Because it's being immersed in the atmosphere and truly feeling part of a team.

Take the class of 92. Yes, those were talented kids, but being amongst the senior players and being a part of the general team chemistry had a massive contributing factor to their development.

Football is as much about psychology as it is about kicking a ball. Gary Neville said it himself that he learned just by watching players like Pallister and Hughes, etc.
If it were that simple you could stick any youngster in the corner of the City dressing room & they’d become a world beater.

He plays sparingly & has only been there since January, he’s just as likely to feel on the fringes as he is immersed.

Time to move on from the class of 92 rhetoric, it isn’t happening again & is irrelevant in the Diallo situation where he was bought in.

Oh. I said that it was a contributing factor, not the contributing factor. If you asked any of the class of 92, they'd all tell you that they learned from their elders. If you asked Phil Phoden or Mason Mount they would say that they learned from the seniors at their clubs

I would describe the Old Trafford dressing room as I would a cross between civil war and lord of the flies. No way is anyone learning positive habits from that shit show

Yep. But the metaphor is still a valid one. Would a kid grow and develop more in a positive environment or a toxic one? Don't have to answer. It's rhetorical.

I just hope ETH can cure the dressing room and bring the players together. It won't be easy

Still better than 4. :p

My points stands, it's good that we was away from the shit show for half a season.
Yeah well that’s true I suppose, but laughable that that’s the only good reason!

Yeah. Tell me about it.

It seems like when SAF left, the players started running the club. Talk about the lunatics running the asylum.

On the upside, it can't get any worse.... *knocks on wood*

Going to disagree pal. It's hardly shooting ourselves in the foot. Amad will be a great player and as a Rangers fan I'd rather we developed our own youth players like Lowry and McCann than develop other clubs youth players. We are in European final so we've definitely not shot ourselves in the foot.

Fair enough, you should definitely prioritise your own players and the small amount i've seen of Lowry he looks class but he plays in a completely different position no? I think it's safe to say that you were starting inferior players over DIallo and it may have cost you having him an extra season where he could really kick on. Overall though, you've still had a great season and I'll be rooting for you in the Europa, I just hope Diallo gets some meaningful minutes.

He went by the name of Wayne Rooney

Don't sign other club's youth players on loan and play around with their careers in such a case.

He could have been away from the shit show and also playing regularly elsewhere. There are positives to the loan, but he has been used too sparingly - it's certainly not been a 'success'.

If he comes back with two winner's medals I think he, and Manchester United and Rangers will consider it an unequivocal success

It's nuanced. Look at Billy Gilmour. He's playing 27 matches this season. He's part of a relegated team The Norwich fans dislike him. They cite it as a wasted loan.

Personally, i think it's been a brilliant season for Billy Gilmour. Not just the matches he now has under his belt, but also the abuse that he's had to endure from the Norwich fans. It'll toughen him up.

With Amad, yes, he could have played more, but GvB has played in England and in Scotland. Maybe he thought if he trusted Amad in too soon, it would be detrimental to him.

Amad is in a team that's working for one another. They'd run through walls for the manager and they could win the second biggest European Club Trophy. The loan has been more of a success than a failure.

I think Amad is a very interesting player for next season. I haven't really watched any games of him at Rangers but I've watched the highlights and read the Rangers forum and it seems like he had done well when he has played.

I think Rangers have underused him if anything. Amad is at the stage now where he is clearly way too good for the under 23s but needs to get game time.

The positives for him is that he has a chance to impress a new manager in preseason plus RW is still a massive problem area for us. With Cavani, Martial and Greenwood all unlikely to be at United next season, our options in the forward three positions are limited. He has a great opportunity to play 20 plus games for us next season if he can kick on.

Eh? It’s not their obligation to develop United’s youth — for Rangers a loan is simply a means to an end. It’s United’s responsibility to choose the loan that would be the most beneficial for their player.

Amad has been a peripheral figure, and Van Bronckhorst (rightly) wasn't thinking about his development at all. Most teams work hard and are 'a team'. If Rangers lose both finals does that make it less of a success? What if he doesn't play a minute in either game? The two potential winner's medals are almost irrelevant.

He’s clearly become a man at Rangers. It’s been a good loan for him. He wasn’t ready for the physicality and we clearly did nothing to improve that at United.

Maybe another loan next season? Depends how his core strength develops in the summer. Unless 6 month loans are still an option a Harvey Barnes WBA type loan.

He looks talented player and has lot of attributes to be successful player, all he needs is a consistent game time. We have 0 right wingers in the team, most managers prefer inverted wingers. So he might get chance in preseason, you never know how things change quickly when it comes to playing time.

