and kills it dead, quick turn and a tidy finish.

Who cares if he misplaces a few passes every now and again?
Not neccesarily disagreeing with you, but same thing was said about Bruno.

Guess it really depends on how we want to play if the linkup play with the striker is important in that

He is what we need and should be the main target for a striker this summer. The alternatives are all worse.

Get the price down and include some players if needed, but we must try.
Include players? Huh? Who's gonna want to go to Portugal to play from Man Utd's first team that doesn't have better options in terms of pay?

Bruno is the least of our worries but he's out of form for sure.

I watched 6 minutes of a 10 minute youtube video about him today.

I will now be heartbroken if we don't sign him and think he is probably the best striker in the world and undoubtedly one of the best of all time.

Not thrilled at the price, but as far as potential and goals go, he would be the best we could probably obtain this summer.

We all love United
He’ll be a real fan’s favourite here i reckon, if he comes. Like Cavani but younger and hungrier to succeed

Would be funny of we got him and he somehow scored more than haaland .

We need some players to supply him. It’s not going to be Rashford and Greenwood anyway that’s for sure. City are already assist machines. I dread to think what they’ll be like with haaland crashing into the 6 yard box for all those cut backs. Carnage id say

I'm on the same boat with you, i just don't think haaland will necessarily be a smashing hit, hell for all we know he might end up unbalancing them for all we know.

i remember people saying Pep won't go for him as he doesn't suit City's style - or something to that effect

lets hope that's correct and he doesn't fit

edit: wrong thread!

Why would you be worried that City will sign him? City just signed Haaland.

Extremely important that we sign him and Antony.
If they're both actually good enough otherwise it's extremely important not to sign them. Antony I have some faith in as posters I rate seem to think he'd class. On Nunez the talk and stats of his lack of involvement in the buildup scared as we keep digging ourselves into a non possession based hole we can't climb out of.

I think it's something that can be adapted for, you just have to ensure his other qualities are good enough. By all accounts he's a very hard worker off the ball and defensively, which is good for any pressing system. He is young and has good pace and power and clearly has an eye for goal. Ideally, we would bring in a RVP/Lewandowski/Benzema/Kane... But there aren't any of them anywhere close to the required level around. City are signing Haaland, and Darwin is pretty much the same style of player, as is Lukaku. Lukaku has problems with mentality more than anything, and that's what always stopped him from doing what Haaland has done already. Darwin looks good in big games and doesn't seem lazy at all, but he could be an excellent #9 for us in the same vein. We just need the supporting cast and build up to be set.

Put it this way, if City were signing Darwin, I think he'd smash it because he'd have the work rate and the movement/finishing to be perfect. Haaland is just the peak version of what you hope Darwin turns into. City have their system and build up all set. We have no idea, though the hope is Ten Hag can sort that out. If he does, then someone like Darwin might suit him really well. Sancho for example had a great partnership with Haaland, so might strike the same relationship with Darwin. Bruno would have someone making those runs in behind that he loves, Etc etc. Antony seems perfect to balance that front 4, and you have a group of players with a good blend of creators, shooters, pace, power, work rate, ability.

Get him signed
He's a trojan doesn't stop grafting and he just has that dynamism too him.
His attitude will be infectious.

Reminds me of van nistelrooy with bags more pace
Don’t want. He’ll be caught out by some cart horse defenders

We'll sign him now because the suits in our boardroom will be envious of City getting Haaland and will want to get their hands on the next best thing on the market. I just don't think he's the type of striker ETH needs though, Scamacca would be more suitable.

Van Nistelrooy was proper quick. People are remembering him towards the end of his time here but when he first came he was a monster. In the top tier of strikers the PL has ever seen.

If he joins I'd feel sorry for him if that fee is correct, he'll constantly be compared to Haarland, even though he'll cost considerably less as our agent fees will be vastly smaller, fans and the media will expect the same output.

Based on the talk, it feels odd that ETH would have demanded we sign him. Seems counter productive to implementing possesion football

Of all the players we've spent big on, how many have worked out ? Not confident at all about a signing like this
So far, except Bruno, probably none?

Pogba 89m - failed
Maguire 80m - failed
Lukaku 80m - failed
Di Maria 68m - failed
Sancho 75m - flop in his first season, jury still out
Bruno 56m - big success in first 2 seasons
AWB 50m - failed

What's the opinion here between Nkunku and Nunez - I understand they are not exactly the same type of player but let's compare them as forward talents.

Say if we get Nunez and Pool get Nkuknu - who would have had a better signing? Or are they too different to compare at all?

All except Bruno were 'big name' signings. Hopefully, Nunes falls in the same category as Bruno.

If you want to go way back , rudd broke our transfer record then (20 mill I think) and he was a success.
Same wth rio and Keane.

There's really no reason to think - based on what I'm reading about how Nunez plays, as I haven't seen him - that he would be counter productive to implementing possession football. If anything, in theory he could enhance our ability to do so.
