Not sure how the paycut will help Barcelona. We are talking about shaving off a few million versus gaining 70mil + his whole wages off the books.

Surely if it was as easy as that they would have asked him already

I wrote a post the other day about this, but basically we can’t get top midfielders in. With the exception of Pogba (completely different type of player), we always seem to miss out on top midfielders that can dictate play eg Thiago, Kroos etc
Ya that's true. I was considering sancho an exception to young top rated talent but on midfielders yes, it's incredible how many times we've got this wrong and the money we've spent

In the Athletic they reported that FDJ earns 11m euros net annually, and in Spain the top tax rate is 47%, so his gross salary would be around 16m euros, and that is 310k euros weekly, which is around 260k pounds weekly, that would not be the top bracket of the wage structure at United, since we have DDG & CR7 earn 375k pounds or more weekly.

Wages will not be an issue since the likes of Pogba and Cavani are leaving, among others.
FDJ does not have a salary of 11M net. When he signed for Barcelona he was about 7M net approximately and in the pandemic he signed a renewal lowering his salary.

The times I read an article from The Athletic was disinformation, it has no credibility. Another pamphlet.

Ten Hag doesn’t use number 8s. He uses two 6s in a 4231. FDJ would be one of those with more license to move up the pitch then his midfield partner.
Gravenberch was an advanced midfielder this season and not a holding one. 4-2-3-1 as the starting lineup is meaningless.
Ajax have actually lined up in a 3-1-5-1 in possession for most of the season.
ETH is also flexible with formations. He doesn't have a set way of playing, never mind one that doesn't include the use of 8s.

Don't like Romero's updated message. Went from being quite confident to thinking it's probably unlikely.

Do you know credible sources from Spain that confirms how much he earns now?

Move on then. We need players who want to be here.
Generally I would agree with this sentiment, but I think this specific case is a bit different.
Barca are clearly going to push him out, so we may as well be the ones to scoop him up as he would be transformative in the centre of the park for us. Seems unlikely that he wouldn’t perform for ETH given there prior relationship. I think if we get him we can guarantee him CL football next year. One year can’t be that much of a miss surely?

These threads are always fun to watch people going into meltdowns over absolutely nothing

All Romero has said if the player wants to stay he'll have to take a pay cut. How many people do we know that take pay cuts to stay in their jobs? This is a Barca based journalist so obviously he's gonna spin it as the player wanting to stay. But if he actually wanted that there wouldn't need to all this hue and cry, he would have done it already.

Move on. Spamming him with phone calls everyday is not the way to go. We do not want players who doesnt want to come.

This isn't entirely true. There are reports that Frenkie has a clause in his contract which sees him getting a pay increase after 4 years. Which means their wage structure is under threat again. For him to stay, he has to not take that wage increase and some are reporting as a pay cut.

Why is missing out on one Champions League season such a big deal?

Romano with the most pointless tweet of the year award:

Just repeating what others have reported and somewhat covering all the bases once again.

Starting to dislike Romano, think he knows feck all tbh

Frankie is obviously desperate to stay and Barca I believe are calling his bluff by saying he’ll have to take a pay cut.

To keep FDJ they would need to not only cut his wages to almost nothing they would also have to sell other players of a similar value…

Memphis
Umtiti
Dembele (free but wages)
Braithwait
Ter Stegen?

Im not sure who the fringe players are and who they want out but clearing those wages frees a lot up but they want to bring in Lewandowski (v high wages and significant fee 30m) Raphina (wages and fee 50m if they stay up, 25/30m if they go down) Carlos Soler also linked.

Those all coming in balanced against the outgoings leaves a significant bridge to cross in order to match up the books.

Feels like a Di Maria situation all over again tbh.

I get that ETH wants him, but if he really is this reluctant to leave we will just end up with another lovesick puppy that will be upset the moment something doesn't go his way.

Feck that, lets get somebody who will actually fight for the club. Good player but let him rot in Barcelona on the bench if that's his wish.

Apparently ETH is calling FDJ every single day without fail and just saying “Big day today” and it’s really starting to piss Frenkie off.

Because he can get the same money, a more stable club and champions league football elsewhere so why not? CL is the top table. The EL is probably a bit embarrassing/underwhelming if you’re one of the most recognisable players in the world.
Barcelona literally just played in the Europa league this year and got knocked out by Frankfurt

Why are you so sure it's just one season? We may feel hope and expectation, but recent history suggests we are not a regular in the CL.

Yeah, not seeing this. Aside from the fact that most of the people reporting on this seem to be full of sh*t and regurgitating the same things every day, if he doesn't want to leave Barca, what's the point?

Fab is always “full of sh*t” when he reports negative news. It’s always “full of sh*t” until he reports something positive. Funny that.

Em, they're all full of shit. Anyone who knows doesn't tell because they'd lose their sources for actual journalism.
This is true. Football gossip reporter has to be the easiest job in the world. Even easier than Tory MP.
Just add United and you've got a story.
