If conversation is continuing then its good sign. I believe he might be looking at assurance that if we fail to qualify again next season then he will be allowed to leave.

These players worrying about Champs League. Your literally playing in the best league in the word.

Stay in Spain where the highlight of the season is competing in the Champs league which Barca are good to meet us in the Europa by February anyway.

He definitely is not. He actually needs someone like that next to him. Frenkies (longe range) passing is mediocre. He does not distribute the ball like Scholes, Pirlo or Xavi for example. Thats also the setup with Ajax, where he had Schone next to him. Schone was the deep lying playmaker distributing the game with his great passing skills. Frenkie was creating the space with his ball handling/dribbles.
tbf They are 3 of the best midfielders of all time, hardly anyone distributes like them, we have certainly never had another player like Scholes in my lifetime at United, only Beckhams passing range came close. It would be good for us to get a Carrick style player that can dictate tempo as Mcfred seem to have no idea of that

I still think McT can do a good job (like that of Fletcher and Butt) if he has great players next to him. Pogba is no Roy Keane or Paul Scholes, or even Paul Ince for that matter

McT is very average. His distribution of the ball and his positioning is crap. You can't really polish a turd

It's rather them saying, "I don't wanna play for a club that can't even qualify for the CL, let alone play for titles."
It’s Manchester United not Leicester City. Unfortunately we don’t play in crap leagues where you can have a really poor season and still finish second.:wenger:

I can't remember why I joined this war.

That's all well and good, but maybe he simply doesn't fancy joining the team that is in for a lengthy rebuild, again, and wants to join a more settled team, especially if he joins us from a team is in a fairly similar situation. I'm not even saying he is right, but it's all but certain that we actually get back to fighting for titles any time soon, even if we got FDJ, it will take more than 1 player to make this team a title contender again.

Lengthy rebuilds are for poorly run clubs like Arsenal. Thankfully and hopefully we have removed that element (Woodward, Judge, Ole, some of our scouts).

So again let’s hope these conversations with ETH are positive. Challenging for a league within 2-3 transfer windows should be an easy sell for a club like United don’t you think?

ffs:lol:

you an itk?
Just my opinion. I think he might be looking for an assurance because i would if i was in his position. FDJ is massive Barcelona fan and to leave for United at this moment is a risky move. So yeah just used some common sense. Not sure what made you think i was ITK  maybe its the choice of word used

Maybe the last couple of years have made me too skeptical, but I think there are a few factors that actually speak against a quick rebuild.

1. The prices in the transfer market. We can't go out and buy half a team in one transfer window anymore with teams like West Ham wanting 100M+ for their best players, they are totally within their rights to evaluate their players this way, but it makes buying half a team for top teams way more difficult, which we need to be aware of.

2. ETH isn't the guaranteed success a lot of people are making him out to be. I'm firmly on board with those saying that ETH currently is our best option, our best chance of getting back to success but is he guaranteed to succeed, I don't think he is, he'll have a fight on his hand, apart from adapting to managing in another league he will have to form a unit out of the players we still have and build a structure that can help us improve players again, if you ask me that's a monumental task with the way the team looks right now, and will probably require not only sorting out half of your player personal but also modernizing our training staff and methods over the next years. It also probably isn't only the training staff that needs overhauling, but also the scouting team and probably large portions of the rest of the staff, no department should be exempt from scrutiny.

3. Our owners and board haven't changed. If my work experience has taught me anything, it's that corporations who are dysfunctional usually are this way because the top level is doing something really wrong, may it be setting the wrong tone for the corporate culture, not delegating enough, being too controlling or due to gut feeling just overwriting decision way more knowledgeable people have made for good reason.

So yeah, I think this rebuild is going to be a monumental task and can only succeed if Murtough and ETH are on the same page on how to bring success back to our club and if the board stays out of it completely.

If he was staying why would you discuss his future in a meeting? Sounds like BS, the only reason the manager meets with a player about their future is to indicate he’s not in his plans, the only other spin could be to indicate to him he needs to improve performances but that has already been reported.

You’ll soon be able to have a really crap season, finish fifth in the PL and be able to qualify for the champions league.

Probably wants to know why he was so quiet at the squad dinner.
Apparently he ordered well done steak in preparation for his United move.

He was only quiet because it took him so long to chew through it.

Nice to see him making efforts to fit in though.

ETH: "Hey Frenkie, how are you doing? Look we've got a big plan here, as you see we are going to start something very exciting here, something really big....so what do you say, do you want to hear more about our project?"

FDJ: "No"

ETH: "Hey Frenkie, how's going? Well I've heard about it the other day and I know what you are thinking....champions league football eh? But look, you've got to listen to this, its really big and I am not kidding here, I am going to tell you now and you are going to love it..."

FDJ: "No"

ETH: "Hi Fren..."

FDJ: <hangs up the phone>

The 3 conversations thing is definitely fake. Only a Dutch source really close to ETH or De Jong could know that. It's coming from a Spanish source.

De Jong has been frustrated in he's being misused. He's said so in so many words. He's a deep lying playmaker being forced to play like Donny.
It could be to discuss his role/position going forward after the transfer window.

Or he's going to be told to piss off.