His close control and weight of passes is very good. Hopefully we will see him getting chances for first team.

His style is very similar to Antony, so I can see Ten Haag using him as an inverted right winger

The boy is as talented as anyone you would see. I just pray ten hag gets a grip of him and removes whatever is holding him back. To hell with your Antony’s and Raphinha’s if he gets going. No one is touching him if ten hag sorts out few things.

Just needs to be a little less laid back and more direct IMO. He still plays like a kid thats the best at school and nobody can touch him.

If we can drill some killer instinct into him, he will be a real weapon.

His performance against Celtic resulted in him getting less appearances imo.

It’s down to the player to get into the team and any criticism of the loan can be blamed on Amad and Rangers. It’s not just one way.

Completely agree. That’s what I was talking about. I have the same feeling about him. Too laid back and too casual. I see a lack of intensity and real drive in him on the pitch because of that he kind of drifts in and out of the game. I hope ETH is the just the manager he needs because the talent is out of the question, it’s the other ingredients he needs to put together to make him explode.

I think so. He's still very young and maybe needs to mature/adapt into mens football in that sense. From what we've seen in his last few Rangers appearances though it's a better sign.

A silly argument considering every Rangers player was absolutely useless in that game.

He has had more impressive and even really good games than bad ones.

Odsonne Edouard was the top striker in the SPL for a few seasons and has struggled at Palace.

Don't think we should be expecting much from Amad next season as the jump from SPL to Premier League is massive.

That doesn't mean he doesn't have a future here but he will probably need another loan before he's ready for the first team.

Amad already showed he could perform here when give the chance though.

Wolves, Leicester, Roma.....

He just wasn't given many chances is the real issue.

Yeah. He was bedded in last year. No doubt. But I still feel that there was a lack of harmony bubbling under the surface.

I actually think that's one reason players like Rashford and McTominay have regressed, lack of a role model at the club. Compare looking across the dressing room and sewing Cantona and Keane... now there's Maguire and Pogba...
Sometimes you have to take responsibility and be the role model. By the time Keane was McTominays age he was a real leader and role model on the team. He was a real leader on the Forest team as a teenager. Drive comes from within, too many excuses offered for under performing players.

Agree

Maybe its an old fashioned take but when a young player gets his first goal or his first few I want to see some raw emotion.

What I don’t like is a pre rehearsed cool as you like celebration.

Maybe reading a bit too much into it but it doesn't sit well with me about the players approach to the game.

I don't think the jump is that massive.

I mean, most of the players who have migrated from the SPL to the EPL in recent times have held their own: VVD, Robertson, Tierney, McArthur, Arfield, McGinn, etc.

Edouard has scored 17 in 14 matches for France U21, so there's definitely a player there. Plus, James McArthur is his club captain... he didn't really shine up here.

Plus Teemu Pukki has done well in the EPL. He was laughed out of Scotland. So it really all depends.

Do you remember Roy Keane was a teenager? I wouldn't say that he was a leader. Obviously, he had it in him, but he had players like Des Walker and Stuart Pearce around him. Plus, I'm not even going to mention the influence of Brian Clough.

I agree. You have to have it in you, but on the counter argument, you also have to have guidance.

Keane has said that he helped be a role model, by leading by example.

Rashford and McTominay, etc, never really had that. I'm not using it as an excuse.

I’ve read his celebration is supposed to be a tribute to one of his former Atalanta youth teammates and close friends who passed away a few weeks before he scored his first United goal against AC Milan.

Yep. He is clearly an intelligent and extremely skilful footballer. I’m hoping that ten Hag can up his intensity- could be such an exciting player for us with all the talent he has. Here’s hoping…

Also helps that Keane was about 20 times the player Mctominay can even dream to be. Hard to lead and be a role model when everyone can see you're not good enough.

The point was that McTominay (and the other kids) had generally no leaders in the dressing room to learn from.

What is a leader as per you? I've never considered Ronaldo to be a proper captain but he's someone any one would look up to. Matic and Mata are footballers to be admired as is Varane.

Someone who leads by example. Someone who you would trust following into battle: Robson, Keane, Schmeichel, Pallister, Bruce, Ince, Cantona, etc.

I have a love/hate relationship with Ronaldo. Obviously he's a role model in the way that he trains and looks after his body, but the way that he sulks and moans whenever he's subbed off. It rubs me the wrong way.

I'm no way using this as excuse to why Rashford and McTominay have regressed, but it legit is an issue. We used to have a dressing room full of leaders and players you could trust... but now? It's lacking.
