The way Harry’s been playing, I’d take De Ligt’s dad at the moment.

Like a release clause? First I've heard of it.

Wouldn't mind our spiral on the team consisting of De Ligt, De Jong and Van de Beek if Ten Hag can get them back to their best!
It was mentioned when his transfer went through, although if I remember correctly it was something quite silly like 100m+ euros

If I remember correctly it was reported at the time that his release clause gets lower every year.

Deepthroating information to Howard Nurse.

Which would make sense. I’m not buying a 100m release clause when he has 2 years on his contract. The whole purpose of it will have been to either force juve to pay him more to extend and remove or that a buying club will pay higher wages/agent fees due to the fee being low. 100m release clause when he only has 2 years on his deal makes zero sense as it wouldn’t give Raiola/De Ligt any leverage.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said: “But in particular, because Matthijs de Ligt has a release clause into his contract with Juventus. This clause is valid from next summer, so 2022, it’s a clause valid for 150millon euros.

Even if he didn’t have a release clause, Juventus would sell him to us for 150m. Insane fee, no chance that happens.

2 years left in his contract, Juve would still sell him for anything above 100m euro without a release contract. The release contract is pointless if it's 100m euro or more.

Hopefully things will progress well under ETH and we make CL next season. Then playes like de ligt and de jong could be a realistic possibility. Need to get the house in order first.

He's pretty obviously not worth anything near those prices to us relative to the CBs on the market for 60m and below.

I'm amazed at how much hype De Ligt still keeps getting. He's a starter for a poor Juventus and while his overall game is decent, he's often culpable for the goals they concede.

He's Maguire with a bit more ability on the ball, that's it.

For 25-30 million euros that'd be a good for bang for buck signing.
Cool, let’s pair him with Torres (Spanish Lindelof) and keep Harry and Victor as back ups. What could go wrong :wenger:

if he has two years left and isn't signing a new deal they'll want to shift him this summer

Wasn't there talk when he signed for Juventus of there being a 150m Euro clause in his contract?

Exactly my thoughts with a few signings and outgoings what’s left can be moulded into a more ruthless, hardworking and effective unit. I’d fancy us to get top 4 with even 1 or 2 out of 4 signings really hitting the ground and the players actually putting in a genuine shift for each other. Then we can go back to looking for 80 million pound players if we like but I hope we don’t. We’ve let Haaland and Mbappe go so I think we should wait and consolidate and slowly build until the next sensations emerge.

Yup, I think the general thought process was that he'd hit the ground running and become the best defender in the world within a year then move to Barca with FDJ (probably like Haaland is doing now) - that really did turn to shit, the length f his current deal along with the pandemic I really don't see him going for more than Juve initially signed him for.

There must be better options out there surely? Well depending on how much this release clause is I guess.. Has he actually been any good at Juventus? I saw him play once or twice, did not stand out to be honest.

He has not been great to be honest. I am not saying he is bad by any means but he has not been able to stand out and Serie A is currently quite weak compared to what it once was. If he was available for a modest fee then of course we should be all over it but Juve won't want to take a loss and with Chiellini leaving there is no chance they sell him for less than they paid and he just is not worth it at this point with better players being available for smaller fees.

Aging like a carton of milk. He was better at Ajax. Though I suppose the same is true for all the lads from that 2018 (or was it 2019?) CL team.

De Gea for De Ligt straight swap.
Juve doesn’t have a good keeper.

Then sell Hendo to some club.

Get Robert Sanchez with those funds, and Johnstone on the free.

We get a commanding keeper and a CB that ETH knows well without breaking the bank.
And they'd still be in the same situation if they ended up with De Gea.

I'm sure Juve will be totally willing to trade a £75m asset who's not even in his prime for an ageing keeper who's terrified of stepping off his line and can't pass a ball to save his life.

At 23, he is the best CB prospect in top football by a looong mile, yet he is still clumsy and not very poised. That said, he will enter his prime as a defender five years down the line and will make wide usage of the lessons learnt (yes… like an academic degree) while playing in a transitional Juventus period, together with late Buffon, Bonucci and Chiellini.

Dutch Maguire.
He does have the same kind of weaknesses as Maguire in that he can look clumsy and that he isnt rapid. However those weaknesses arent to the extent of Harry Maguire levels of clumsiness and Maguire his total lack of any form of acceleration and ability to turn.

Give him time.
We can make any previously quality players look poor.
