The mental gymnastics Newcastle fans are performing to a) not mention the atrocities their owners are committing against their fellow humans and b) pretend the huge investment is not the driving force behind their good form is proof that many fans put football first ahead of basic human decency.
It is simply depressing.

Why would it attract criticism?
Making a team play in white and green is - like - the most harmless thing the Saudi Arabian regime have ever done.
It's buried in the middle of the text.

"New away kit bears striking resemblance to Saudi national-team jersey "

Jesus, the club has truly sold its soul, and the fans just let it happen again.

This is why I'm so against take overs. Its not your club anymore.

The owners can decide to name the club Saudi United FC and their is nothing the fans can do about it.

If anyone even attempted that in Portugal or other countries who don't allow these take overs they would be crucified and rightfully so.

This is sportswashing taken to a new level. I hope they don’t end up making Abu Dhabi’s 9-club football franchise look reasonable.

White and green is nice but they could've waited a couple of seasons before doing this. Tone deaf.

They should have the murdered journalist’s bloodied head as a new club badge. Sky and the press will start praising them soon enough

If Chelsea had deserved what they got, then Newcastle and Man City do, as well. The American owners of different clubs aren't angels, but at least they are in this only for the money.

How does it matter? They're anyway owned by the Saudis. Changing an away kit means nothing after that.

I'm sorry but isn't PIF owned/controlled by the Crown Prince of SA? Why the feck would it be separate from the State. The mental gymnastics is hilarious. It's all about how things appear. You've accepted the SA state money, simple as that.

Probably the first club that paid Amazon for the doc instead of getting money.
That's genuinely possible. I don't understand how this show could be interesting. There's a reason most stories have the rich assholes as the villains and not the heroes.

Went to watch our pre season tour in America as it coincided with a business trip, some decent games, but the one thing I took away from it was just how good Lewis Miley is. He's 17 and if you didn't know it you'd think he was the most experienced midfielder on the pitch in all of his appearances. Wouldn't be surprised if he was pushing for a place in the starting 11 as the season goes in, if he keeps his head.

Some Brighton fans on their forum comparing him to Bellingham last night. His ceiling is huge.

He looked brilliant against us. Outshone Tonali and Joelinton. If it wasn’t for Almiron playing in front of his former fans. I think the commentators would have mentioned him more. He definitely stood out to me the most from your team.

Are they not in really weird position now with all this new Saudi league stuff? Can't work out where it leaves them.

The difference between the american owners and the gulf countries ownership is significant. I would prefer a British owner for Arsenal but I can stomach an american one. Beyond the individual american owner there is no real plan to gain influence. These gulf state owners are not just taking ownership of the club, they are creating an enclave within the region and buying up future influence over the area, it is about real estate, about culture and even education. Like someone before said it is not only strictly about money. They are also from countries we have no idea whether or not we will be allies with in 10 years time. It is a bad idea all round.

I really hope Man Utd does not go this route. It's enough.

When managers only communicated through newspapers the negative headline with the quote from the manager would be put on the door in the locker room. That clip is the exact same but 50 years later and without a newspaper...

Was there not a story connected to the LIV golf takeover which basically confirmed the owners were part of the Saudi government.

But I wasn't interested enough to read the article fully so it might be false.

Seems a bit of a strange one. Massive fee for a back-up to Trippier, fresh off an ACL recovery?

Weren't they pleading poverty a month or two ago?

The club see him as a long term heir to Trippier, so it's a long term investment at probably the lowest price he'll ever be if he gets his pre-injury form back.

I'd imagine he'll get his fair share of football, Trippier was outstanding last season, but he's almost 33 and you'd imagine he'll not be able to bomb up and down the touchline as easily with all the additional games this season. It'll catch up to him at some point.
