Great player, passing even better than Timber. Great reading of the game, super agile, good on the ball but he is slower and shorter.

could he be used as a DM or strictly CB? Mascherano was the same size.

I have been wanting him for ages. Im more for this than timber personally.
This gives us a Left footed CB and a player that can play at CDM & LB too.

its 3 weaknesses in one even if its just cover, it improves the squad.

@AjaxCunian

mate, rate in order of opinion - De Ligt, Martinez, Schurrs, timber, Botman

Can we all just remember that no one knows who we are going to sign this summer.

If people were already in uproar over Timber's height, I wonder how they'll feel about his even shorter partner

Almost like journalists read the cafe and decide to make their stories from there.

This would be probably the best transfer United could possibly do in defense...

Jfc imagine we lose Martinez and Timber. We still have CL to play Erik. Martinez is GREAT btw.

Oh please stop it :(
I don't mind United getting an Ajax player, but not all of them

What's the count on Ajax players we've been linked with now? They haven't got a clue.

This just tells me that the British journalists have absolutely no idea who we are targeting which can only be a good thing. Seems the leaks to the press have dried up so now they’re just taking punts and linking us to random Ajax players because of ETH

Can we buy Martinez, Timber and Lamptey this summer. Who's a shortie that can play LB?

He is, very similar in qualities. Blind is a better passer between the lines, a bit taller and a better reader.

Martinez is much quicker, better dribbler, more agile and might have a better long pass than Blind even (Blind's long passing is great, think of van Persie).

I think centre back heights are a bit redundant these days. The days of the hulking six foot plus striker are somewhat unfashionable now.

As long as his leap is good, it’s all fine to be honest.

Depends a lot on the play style but personally

Timber, Martinez, De Ligt, Botman, Schuurs.

For well travelled Mancunian/Match going fans. Would you rather live in Amsterdam or Manchester? I’ve enjoyed both cities a lot but I would say Amsterdam is a better city on my limited knowledge of the two.
Amsterdam is a more interesting and historic city I think and a 'nicer' place to live. Culturally richer too.

Manchester is a bit bigger, dirtier but has a real energy and a very strong passion for football. And has some very nice places to live around its outskirts.

You do realize that Amsterdam is both bigger and has more population than Manchester right?

Amsterdam for the city. Manchester for the football experience.

I don't think so if you count their full conurbations.

The local authority District of Manchester is only about half a million, but that's only an artificial designation. The actual city is 1-1.5 million depending on where you see the boundaries. The full Greater Manchester area is almost 3 million.

it's obviously

De Ligt
Martinez
Timber
Botman
Schuurs

in terms of the level they've shown so far

and probably

De Ligt
Timber
Martinez
Botman
Schuurs

in terms of talent, although Martinez, given the right system, definitely isn't ruled out from reaching similar heights to Timber.

People talk about Timber's consistency this season, but Martinez didn't put a single foot wrong. He does also have 3 years on him though

His leap is good. My impression would be that he's better in the air than Timber in fact. But 1.75m really is very very short for a centreback

No way is Martinez' long pass better than Blind's.

Martinez has a nice pass in him, but usually only when given the time and space.
Blind as centreback plays them far more regularly and under more pressure

Thanks @AjaxCunian YouTube only shows some of the gifts of a footballer. Really think we have missed a player like Blind. As you say, he could break the lines with his passing.

If Bailly and Jones are leaving, then getting both Timber and Martinez wouldn’t be a bad idea. Both can play full backs too.

Ah who am I kidding, Phil Jones is going to be registered in our squad, taking up space until the end of the universe happens.

then you also have to look at the Greater Amsterdam area, twice as big, but less population

I think the square km of a city is not really how most people measure them... But let's split the difference and say they are of similar size.
